For the curl flatness and less volume, I would suggest to use hair section clips & clip the hair up top where you want volume,while it dries. It helps to lift the curls up while drying instead on being flat while drying. Also flip your hair down and to sides while doing Scruch out the crunch ( breaking gel cast) . Combing after styling( ie when your hair is still wet) also helps to seperate thicker curl clumps and make it looks voluminous. Then do a little scruch to define the curls Product build up also makes the hair look flat and less voluminous. So Once in a while you can also try hair wash using clarifying shampoos
