Yalla ! יאללה ! يلا - Episode 10 - Who Are We? with Indie Nile
Our guest in this episode is our new friend Indie Nile, who is a creator, drag artist and film director. Indie's father was born in the Palestinian village of Qula, and his family was driven out by the Zionist settlers during the Nakba in 1948.
In the last several months, Indie shifted the focus of his work from Drag Therapy to making brilliant CZcams videos, exploring Zionist society and his own Palestinian identity, with a lot of depth, compassion, humor and flair.
In our conversation we compared and contrasted our life stories and experiences, and discovered that even though we come from different backgrounds, we share the same deep wish that all inhabitants of the land of Palestine can live together, peacefully and equally. This allowed us to uncover our true core identity: caring for the well being and freedom of all living beings.

It's time to start dreaming a different paradigm. It's clear that we don't want this reality, but we have to decide what a new one'd look like. I agree with the concept that every government in the west has gone astray and are not serving the people any longer.

    1:00:00 Talking about "opening the cage" , a good comparison could be South Africa when they decided to abolish the apartheid system and give black Southafricans equal rights, same thing goes for the abolition of slavery and the gaining of equal civil rights for Afroamericans. They all live together in one country even though one of the two groups in each of these 2 countries brutally opressed and abused the other group for such a long time.

    I'm so glad you got out Elek I was getting very worried about you guys as i hadn't seen anything for a while and heard they were throwing people in jail for posts. Around the world they are cracking down on free speech around isrsel massively! I think it's better to leave and not support in any way if you feel better to leave Elek. Alon you have a different process but you would be welcome anywhere you went, including here in south africa but your connection to the land is real and authentic and maybe your work is there to help palestinians from within. Indie please don't go until palestine is free! I felt ill when I visited and I didn't even know anything at that point but i could tell there was insanity there and the intimidation and body searches at the airport were disgusting and dehumanisung and I'm not palestinian and wasn't even political at thst time. When palestine is free, those who don't belong will leave and those who do will stay as in south africa. It's the deoth of lies and propodanda and power if the israel lobby and integration with the military industrial western imoerial project that make palestne unique. It's the key to exposing the power structures of tge west. Beatiful conversation. You are the solidarity of life, such a joy to listen to. Thankyou.

    Completely disagree with Denile about Arabs as a people hate or have issues with Palestinians. It’s quite the opposite. I do believe that in certain classes ( usually upper class, western educated, western facing Arabs in certain countries LIKE the UAE where denile spent some time, do have an issue with Palestinians mainly due to propaganda from their autocratic leaders who are anxious to normalise with Israel and have spread the idea that they have spent millions on Palestinian leaders and groups and got nothing worthwhile in return. But as a regular Arab I know Palestinians are loved in a painful and sad way. So no totally disagree. Not all Arabs are khaleeji

      An example of how these autocrats rule was when saddam invaded Kuwait and Palestinian in diaspora in Kuwait and uae and Saudi, saddam was viewed as anti Israel and Palestinians expressed support for him on that basis and many many of them were kicked out of those countries. Again, it’s the governments that have issues with the Palestinians. Not the people

      It is so sad that the people who suffered a genocide in Europe and helped write the language that prevents future genocides from happening. And who think it’s a major crime to question the holocaust are the same ones who insist it is not genocide in Gaza. Must be that Israel is right and the whole world is lying. This is exactly the kind of thinking cult members engage in. So you want us to say nothing and continue killing people in Gaza till you finish the job. And in your child’s sick mind we Palestinian will go away and your will be fine and at peace. If you care to learn it is all out in the open. If genocide is accepted as a norm ,don’t you think it will create a less safe world to everyone? I understand stand that the Israeli society is suffering mass hysteria but still if you can make comments on CZcams you maybe able to do some critical thinking.

    @troubledocean Před 17 dny

    Okay, I have so many thoughts… way too many thoughts… I hope you don’t mind a lot of reading… I don’t have any personal connection to Palestine, I’ve just become obsessed with it since the 7th, I can’t take my eyes off of what’s going on, and I have been learning as much as I can. I really really enjoyed this discussion! I think what all of you are doing and sharing is very valuable. Please don’t stop! ♥️ (1) Regarding LGBTQ+ in Palestine: this is very much a deliberate trope that is overblown by the West. It’s also kind of disingenuous. While it is true in many places in West Asia and North Africa are culturally less accepting, it’s not actually that different from a lot of places around the world. Even here in the US, there is violence and discrimination and bullying against LGBTQ+ people, and getting disowned by your family and/or friends is a pretty common experience. How accepting people are here depends on where in the country you are. Of course things are gradually getting better over time, but there’s still a long way to go. Also, yes, Israel will try to use blackmail against gay and queer Palestinians to use them as informants. Let me tell you, one thing I know is that it is far worse to be seen as a collaborator with the occupiers than to be found out to be non-hetero. For Palestinians, there is nothing worse than being a collaborator with the occupier. That is why the PA will never be able to take control, because Palestinians will never accept them as legitimate because they collaborate with the occupiers. But anyway, surely you’ve heard of the Palestinian music artist/singer Bashar Murad? Palestinians are as varied as any other society, which means you’ll find people who are homophobic, people who are completely accepting, and everything in between. I mean, there are Palestinians who are leftists, Palestinians who are atheists, etc. And in fact, despite that Hamas is an Islamist organization, they have welcomed collaboration with the DFLP, which is a far-left Marxist-socialist secular organization. (2) I think the difference in connection to the land between Israelis and Palestinians is a keen observation. And we can see this difference playing out in the massive destruction to the land that the IOF is doing, total destruction without a second thought. Historically too, when they took over they changed the landscape in ways that were unhealthy for the native environment. Also, in the West Bank, the settlers destroy olive trees, and that’s a big deal because olive trees are both important and amazing. Also, by the way, all the bombs and destruction and all the flying of jets and helicopters will almost certainly have an effect on climate change. (3) Why can’t the IOF find Hamas? Because they’re too scared to go into the tunnels. 😂 Look, all civilians are above ground, and nearly all resistance fighters are underground. And the IOF knows that. So if they really wanted to go after only the resistance fighters and avoid “collateral damage”, they’d go into the tunnels. But they rarely have gone into the tunnels, and only the most shallow tunnels. Even the most powerful bombs won’t have any effect on the tunnels except the few that are less than 10m down. And they know that. The tunnel network is probably still at least 80% intact, if not more. The resistance fighters only come out of the tunnels to carry out operations against the IOF, and go back down when they’re done. (4) It’s not only Palestinians from the diaspora who can’t go to Palestine. If a Palestinian living in Palestine, born and raised there, leaves to, for example, go to school, or on holiday, or to a conference, or even for specialized medical treatment, they oftentimes cannot go back, because they are not allowed reentry. (5) Regarding Palestinian leadership: they have had good leaders, great leaders, but they always get either assassinated or permanently imprisoned. This is intentional, and a common tactic used by imperialist / colonialist powers, to take out any good leadership, so they are constantly held back from unifying and efficiently rising up. This is precisely part of the broader methodology of “divide and conquer”. They also have done the same thing the US has done in so many countries around the world: secretly support extremists and authoritarians, so they are almost guaranteed to have an excuse to use military force against them. Of course I don’t need to tell you why Israel would want an excuse for violence against the Palestinians. Fun fact: truly democratic governments would be far more common if it wasn’t for the US interfering to prevent or dismantle them. (6) When the topic of safety and security is brought up, it’s only ever for the Israelis. The issue of safety and security for Palestinians is never brought up. The same is true of feelings in general: Israelis’ feelings are to be taken into consideration and accommodated for, while Palestinians’ feelings should be ignored… blah blah blah, you get where I’m going with that. (7) I believe there is evidence that certain Israeli authorities did know that some kind of attack was going to happen. There were definitely a bunch of warnings, but they were just flat out ignored. On the one hand, I think part of this has to do with the deeply ingrained racism and supremacy: they looked down upon the Palestinians so much that they could not fathom they would be capable of something like Oct 7. On the other hand, I think there are reasons to think it’s very plausible the Israeli government was willing to sacrifice the lives of their own people so as to have an excuse for extreme military violence against the Palestinians. Why else would they plant settlements / kibbutzim along the wall around Gaza? I definitely don’t think anyone in Israel had any hand in planning the attack. If they had, I don’t think they would ever have allowed themselves to be so humiliated by the Palestinians. I mean, even the resistance fighters that day were shocked at how successful their operation was and how far they got and how long the IOF took to show up. Also, surely you know about the Hannibal Directive (or Doctrine), right? And that it was implemented on Oct 7? And that it is quite plausible and probable that the IOF killed several Israelis? You’ve heard of this, right? And now of course, the situation with the hostages, the fact that it’s clear that those in power don’t give a damn about the hostages and have no desire to rescue them. (8) Have you seen the debate between “Destiny” and Javad Hashmi on the YT channel Modern-Day Debate? (I’d post a link, but YT always deletes my comments with links.) I recently watched it… it almost drove me insane, because it’s “Destiny” 😫… but I couldn’t help wondering what you would think of that discussion. Yikes, sorry for writing so much! I guess I just get too engaged sometimes, and I have way too much going on inside my head! LOL 🇵🇸♥️🇵🇸

    This is such an important conversation- so thankful for Indie’s work that led me to this meeting of hearts and minds.🙏💜 On the topic of diaspora Palestinians visiting our ancestral homeland, there is legislation in IL that criminalizes the Boycott Divest Sanction movement and prohibits foreigners who are supporters of BDS from entering the country. For those of us who fall into this category, it is actually illegal for us to visit. Also, I think the topic of connection/separation to the land/Earth that @HebrewCanaanite touched on is worthy of further exploration sometime. (I could relate so much to that, having grown up in the US in a place named after the Native Americans who once lived there, as well as to Indie's finding a sense of "home" in airports...) The state's decades-long ecological apartheid-- water theft, aggressive monoculture, destruction of native flora, herbicidal warfare, and so much more as land continues to be reduced to toxic rubble-- must also play a role in this feeling of disconnection?

    Jewish people did fight back during the Holocaust. However, part of the "revised" Jewish history that believes Jews can only survive if they have a a Jewish State, removed Jewish resistance of antisemism and the Holocaust from history. We are taught that we were passive and died (sheep to the slaughter)- and that in Israel we finally fought back and became violent and took what we wanted. This is part of a very black and white thinking of Zionism. There were Jewish Partisans. Also the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising was almost successful. They had to fully burn it down to stop the intense Jewish resistance.

    Actually the Palestinian genocide started in 1941 when the Zionists started stealing and smuggling American weapons and anthrax AKA weapons of mass destruction and sending everything to what is known as Israel today where they slaughtered and misplaced thousands of people before the 1948 ethnic cleansing even became a thing. The reason they assassinated JFK was cause he found out all this crap and was about to cut them off completely
