    My direct line great grandfather was the founder of the White Bear: Jean de Metteneye, Chevalier, who was the founder of the first Forestier, in 1320 of the Societo Noble et Chevalersque de l'Ours Blanc; married Marie Allacrt. I believe Pierre Mettenneye is still represented to this day in the tournament. My line were all knights, documented back to 950, and were among the nobles of Flanders. Cool history.

    neat, but you can tell she was scared to death from the start. she didn't even try to strike the opponent, really. no aggression. no desire to win, only to compete.

    • @benvankoert5661
      @benvankoert5661 Před 3 lety

      Agression has no place in solid lance jousting, it’s all about precision and control. Being terrified to death is normal doing this, if you choose to go all in aggressive you can lose it all, including any opportunity to get a chance to ever do this again.

    • @KarlKarsnark
      @KarlKarsnark Před 3 lety

      @@benvankoert5661 all fighting is the same, and the best defense is a good offense. ALWAYS apply pressure to your opponent and break them physically, or in this case, mentally. She was beaten the minute she sat on the horse, and the results prove as much. If she did it 10 more times the results would be much the same. There's a difference between training and getting in the ring. There's a reason it's called a "killer instinct" ;)

      Hitting in jousting is part of the game, but before this can happen ALL the prerequisites need to be covered: - Years of training in riding horses so you can ride well enough on unknown horses in faraway countries. - Years of investing in the correct armour and knowing how to move well in it and becoming so intimate with it that knowing when things are wrong with it that you know blindly where the problem lies and how your crew can fix it, even if they are inexperienced with your harness. - Making sure you’ll provide a good and safe target for your opponent at all times during the run. - the process of aiming and hitting should be muscle memory, all the while when you should be able to abort the hit at all times when it’s not safe to do so. This could mean the opponents horse’s head is too high, your opponent may have an armour malfunction which could mean your hit can be lethal, the wind could have picked up, visor has shifted so you can’t see well enough, hair in your face, muscle cramps.. anything can happen.. Inexperienced rookie jousters sometimes try to hit regardless because of insecurity, feeling they have something to prove or because they simple don’t have enough experience to spot trouble when it occurs. I’ve been there myself. It’s truly and absolutely commendable that Caro did her runs how she did them. She played safe, consciously and with intent, waiting for the moment that felt right, like the professional she is... ..missing by mere centimeters, close to the safest area to do so.. .. all the while when she’s being hit by the hardest hitting jousters in the world and standing her ground. All that in her first time of doing this with solids after literally traveling to the other side of the planet. So in short: I disagree.

    Hi Ben and Ed, very nice video. I've got three of Ed's saddles, 2 of which are war saddles that I use for jousting and skill at arms as well as trail riding and general flat work. I prefer these over all other saddles I have in my collection. The third one is a general riding saddle that has been tried by many visitors on our Icelandic stallion, and surprises everyone with the degree of close contact and the nice position it encourages.

    imagine a nigga in goofy ass tights come outta nowhere and uses kung fu to beat your brains out. Medieval times were fuckin gnarly. Hey its me again im editing this comment bc its the future now and sometimes I like to go back and change what i wrote. It makes me feel like I can change the past. Haha i wish you could you cant though in real life. I wont share too many details but my sister died because when were on a hike In Camarillo California while she was talking to me she happened to walk into what the exterminators said was "the biggest hornet nest they had ever seen" She looked into my eyes one last time when what looked like a yellow tsunami crashed over her. The buzzing drowned out her screams. I cant say anymore. :( well just this when they found her after (i hid in the pond nearby sometimes i think i could have helped) no body could even recognize her. Long story short when my parents finally got there they went into a kind of shock and refused to believe me what happened. They instead thought she got lost and went into the brush to "find" her. I had to run back to the road (4 miles) and use a strangers phone to call an ambulance. I had to watch when my sister died on the way to the hospital. One final note to end on, always watch where you are going when hiking, it is unwise to ever look away from the ground. If you need to you should stand in place, DO NOT keep moving. There are plenty of different things you could walk into, APART from the 23 different species of nesting hornets and wasps you could stroll into. Stay safe yall god bless. <3
