Cynefin - Lliw'r Ceiroes
A very old Welsh folk tune taken from a manuscript called ‘Melus Seiniau’ by the renowned song collector Ifor Ceri (also known as John Jenkins). Jenkins collected tunes and melodies from across Wales during the first half of the 19th century, including many from Ceredigion. Lliw’r Ceiroes (Colour of Cherries) is noted as originally being sung by Evan Thomas from Llanarth. Here it is performed live probably for the first time in many centuries.

@@joaogabrielaguiar3761 that'd be amazing if you want to tab it. I'll happily make a video explaining. Ideally it would be good to make a proper tutorial video - do you have any video skills?
@@cynefinmusic I do, in fact! I'd be thrilled to help you! If you want, I can send you my email and we can work something out. As an ethnomusicologist it's amazing to see projects such as yours -- cultural preservation at its finest. I've been listening to your recordings since 2018, if I recall correctly, and it sparked my interest in the Welsh language, although I'm far from a decent speaker.

What's the tuning for this gorgeous arrangement? I want to try and learn it!
Hi Bip, it's in CGCFGC (DADGAD down a tone) with capo on the 5th fret.
@@cynefinmusic Ahhh, I was close, but didn't figure out that 2nd B down to A. Don't use open tunings much. Diolch yn fawr iawn
The chant from Eira Ddoe (4:47-5:30) is also known in Czech ecclesiastical music. It should come from Czech evangelic or Czech Brethren tradition. Does anyone know its history please? How did it come to Britain/Wales (or whether it has older origins elsewhere)?
