brief reflections in liminality
"The til - the reservoir of all possible opportunities still available to you at this point in your life - all the countries you still have the energy to explore, the careers you still have the courage to pursue, the skills you still have time to develop, the relationships you still have the heart to make - like a pail of water you carry around in your head, which starts off feeling like an overwhelming burden but steadily draws down as you get older, splashing gallons over the side every time you take a step"

A sort of just...thought dump on everything I thought about after watching it that was shot in 1 take, and is completely unedited and unfiltered on any level (I'm also using pretty meh equipment, and I'm realizing that my chair was really squeaky, and I use way more filler words that usual. A huge thank you to my friend Heather for recommending Barakamon to me! This video has legitimately been sitting in my "to-do" queue for over a year, but I only recently felt compelled to get it done - I guess I was spending a bit too much time on play? The censors aren't great, but I didn't think they were a valid reason to hold the video up anymore. I will say though - my niece feeding the fa...

I’ve rewatched this video so many times because every single time I have my mind wandering somewhere else. Great video. I found your channel through your Kita Shinsuke video or your Daichi Sawamura one. I don’t know. I forgot. But that’s not the point. Your videos always seem to explore what I’m insecure about. This video is not an exception. I was adopted when I was a baby. I look very different to my family. I was never bullied as a kid, thankfully. That didn’t really stop some comments on my race. I remember a kid in Middle School who was also adopted said I was really lucky getting a good family so young. That stuck with me for a long time. I started having doubts about whether my talent was just chocked up to luck. I think I made peace with that struggle now. Also, as a little side note, I accidentally commented this on part three instead of part two because autoplay was on and I was too busy writing and worried that all of this would get deleted.
I personally think this is the best monologue and the best writing in the whole series
My favorite quote of the whole serie. Hoshiumi is one of the wisest character in the serie, each line of him are so inspiring. Also, next video is about Oikawa ??? We WILL be there 🎉
Welcome Backk Mate!! Eye opening as usual
One of the loveliest aspects of Haikyuu, and one that frequently appears in these videos, is this sustained ideal that “volleyball” goes beyond the ball and the volley. Haikyuu is a story about becoming good- as players, and by what Furudate seems to argue should be a natural extension, as people too. Hoshiumi’s decision to form his life around “getting better” brought him to higher and higher places, which is often depicted as a lonely road. Hoshiumi himself seems to believe this at first, assuming that he just has to defeat everyone like him to reach the top alone. Encountering Hinata, who’s living proof that he never had to be the only one of his kind, gifts Hoshiumi a level of connection and comradeship that make him not only a better player, but a better person. It’s one of the smoothest, least-campy odes to communal growth that I’ve experienced, and it speaks.
It still astounds me that the lessons presented are ones I've heard before or been told before, but they hit so much more deeply in the context of Haikyuu and its characters. The peak is often depicted as a lonely place, where only one person can stand - I never really thought about it quite like that. Terrific insight!
love these vids
Suga is one of my favs, he's in my heart <3 <3 <3
Thank you for bringing that video back. I saw it the first time you uploaded the video but couldn't rewatch and meditate about it as it was no more. Glad I can do now!
when you said someone is always watching and that someone is you I really felt it. Thank you for this video as it gave me so much peace I have been overthinking a lot these past few months and this video gave me a way forward so thanks for the video again
Glad you enjoyed it 😁

Your father sounds like a good man Amazing video Keep up the good work
i think it would be fascinating if you compare my two favorite Captains - Oikawa and Bokuto. i know that this is an old id, and you'll probably never read this, but i would find this comparison amazing. if you deep-dive into it, they both share any features, albeit having very different personality. and while Bokuto has a supportive team, and Akaashi on his side, Toru fights all by himself. with himself. he is my favorite, by far. :) thank you for this.
I read all my comments, it just takes me a bit 😉 that's a great idea, a video on the captains would be a fun one to make! At some point in the near future, I'm going to have another video on Oikawa, so you can look forward to that!
I love this anime, ngl! It truly shows you the importance of play! Edit: Even I make similar content like you, glad to see that someone makes content like me and has a similar number of subs
Let's not forget how he stood up to Tsuki during the training camp
While I’m disappointed that so much was cut from the manga, I’m quite taken with this movie. My impression is that they took the time that they were given and poured absolutely everything they had into it. The original material is usually better, and that’s true in this case- but the point of an adaptation is to celebrate the story in a different medium, and that’s EXACTLY what this movie chose to do. The immersion was successful, Kenma’s POV sequence was enthralling, and as sad as I am to lose so many themes, they identified the ones they needed to tell a cohesive and compelling story on screen. In short, everyone should read the manga- but that was my opinion BEFORE this movie came out. Honestly, I’m more concerned about the Kamomedai movie. This film benefited from seasons of setup for these already-beloved characters, but the next one will have to introduce, develop, and bow out an almost entirely unknown team. Not to mention Tenma Udai- he’s one of my favorite characters, and I’m rather anxious for him.
spoilers - people who see this, go read the manga please! I don't disagree - some of the choices they made (obviously the POV sequence), and the feeling of just straight intense volleyball was a sight to behold. I think they did the best that they could with what they had to do, I think it's just really unfortunate because Haikyuu of all series is a really difficult one to condense and just...summarize. It needs the additional time. If they try to condense the Kamomedai match, I could honestly see them entirely cutting out Hirugami's backstory or something like that and Asahi's subplot to do something similar to this movie where all eyes are on Hoshiumi and Hinata (I hope not). The Kamomedai match is a contender for my favorite match in the series, and if it isn't done well, I'm gonna be so disappointed 😭
The quality of animation was good but the audio for the balls became gun shots like I am happy it happened and some of the main panels came in but I am sad and disappointed with the way this happened. We could have waited a few more years for a perfect story telling rather than this
*SLIGHT SPOILERS* With a run time of 1 hr and 25 min, I really wish they added at least maybe 15-20 more minutes and included some of the scenes you mentioned, especially the backstory between Ukai and Nekomata. I am terrified of what this beautiful and near perfect story will turn into, but I guess we'll just have to wait for the second movie. What makes me the most upset is that yes we have the manga, but anime only watchers who don't pick up the manga will be missing out on so much. And the fact that we most likely won't get the Fukurodani match animated at all, which adds so much to those characters. I think the most optimistic way I can think of the rest of the anime going is them including all of the Kamomedai match in the next movie, and maybe a short final season for the time skip if they decide to pull an Attack on Titan and call these the "final movies" since they technically will be the last Haikyuu films, but add another season and have that be the true finale. I really hope the amazing performance of the movie at the box office encourages them to reconsider and add another season instead of ending it. The time skip is pivotal to the story as a whole and it would be disastrous to have it condensed or cut. Overall I thought the movie was good, but made me sad more than anything due to the pacing and what it means for the future of this series.
spoilers Well said! I've had a mixture of folks tell me that it just felt like a lot was missing (anime onlies, and of course the manga readers) Yeah...I'm really hoping the performance at the box office convinces them to do the series justice. I really don't want a repeat of something like the Promise Neverland S2! I'd prefer 2 more seasons sort of thing (1 for Kamomedai, 1 for the timeskip), but if we got a movie for Kamomedai and one for the timeskip, that would be...acceptable. My biggest issue would be if they try to condense both into the next movie, and that would be the worst thing of all that would happen. At least we have the manga 🥲 I plan on making a video all about why people should read/watch Haikyuu at some point in the near future...hopefully that comes sooner rather than later!
@@3ch0es Yes! I would love for the second movie to be the fukurodani match and have the rest of the series be in seasons, but with things like the uniqlo collab and end credit scenes seeming teasing the kamomedai match, it unfortunately doesn't seem like that is the direction they are taking
3ch0es video on Barakamon!??!!!! WE WILL be enjoying! Edit: I did ENJOY, it’s nice to see you back uploading
Frieren made some heavy noise during this last season. I’d need a rewatch I think, I wasn’t in the right place of mind to enjoy it, but damn it was still amazing! Another great work! Welcome back!
He's back. Glad you are
Now that's what I call a video there. Call me silly but when you ended that with "what's beyond journeys end?" I never realised that the title is one to ponder on itself, what is beyond your journeys end? This video has helped me appreciate Frieren even more. We're all authoring our own stories right now, whoever reads this I wish you the best 🤎

Haha that it has! Hoping that in the next month or so I'll have more than a couple videos out.
YES, THIS. Ennoshita story and him feeling because he quit/ran away in the past he doesn't deserve to feel a sense of accomplishment broke my heart. Him crying in the bathroom after they win is just :( He is such a natural leader despite his past and he deserves all the love!

i was so confused when I clicked on a video about hirugami and andrew luck came up
y'know, that's fair 😂
this is such a great video, the effort you put in doesn't go unnoticed! about your point about differences manifesting as a strength at 15:13, my personal interpretation of ushijima's character is that the left-handedness is a metaphor for autism- so your observation is twice as relevant. his team see him as this guy who's just so 'himself'/unlike others in his thought process and expression, but really delivers in volleyball as his passion because he knows himself/has been allowed to be himself. and he integrates exceptionally well in his team because they accept him as such
Shunsuke Kita: Process over Results.
He's not a starting player anymore, but he's still got what it takes. He takes really good care of the underclassmen, and cares about helping his team win in any way that he can and hypes up the team. And when he stepped in to give Kageyama a breather, Sugawara still showed he is a great setter and invaluable player.
Where did you go bro? Your videos are great. Please create more of Haikyuu!!.

this was a beautiful review and perspective on the movie man . i first watched it as a naive young teen at the age of 13 just awestruck by the visuals and music but as time went by , i found myself coming back to this movie again and again , each time seeing another part of being reflected in taki and his struggles . your words really verbalised a lot of what made me forlorn but could never be understood . thus , this video was like solace for me in that i understood more about myself . keep uploading man , rooting for you and hope you make big !!!1
