SC1000 MK2 Video Manual - Tutorial
This is a video manual for the SC1000 MK2 Scratch DJ Turntable by PortablismGear. It covers firmware updates and basic use as well as file formats and folder structure.
Firmware Info: rasteri.com/wiki/SC1000_Firmware_Update
GitHub: github.com/rasteri/SC1000
Store Page: portablismgear.com/sc1000.html
A couple notes and corrections.
When setting a cue point:
Shift + Cue will clear whatever is on the cue point, pressing it again will set the cue point. So at any time you can press Shift + Cue and it will clear that slot, line up your cue point with the platter and press the Cue button to set and save.
Powering with a battery:
The site says that the SC1000 mk2 requires 5 volts and 2 amps. Technically it will play with this power spec, however the platter will sometimes skip. I've been using a power source that is 5 volts and 3 amp with fantastic results. Some fast charging portable batteries do have 3 amp USB-A ports. Most older portable batteries DO NOT WORK with the SC1000 MK2 even though they claim to have 5volts and 2amp.

Twin Twelve 1484 Silvertone "worlds worst amp reverb" made AWESOME. Sleeper drone amp!
zhlédnutí 740Před 2 lety
This amp is said to have the worst reverb ever put into an amp... and it's kinda true. But it also does this! I'm ONLY using the internal Reverb and Tremelo, no pedals or post FX. Les Paul going straight into the 1484 Volume knob turned to zero Reverb turns all the way up. if you set the Les Paul to neck pickups and roll the tone all the way down, you get amazing drone! you still hear my string...

UPDATE: There is now a full recall due to a potential short in the power handle. If you bought one, you can follow this link for a full return and refund: bp1-support.elektron.se/ Got the BP-1 today. Pretty disappointed in it over all. Thought others may want an overview and review. No, it's not a great video, and yet it's still more effort than what went into this "Power Handle".

I just got my second hand sc500, I think what is happening is that you need to clear the sample cue point before setting a new one, and I was able to set a new cue point on an empty cue button slot by just pressing the cue button, not shift + cue. I think.
thank you
Then Jimmy Pop comes in with...
Very good and straight video😊 Thank you!
Thanks for the public tutorial. You left out a couple things from the unlisted official tutorial though. Namely the sample/beat pitch shifting function and the internal record function. Would be great if you did another more advanced tutorial covering those, and other hidden/hard to find, functions!
Thanks for the vid. I just got mine after watching for SO long! This unit is freakin DOPE!! Does your fader cap come off? I want to replace it with another, but I don't want to break it. Mine seems like it's really stuck on there. LMK! Thanks.
my favorite pocket operator video.
I use the Mpc Live but Damn you got SP spittin fire!
Feeling this! Sick retro flip 🔥 Remixed some old Mario samples with New film + J.Cole a while back but really wanting to dig back into some old games and remix some nostalgic classics 🔥
All the gadgets there man, nice one! Gotta love the retro! Just reminded me, I’ve got get my PO’s back out, love creating in those things 👍🏻
I have got myself one of these in addition to get some scratching on the go with my Mpc beat productions. Been sat there for about a year. Needed to stumble across this, thanks man.
So there’s no ‘audio in’? Ahh shucks
Hum might be from the usb; I thought the worse case scenario was happening for my vsynth, forgot I had it plugged into the computer via usb
Thank you for putting this video together!
Dope video. I was able to order the sc1000mk2 SE. i haven’t found much info about actually using it. This really helps!
I had the MPC live 2 in my shopping cart ready to go and make the most devastating financial decision of my life, AND THIS POPS UP ON MY FEED. (I have a 404mk2 already) 🎉😂
Thank you so much for making this - it's helped a ton!!
🤯
is update only available for mk2? what about original 1000?
much appreciated. thanks for this
thank u thank u thank u
Which one do you prefer, the sc500 or sc1000?
I want one of these. I've wanted one of thee since I first heard about them last October. The portablism website has been "out of stock" for over six months now. Does anybody else make/sell these devices? Is there something else similar on the market that's actually for sale?
They are in stock right now! If you hurry.
@@iamkeebz Already "out of stock." I give up.
@@dinogoldie9716yeah, they sold out in about an hour. I recommend turning on their instagram notifications, that’s how I was able to get one after years of trying.
I’ve been trying to get one of these for over a year.
@@theagainagain I call "shenanigans" on this mythical item. Not sure why Portablism can't meet the demand for this device. Seems suss.
There are notes and corrections in the description. Please take a look.
Great tutorial. There's some things i didn't knew. Love the SC500 and SC1000.
Good vibes 🫡👍🏼
🔥🔥
it's completely f🌟cking incomprehensible
Never liked lofi sounds
Dope combo!
My iPad with Koala on it has been collecting dust since I got the MK2. I was watching the MPC stems video and I must admit I was a little jealous BUT with the Koala sampler integration "We are right there, baby!!!" Koala is actually an awesome super cheap program to team up with the MK2. Oh yeah, there are plenty free AI stem separaters on the net so it's really no big deal...
2:20 Just be mindful when buying the returned version that it’s not a Chinesium counterfeit clone. Especially with cables, people are vicious about buying expensive cables, returning cheap knockoffs, and then Amazon recycles them to future customers because their auditing system isn’t that sophisticated. Basically a minimum wagie just looks at it for obvious physical damage, and visually counterfeit clones can be hard to spot unless you look closely.
Dope work 🔥
That’s all cool but compared to other stem separations this actually sounds so bad 😅 I would take one minute more time and do in to the pc with ripX
you are the only person talking about this online right now man good job
This sounds like some Wu-Tang type beat 🔥
🙏
how can i have the stems separation for koala now?
you need to buy it to unlock it
@@TheChameleon2008 thx i had it but i gotta to load a sample to have the option
@@TheCircusp yea its a koala thing and not a sp thing. SP is just in controller mode when using koala so any sounds need to be moved over.
This is cool to know. When they get stem separation, they will be in the race. As far as the best SP model, the 404 mk2 is the best !!!!
A beastly combo!
damn! i did not know koala did stem separation...
can you seperate the stems after you record the loop? i guess not cause saving it goes to sample not a pattern right?
the stem separation is a koala thing not a sp thing
yo yo whats that app your using on your phone??? is it LK?? Been looking for an app like that for a while now
its called "koala sampler", I literally downloaded it like 5 minutes ago after seeing this vid. I had to pay 6 euros for it though
Koala Sampler
@@iamkeebz Thank youuuuu!
You been under a rock bro? Koala sampler the mobile sampling standard.
@@TheChameleon2008 guess I have been
I just bought the koala sampler and im gonna order a SP-404mk2 right the f*ck now too and im not even kidding because this is just f*cking insane!!! Been watching video's about the 404 for some time now but THIS video just convinced me fully, thank you sir for uploading this!!!!!!!!!!!
same boat here and i received it 5 days ago but the more i use it the less i use koala haha
@@TheChameleon2008hahahah that does make sense to me, you can sample straight out of anything basically so way just stick to one thing only right? Idk if you’ve ever used stems though but just that possibility along with the 404 is just so sick, have used it with DJ’ing before and it’s just mindblowing!! Nevertheless, I still mainly keep using samples from my Splice library + sampling from a synth 😅😂
@@yedawg7970 Word, but why pay for splice when you can sample directly from the browser :) Unless you making money from the music then its totally understandable.
I'm telling you... This changes everything
Hi, Koala is an important part of my creativity. I bought the SP404mkii in large part because of Koala. This integration is a dream come true, because my ONLY gripe with the app is the delete option that opens at the slightest miss step when holding the pad down, this updates clears that up ... If you don't use the work flow of Koala give it a try... It's very fluid and clean. Elf audio ain't nothing to F with.
I love to see people be genuinely stoked about their instruments! Loop was 🔥
Things are getting interesting now 🤔
its like an all you can eat sampling buffet. Ive always had the SP404 mk2 on the radar but this latest update might have me pulling the trigger.
You hipstets need to stay away from stem separation, its decades old failed tech from RX, Special Layers, Serato, and so on. It's not used because even with 100% cpu and added dedicated gpu on a $8000 super computer it stil destroys samples to lower grade than mp3, and low cpu standalone devices just spit out even worse "stems", you should not sample digitally below flac anyway, but you guys sample from CZcams and all sorts of bad practices. This is why sonically the music just never hits. No offence, but you need to stop promoting this foolishness.
OK congratulations to Roland, this new upgrade is great, but with all due respect it cannot compare to the mpc one... I have both, both great but they are specifically for different uses. The SP404 is really super fun and now with this update also very complete, but the mpc one is a recording studio, no kidding. Then Akai Stem separation is superior in quality to the Koala one
I just can't stand MPC greed to buy a standalone unit and next buy very tempting (I must say) plugins to use only inside the MPC. It's a *timbrewolf* move for me.
@@gepardek No of course, I agree, akai and the mpc one are not perfect (on the other hand it has to be said that the mpc one costs a third of instruments like the op1 field) and I too find it has flaws, but since the new sp404 update came out I hear a lot of people saying that now the sp404 is worth as much as the mpc one... I disagree, with the mpc one you can produce, mix and master an album (without taking anything away from sp404, whose workflow is amazing)
I’ve had MPC1000 and I think that its philosophy was somewhat closer to the current SP404 workflow. It was more than instrument then, a track starter. I always dreamed about DAW without computer, but finishing tracks is still much better in Ableton, less quirks less learning curve. Maybe integrating something like AI mix and AI master into those boxes will do for me, cause current MPCs are just iPads with screens and I must say worse iPads with screens. Maybe MPC + SP404 = next gen Octatrack with touch screen but it will be much pricey than Field, for shure.
