Wow empire of death is a great 5/4ths of a second parter Sutekh was magnificent and I think despite the short screen time I think his performance was wonderful, big w to Gabriel woolfe Integrating the rember tardis was such a neat thing despite the quality of tales of the tardis and the 6 coat is goated still My main issue comes down to this episode beginning with what I think should have started in the legend of Ruby Sunday to give the rest more time The reveal of Ruby Sundays mother was very sweet and I’m glad the trope of “don’t talk to this character it isn’t fair” didn’t come into play My theory for mrs flood is that she is romana III since the outfit imitation feels a lot like her Goated episode even if one of the weaker ones dilemma/10 That being said it is not my goat twin dilemma 10/10 baybee

Honestly I loved this video and it’s inspired me to rewatch this era with a more positive mindset than when it first aired, and I have to say I love your passion for the show and I think you represent the best of the fandom

Solid season, Ncuti is fantastic as 15. I can sense long term payoff in this storytelling, & it all felt compelling, albeit a tad messy. But what’s DW without messy eh! In all, very happy with this series & very rewatchable, not incredible, but good, & i know it will turn to great in time! 8/10 overall ❤

I think this episode was making the argument that in Doctor Who, when a time traveller encounters a branching point or decision where their lives could go in one of two different directions, they always play out both options. Think back to Jouney to the Centre of the TARDIS, where the TARDIS both crashes and doesn’t crash. Still no explanation for the Doctors disappearance, but I guess he could have simply been kidnapped by the far, or for Rubys time travelling (without the use of the TARDIS) at the end of the episode.

I really liked this series. Honestly my biggest disappointment was that the Beatles were underused in their episode (I'm a fan of them, especially Ringo, who only got one line, so uh... Still salty about that.) I know that licensing their music is quite costly but with the bigger budget I would have thought they could have, say, licensed part of Love Me Do and had that be the thing that banished Maestro. My other problems are more nitpicky. Why are they still space babies after six (IIRC?) years? Why not space children? They were voiced by children, and they acted more like children (for obvious reasons). Why does the leader of the white supremacist camp in Dot and Bubble have a surname beginning with C when that's one of the first letters of the alphabet, and they were already on P? Why is there suddenly a Ruby Road signpost, and didn't the Doctor say time changed so she was pointing? Why does Rogue not know what cosplay is and why do the Chulder know what cosplay is? Why was the cliffhanger in the finale where it was? I wish they'd had Earth wiped out and then started episode 2 with the kind woman and the spoon. This would also explain the Doctor and Ruby having the conversation in the memory TARDIS in the Tales from the TARDIS that aired between these two episodes. I also think that if the doctor cried a little less it would make the other times he cried much more impactful, especially in this episode, as you pointed out. And (this might be a musician's nitpicky example) the titles were out of sync again, like in Capaldi's era (Boom and Space Babies only, as far as I noticed). I hope this doesn't become a regular thing.

The show never really had an actual fixed canon, they made most of it up as they went along. Isn't the whole point of the show being called "Doctor Who" is because nobody knows who he really is or (especially now) where he actually comes from.

This season of Doctor Who has been incredible. I genuinely believe it stands up against Capaldi's Season 9. The intricate details Russell T Davies has woven in the show make for a great rewatch. For instance, in "The Devil's Chord," the twist song at the end has a melody that hints at a familiar, iconic laugh. This might be a red herring, but it suggests we might not be done with the Toy Maker yet. (And it's another 4th wall break) The finale is classic RTD, but I don't think Ruby is just an ordinary human. The mysterious snowing hasn't been fully explained (unless he just intends Suteckh to be the one causing it); while we can theorize, this plot point seems too significant to be left without as much of a line explaining it. It might tie into the Mrs. Flood storyline. Yes, the mystery of Ruby’s mother being a regular human woman was resolved, but I doubt RTD is dismissing the strange occurrences surrounding Ruby-that's still to be explored. Like in Church on Ruby Road the interviewer tells Ruby there is no trace of her mother, and she points to how odd that is. And also how the Doctors memories changed. There is something bigger at play. This is another "73 Yards" situation where fans demand immediate answers. It's clear RTD has mapped out the next two or even three seasons. When I first watched "Empire of Death," I was slightly disappointed, like many others. However, on re-watch the scene where Ruby meets her mother redeemed the episode. It's not without flaws-having Sutekh cling to the TARDIS for so long requires a lot of jumps in logic. But perhaps it can be explained by his lack of power and his need for the Doctor to travel to various planets to spread Susan Triad around the universe. The season ends with a significant fourth-wall break, which I believe will play an important role next season. The fourth wall might even become a character or a crucial part of the universe. Regardless of if you like this season or not you have to admit this season has been experimental and exactly what Doctor Who needed. I’m excited for Season 2 and more content from DWFan91, the #1 Doctor Who fan in the galaxy!

I know this may be controversial, but I feel this is arguably the worst finale I've seen in Doctor Who for years. All the finales from the rival onwards definitely beat this. Seeing how everything was explained kinda ruined the season for me.

The ending to this episode is what i feel missing form this series so far. A scene where Ncuti can express more as himself instead of The Doctor. Until now something hadn't quite been connecting. It makes me think back to the episode The End of Time and David Tennant (my GOAT) had to save Donna's Grandfather from that room where all the radiation went. The 'I could do so much more speech' was probably the most powerful i can remember. I didn't have high hopes gonig into this season. Im not someone who watches much tv so i was unfamiliar with Nucti. At first i thought the split generation was a bad idea since in those scenes after David Tennant really outshone Ncuti imo. Then in Star Beast makibf every 3 interactions about pronouns felt a bit too forced down the throat. Dint get me wrobg i fully understand thr message and it is important to understand and accept different ways people can identity (as a gay man myself) but i tilnl some angels went a bit over the top repetitive. As for space babies its reallt jist annoyed me how The Doctor kept saying space babies so much but still kept getting it wrong buy saying g just babies...which ti me is right in the fiest place? Like Ruby isnt talked about as Earth Baby... again it felt forced and made the message stand out for the wrobg reasons imo. If the episode order was changed i get that move. The Beatles episode after was so much better and the benchmark reference for this season imo.

You’ve been gifting us with bangers back to back, thanks! After rewatching Empire Of Death, I still feel disappointed. I feel a bit robbed of the ending that the series deserved, the show-down between Sutekh and The Doctor was ripped from us. Instead we got The Doctor taking a big old dog for a walk, just seemed everything in the episode was down to luck and convenience. I’m generally curious to why Sutekh died in the time vortex while he was chilling in there during Pyramids Of Mars and latched onto the tardis? I don’t like the fact that RTD has moved away from using Big Finish plot lines. It just creates more division. If The Doctor used Sutekh to bring life to everywhere he’s been, did he bring back Gallifrey and the Time Lords? Or was it only the people that Sutekh killed. Or was it down to the fact they’re in a pocket universe. Or something else. Why were the suns dying out? I don’t believe our lives are required for them. I’m pretty sure The Doctor hasn’t landed on one, I may be wrong. I know the tardis became one in Series 5, Sutekh must have been roasting. I feel that Sutekh was far more powerful in Pyramids Of Mars, it just feels like his powerful evolution was more of a nerf if anything, this version of him to me doesn’t live up to the idea he’s an all powerful being. If anything he felt like an insect in comparison to the Doctor and Ruby. The idea that Sutekh has been chilling on the tardis the whole time is quite problematic, and silly. Why did the tardis never mention that she’s been dragging a dog around for years? Was Captain Jack hugging Sutekh? Was The Doctor sitting on Sutekh while he was on the tardis mediating? I hate that I’m being so critically about this episode, but it’s really something that can’t be left unsaid. The whole idea that Ruby’s mother was just a normal person, was quite anticlimac
