Art haul from The Range - did I waste my money or get bargains??
The Range is a UK-based retailer selling products in the home, garden, and leisure categories, with over 210 big stores in the United Kingdom and Ireland. It started out aiming to be the poor man's John Lewis, according to its founder. It's the sort of shop where you find utter bargains and also gasp out loud and wonder who in the world would ever buy a particular object. Their picture frame department is excellent if you ever need to frame something and their art and craft section has all sorts of varying quality. So join me as I go through all the different things I got on a recent visit to the Reading store. I'll test them out to give you my initial reaction and find out whether they are hits or misses.
If you don't have one near you, they do deliver and they do a click and collect system too. I have only used that once and it was not a great experience! But that's another story...
I got fabric medium, gesso (white and black), dual tip brush pens, varnishes (matt, satin and gloss), stamps, stickers, tissue paper, modelling paste and bits and bobs for mixed media work. Only one appears to be a dud, but you will have to watch to find out which!

Thanks for the review, i consider to add gold to my drawings actually, but i'm very careful with gold use. Because of course, it enrich a drawing, but it depend which drawings. I saw beginners putting gold on their drawings, and being more appreciated than better drawings without gold. It"s like it just need gold (or glitter, because it's the same with glitter) to be appreciated. In fact, i love gold almost only in illumination books from the middle-age or classical statues, because here, it have a true sense of elevation. So i'm even careful with my own drawings, because i want to deserve to use gold^^.

They are cheaper at 2.99 than anyone for the daler rowney graduate acrylics, even the big london supply stores. Great demo of the upgraded Ohuhu acrylic paint pens. I bought the earlier set, which I absolutely love. It seems to me that the new set has a lot more white pigment as the colours are paler and more pastel. That said, the Azure Blue is drastically different and I think better. I prefer the original light grey, but then maybe the new formula would be better for highlights or even shadows for pale subjects. I agree, the Lemon Yellow has become a deeper Cadmium Yellow which would be missed (for me). The Silver has improved drastically, I think. I'd miss quite a few of the older formulations, but on white paper only. I can also see how the improved opacity of the new formula would be great for highlights. Phew, I'm all a flutter about how different many colours are here. So very thankful you did this detailed comparison because I would have thought I had a defective set if I'd bought the new ones without seeing your review and demo! I still see myself buying the new ones eventually but I've only recently bought the older ones so it would be overkill at this time. Who knew a swatch comparison between 'versions' would be so informative?! Wonderful! Thank you very much and all the best! 👍👍👍

Those are embossing folders. You sandwich paper in them and crank them through a die cutting machine. The paper gets squeezed into the texture on the folder and makes the paper textured. I don’t imagine that you have a die cutting machine but if you want to experiment, put a bit of paper in there and roll a rolling pin over it. The paper needs to be a bit heavy (or it will tear) and you can spray the paper with a bit of water to make it more pliable before you press it in the folder. You might enjoy experimenting with them. 300gsm watercolour paper is way too heavy.

Hello. I am really enjoying your videos. I would appreciate if you could recommend a professional lightfast watercolor? I am getting more professional and it's a pity if they will fade overtime. Could you recommend in tins and tubes?

It depends where you live and what your budget is. There is no single answer. Go for artist grade tunes, for max flexibility. Decebt paints will have a lightfastness rating for each colour.mEven high quality ranges have fugitive colours, so your will need to pick and choose eg Opera Rose is always fugitive whether it is Daniel Smith or a cheap Chinese make

@@LizChadertonArt Thank you, dear Liz for your answer. Do you prefer generally tubes or tins with color. ?

@@joykelempert9135 tube! More flexibility. You can use them to fill pans if you want and they are so quick to mix big creamy washes….

Hello Liz, I’ve been watching your videos for about a month now. Brilliant and yesterday I had a go at 4 bookmarks. With literally no artistic talent I actually made something I am really proud of. Thanks for the inspiration. I’m just venturing into the realms of art journals too. 😊🎉

I’ve seen it now. Thanks. Another new thing you’ve taught me! Did a tiny trail with my glue & 2 black inks, great! Both showed patterns through ! Super!

Wow, I love the result of this method! Who’d have thunk purple underpaying would turn into the most gorgeous warm browns. Can’t wait to have a go at this one 😊
