It was more about seeing what was possible with stamping into hot steel. The wrench could definitely be better but I learned from it and I really did enjoy the whole process. Regarding vertical welds. Since you are using MIG you might consider running the first pass up hill with a single small stringer instead of a weave and then immediately running downhill over it with a slight weave. This initial pass will give you penetration while the second will smooth it out giving you a good looking cap.

I absolutely love that table. I wish I wasn't q the kumiko tables are so gorgeous. I especially love the natural dark and light contrast of woods and such with kumiko. We've been needing a coffee table for years haha. I wonder if making a poorman's version without heavy equipment is possible. I'd never get to your level, even if someone handed me all the tools. This work is amazing. I also do art, but more visual art/drawing. I get what you mean about getting hung up on the imperfections. It's difficult to embrace. I've found a middle ground where i find what looks "perfect" for me personally, even if it doesn't look perfect objectively, if that makes sense. Pick a point where you can live with the results. Good luck!😊

This is a nice project with lots of good ideas, I enjoyed watching this and thank you for posting. On the forging scale, I'm often soaking forgings in vinegar to remove scale, especially in a complex shape, something a wire brush can't get to. Heating the vinegar can speed things up some. That might be worth a try if you haven't already done so. The induction forges are becoming rapidly popular among blacksmiths/bladesmiths in my area. Watching you work, I'm wondering if borax or boric acid flux could be of use in the induction forge world. Coat the workpiece with the boric acid alcohol mix (ala Clickspring), heat, experience the brief flaming excitement as the alcohol burns off, fly press using the die, flux reduces/ prevents scale formation. I do this occasionally in the gas forge, I don't -- yet -- have an induction forge. Thanks again.

Nice job, more patient than I am. With regards to your plating, a piece like that I would first soak in diluted standard hardware store hydrochloric acid (about 20% by volume) overnight and then wash and dry before cleaning on a wire wheel and then your standard prep, this will remove all mill scale. Optionally you can also electro clean in water and sodium carbonate (soda ash) again from the hardware pool aisle and then use a DC power supply or battery charger and connect the negative to your job

Having served an apprenticeship, one of the training engineers taught fitting practicals. He taught us, when filing, to always hold the file, with palm facing upwards. It ensures a flat filing technique. Holding it the typical way, the wrist tends to rotate, and the surface becomes unpredictable.
