dang.... hard to see the dream die for you, man.... Just started my -10 in the garage. Hope i can keep the dream alive, but I'm fighting a lot of the same things as you and my wife probably won't want to fly with me, either. Which makes it hard cause I really want her to be a part of it. We have a lot of places we could fly to and it could be super awesome. Good luck with everything. Also, please don't delete this channel, I do watch your old videos, still. They are helpful.

Sailing is such a good discussion. Tilt your wings 90 degrees and you've got a mast. No medical crap to worry about. It's honestly my plan as well as I feel I'm good for 10 years left on my medical and then it's sailing for me. Thank you for the update. I've been watching the RV10 build for many years. If you could ever get the permission from the owner, a video on the completed RV10 would be out of this world.

The problem at Vans wasn't a lack of demand. Quite the opposite. A lockdown induced increase in demand resulted in some poor outsourcing decisions and a bunch of unexpected costs. All of this happened in the context of a pricing policy designed to shift as many kits as possible by recovering a low profit margin per unit sold. Guess what? The money just ran out under these circumstances. In was a perfect storm.

Man haven’t checked on your channel in probably almost two years. Sad to see you’ve moved on, but I can’t say I blame ya. It’s a hell of a project and doing CZcams alongside it is even more of a project. I watched my hangar neighbor build an RV-14A for years. It was a quick build and I was still absolutely astonished at how much work it was. I basically ruled out that I would ever take on such a project. Happy with my V Tail Bonanza. I’m an airline guy and I was burnt out after years of grinding through years of training and jobs. Had no interest in GA for a quite a while. I’ve since really enjoyed getting back into it and have found my love for it again. Sometimes it just takes time away. Stay safe on the motorcycle and happy sailing ⛵️

I really don’t care what you build so long as you have the occasional video! I always thought there was a systematic way you approach a build and you explained the pitfalls and proper procedures. There is the 80-20 rule: if you can get the support and interest of 60-80% Don’t worry about the 20 that don’t (R Reagan) Good luck and don’t be a stranger!

Hey Jason, I just wanted to thank you for taking me and everyone else on the ride. Back when I first started watching (maybe 18 months or so after you started building), I was in between my sophomore and junior years in High School. I didn't really know what I wanted to do in life other than engineering. I knew I liked planes among a variety of other things, but along the way, you helped inspire my direction, and I'm one semester away from graduating with an Aerospace Engineering degree! Watching you build for all these years has been really great, and although I'm a long way from having disposable income for a plane, I'm looking forward to giving it a shot someday. I can't wait to see where your adventures take you next, and thank you for taking us with you :)

Hey Jason, thanks for the update! I was really wondering how you were doing and praying you would find a perfect buyer. From the looks of your video, I am guessing your are somewhere around the Bogue Sound? I have a good friend in Emerald Isle, so I fly into Beaufort to visit him when I can. Anyway, I built an RV-12 back in 2016-2017 when I lived in Northern California (live in East TN now). You videos were an inspiration to me and I thank you for that. That's also what compelled me to make a CZcams documentary of my RV-12 build. I do understand the ups and downs of your journey and I'm really happy for you. For what it's worth, I think you're in a great place now. Like you, I also love motorcycling and it's the same fun to me making coordinated turns on the street as in the air, while being a lot less hassle and money. Would love to chat sometime. All the best, Paul

It turns out "Jason Builds" was all about Jason building his life not just an airplane, over many years. You made it interesting to ride along with you from software entrepreneur, to law enforcement and beyond. You were excellent in presenting your passion, and surreptitiously revealing your life. In the end, it was a great life lesson on how we all change and grow. Thanks for the ride, Jason. All the best to you in the journey of life.

LIFE. That’s what happened. Interests change, mind and body change. Much like myself I started in aviation which was killed by the events of Sept 11, 2001. The I got into law enforcement and been there 16 years now. Many ups and downs and pondered quitting more often than not. I love boats ATV’s, dirt bikes and anything with an engine. We do camping and travelling but at times nothing seems to do it anymore! I refuse to sell anything but dread the day my 1961 Cessna 172B needs a new engine or major repairs

Thanks, Jason. Enjoyed following your RV build. I also "hit the wall", and I'm still there (RV7). I'm trying to put together a team of 3-4 co-owners and let's see where that goes. You have a great talent for presenting and making enjoyable youtube content. Wish you all the best, bro! ...and one last thing: I share your thoughts about warbirds vs. "normal planes". Most warbirds are not affordable. However, the Piper L-4 Grasshopper is "entry level" real warbird and heaps of fun to go low and slow. I own "LN-MAV", a 1944 Piper L-4. She talks to me every time we're up there.

Good to hear from you and see that you’re doing well. I appreciated your build videos but what I really enjoyed most was “getting to know Jason” and sharing in something that you were passionate about. Just because aviation isn’t your passion anymore doesn’t mean I’m going to quit watching. Your humble, down to earth, everyday “Joe” attitude/demeanor is what is going to keep me around. Just be you and do what suits you and your family. Whether that is gaming, motorcycles, sailing, or woodworking; just be true to yourself. I was wondering how you were doing and then this pops up in my feed. ☺ Regarding failure ( 10:09 ), we both know there is no failure, only lessons. It's part of the journey. You've even said in the past that you tend to lose interest in things only to come back to them at some point. In your present situation, it seems you made the right call to include projects that your wife also enjoys. The channel, like you said, isn't dead. It's just in hibernation. Aviation is way too expensive to be just a hobby...It has to be a way of life...if you don't have a mission that requires it at least a few times a month, it doesn't make sense...how many $100 hamburgers can you eat? Not enough to spend a quarter million dollars on an airplane you aren't flying...

My wife and I ride a lot. Our K1200LT just rolled over 100,000 miles this summer. It has been to Alaska, Newfoundland, Key West and around the US twice. Motorcycling is as rewarding to me as is flying and it is less expensive and more accessible.

Unfortunately, I think Van’s made some bad decisions “at the top” just as has happened in the Federal government and with the same outcome. The only difference is that the Feds can print money and a private company has to actually suffer for their mistakes.

I’m glad you came out whole on the kit. That lessens the pain a lot. I am about at the same stage with my S-21 as you were with your RV-10, but I have bought everything including engine and avionics so money won’t be a limitation. I build in fits and spurts, but haven’t lost the desire to keep going and my wife builds with me so that helps a lot. Best wishes going forward.

Just because it's no longer about an airplane doesn't mean it isn't worth watching. There's plenty of us out here who still appreciate craftsmanship in other forms. If you find yourself making something in the woodshop or doing fiberglass work on the sailboat, I'm sure it'll peak someone's interest. Myself included. Just bought my first Piper Cherokee this fall and have loved fixing that plane up as your videos inspired me to. Also, you remind me of Les Stroud the Survivorman every time I watch your videos. Cheers to new adventures and hello from Indiana!

I understand your reasoning exactly. After my dad passed away everyone would tell me I should do what I want, if I wanted to fly I should do it. Well, after 2+ years of researching, and also having a job with people who fly and own planes, I just couldnt do it. Its far, far, far, far too expensive for a married guy with a family to do the flying thing. Even building the cheapest plans built ultralight is expensive. But lets do the woodworking thing....maybe I can talk you into hand tools woodworking, I find it interesting and very challenging to use hand tools like out granddads and great granddads used.

So great to see another video from you Jason! I found your channel because I'm currently building an RV-14A. I really enjoyed following your build because you're a very personable guy. I really hope you don't consider selling your -10 a failure. It's NOT! I've been involved in just about every hobby you can think of. I'm no longer involved in many of them but I don't regret it all. I enjoyed the journey. Not many people are pilots and even fewer have owned an airplane. Cherish that memory and move on to your next adventure! Our interests change over time and that's OK! I'll continue to follow your channel regardless of what you do. I'm following YOU, not what you're doing.
