This was a project I've been meaning to get to for a good few years but I couldn't come up with a design I was happy with. I'm super pleased with the outcome but more importantly the family love it too! Now I need to design some chairs.
As always I'm happy to answer any questions.

If only that beautiful hammer would ship to Norway. It looks so nice, and I really would like to buy it :)
That is a very nice looking table top. I am typically not a fan of epoxy tables, but you made something that is very pleasing to my eyes!
The chair should match the table top
❤❤
This turned out _just beautiful._ I'm certain your wife is gonna _love_ these pieces, for _many_ years to come. Thanks for the sharing. Your work, processes & channel are a wonderful source of inspiration. *hugs from Canada
I’m not sure what’s more impressive,
your woodworking skills,
your design taste,
or your tolerance for redundancy
I'd say it's his tolerance for pythons.
Thanks for watch ,, iam from 🇮🇩🤝
Also the skill to match the right tools to each individual task (which I believe you've subsumed under woodworking skills)
I've seen shop dogs and shop cats....but shop python is a new one.
The common shop python is actually the reason you rarely see shop cats and dogs, down under. They are usually only brought in as a food source. 😂
@@Farmfield … you win the internet for today 😂
Beautiful coastal carpet python, for anyone wondering exactly what it is. These are common along the coastal strip from northern NSW into QLD, and only dangerous if you’re the size of a possum, rat, etc
Only in Australia!
Shop pythons prevent shop rats. Possibly shop dogs and cats too but I’d imagine most people “down under” know not to leave pets unattended since snakes are only one of the scary things you can have in a shop, shed or house.
I love how you just ignore the snake in your shop. Just awesome.
Tell us you’re an Aussie without telling us you’re an Aussie: “I tried to remove them without bothering the python too much” 😳
The black epoxy was definitely the right choice, and that finish looks awesome. I appreciate leaving in the mistakes, like the one with exposing the loose tenons after cutting on the band saw. I've done something like that myself a couple of times and beat myself up about it for nothing as it couldn't be seen in the finished work in the end. Wonderful work as always 👍
Yeah, my view is the only time guests will see those mistakes is they are either experiencing a serious medical emergency or drunk. In either case they won't remember.😉
Thanks Mike - I was super pleased with the black epoxy and glad I reverted back to it! :)
You waited for the kids to grow up before building it. Smart!
I was going to pretty much say exactly what you did Mike so thanks for making it easy for me!
@@PaskMakes maybe a very dark blue would be even better.
Amazing result Neil, adventurous design yet harmonises so well in its setting.
Thanks very much - glad you enjoyed it! :)
@@PaskMakescan you tell me what’s the mask that comes with machine on back of your head is? I’m curious what it looks like, please?
Well said. 👍🏼
Holy cow! It's gorgeous! This is my first time seeing one of your videos, and I had to share it with my woodworking-as-a-hobby husband, so that he can see all of the cool tools you've built to make the whole process easier and more precise! Your video has so much good info in it! Thank you so much for sharing your talents here! 😁
The little inset "Kath Seal of Approval" at 33:38 is so goofy and wonderful.
That's awesome. Glad it came out so well after all the tribulations.
Thanks very much Moz! Glad you liked it mate! :)
Probably my favorite table I have seen here on CZcams, and I've seen plenty of them. I love how you created an intricate design without going over the top. Top notch job sir!
I really enjoy your videos. You dont make it to long and I appreciate the explanations as you go a long. You are really talented, this table is amazing!
It looks beautiful! Congratulations on all of your hard work paying off on such an amazing project.
as always, just beautiful work, plus being humble enough by not only leaving mistakes in the final edit but actually pointing them out.
No worries Fadi - Glad you enjoyed it :)
Brilliant! You never disappoint, Pask. It's a stunning design. I really like mid-century furniture, and I'm glad to see an expert craftsman who appreciates it and can do it justice. Glad the missus was pleased, too. Well done!
Thanks very much! Glad you enjoyed it! :)
@@PaskMakes any thoughts on doing the brass Hammer again?
I like how you get straight to the build and not talk about useless info like others do
Neil, great work. I didn't realize how the time passed. The table turned out great and I'm glad your wife likes it too. Besides all this, there is something more important; thank you very much for being kind to the snake and not disturbing him.
After watching several of your videos and feeling inspired, I have built a long drawer for my truck bed, bought your mortiser plans and built it, built a chicken coop for our backyard, even though we still don't have any chickens since no one wants to tend to them, and now I feel challenged to try and build a dining table based on this brilliant design. Also, my wife has questioned my abilities, "If you don't think you have the talent or you don't want to learn, that's fine. I don't need a beautiful dining table!" I keep making things difficult for myself by watching your videos, but I really love the pain they cause me.
Whats the point of keeping your truck bed in a drawer? Why not get a station wagon?
What an incredible work of art! You are so massively talented, I doubt anyone has ever been bored even a second while watching your videos.
Thanks very much Teresa - Glad you enjoyed it! :)
Finally a sponsor on a CZcams video who's product is actually amazing. That's a first.
Absolutely stunning Neil - as usual! We can forgive them not all being machining projects when they come out this well :-) cheers, Craig
Thanks very much Craig - glad you enjoyed it mate! I'm looking forward to more machining projects too. :)
Oh, Neil. That is gorgeous. That would complement ANY house and of course, Kath loved it. When something is made with love, it makes a beautiful object even better. You are a good man, mate. Thank you for sharing this with us all.
Dude the drum sander is SUCH a great tool. Not only can you do what you did, but surfacing end grain stuff like a cutting board is great too. Takes a while, but worth it. Also, it’s nice to be able to do bulk sanding with effective dust collection! Such a great tool.
I reckon I'll get heaps of use out of it as there's been many times in the past I could've done with one. It really is a great machine. :)
@@PaskMakes You'll love it! I made a high chair for my niece several years ago. Table saw straight thru the drum sander on 100 grit, then a roundover on the router table. All the parts evenly dimensioned and sanded, all with dust collection!! Just had to finish sand. So nice...
The black epoxy really did make the table look extra special. Excellent job.
The most discerning client - your partner and she gave it double likes! So its, "What she said," from all of us, Neil. It is a beautiful piece of work - your dedication shows!
Australia, where men are men and every shop has a python! Great vid, the pattern work is fabulous!
Love these epic builds. The craftsmanship is always top-notch, and it's nice to see maker videos that are "real" projects vs. "yet another shop project".
The mistakes are so encouraging and do not detract from the finished product in any way. Thank you so much for taking us along on the journey ❤
looks amazing! You were absolutely correct in going back and using the black resin, it makes it look so much better.
Also, thanks for just leaving the snake be. Many people would have gotten rid of him, but he was just minding his own business there and you realised that, so that's much appreciated!
Stunning! Truly a work of art in the design, kumiko and choice of finish. Well done, and your best Scrapbook Challenge yet! 🙂
Thank you Jan - glad you like the design! :)
That table is gorgeous, I love the look and feel of spotted gum, but it is dense and heavy.
I made a cabinet out of spotted gum and used the same approach of gluing thin pieces to a plywood backing for the door in a herringbone pattern.
Fantastic table, everyone is making epoxy river tops so Pask makes a kumiko one, your originality makes this channel stand out once again.
I'm not a huge fan of mid century furniture but WOW. That table is absolutely beautiful.
Gorgeous build, Neil -- definitely made my palms sweat a few times with some of your high stakes operations! It came out beautifully, very nice fusion of MCM and Japanese styles.
Thanks very much! The only time I was really disappointed was when I poured the clear epoxy in. I honestly thought I'd ruined it but when I stopped and thought about it, I came up with a solution. :)
@@PaskMakes Good thinking on your feet!
Very well done Neil. No surprises there tho. I always enjoy your videos. Particularly when you run into a snag and demonstrate your exceptional on-the-fly problem solving techniques. Yessir, very well done indeed.
Thanks very much! Glad you enjoyed it! :)
I truly love watching you work and make such amazing things! You could never bore me with sanding or anything else you do in these videos. I for one love your work and style! You are an AMAZING INSPIRATION to me and the rest of the world. Thank you Sir for your time and for sharing your awesomeness!!! ONE LOVE TO ALL!!!
Thanks, Neil!!!!
We needed that.
Happy Mothers' Day to your wife!!!
I think we can say this is the most refined of your "Scrap wood challenge" projects 😂
Love it!!!
Hey, some of the wood is good. Whatcha gonna do
*Well done* Neil-it's beautiful. Btw, did Cath tell you; one of your local restaurants called after watching this video. They said: "We fell in love with the table and wondered; could we order 25 just like it for our formal dining room grand opening *in 2 weeks?"* They also wanted to know if they could get 2 additional tables that were approximately: 30cm wider x 90cm longer. 😁 Lets see-if you don't sleep, eat, or talk it may be possible! 😂 Great job as always Neil-and enjoy your new table Cath.
Thanks very much Dan! If anyone wants one I'm afraid they'll have to make their own! ;)
I appreciate that you include the "fails" and mistakes with work-arounds in your videos. A saying I have escribed to for years is: "The test of a good carpenter is not whether they make mistakes but rather, can they fix the ones they will make."
The black makes the top "pop". Beautiful piece of work.
A-MA-ZING!! Love it. What a great gift to have someone in your life who makes such beautiful things
I appreciate the fact that you left the python to stay on keeping your shop mouse free.
as usual Neil, you are as much talented in woodworking as you are in designing! It looks absolutely stunning!
Thanks very much! :)
Love the result, i can imagine the time used sanding all this black resin, bravo
The black epoxy is perfect (imho) as the clear didn't provide enough contrast to feature the tiles. Great table can't wait to see the chairs. Thanks
still watching, but I just wanted to say thank you for not playing up the python as dangerous or as a draw for your video. It's just a snake who found a good hiding spot and it isn't venomous or dangerous to you so thanks for not turning it into something it's not. As always, love watching your work and that pattern is memorizing! Always love geometric patterns and I enjoyed watching you build it.
Very beautiful table, I hope your food taste much better now 😊 Thank for sharing your amazing videos, God bless you and your family.
This was a delight to watch. The patience and precision of cutting all of those pieces, the absolute save with the black epoxy and the whole fit and final finish... just superb
You’re videos are so great! It’s been really fun watching you over the years. I’ve always appreciated how you go out of your way to use simple tools available to most people, but it has also been cool watching you build out your shop over time. Thank you so much for doing what you do and sticking with it. Your channel has become something special.
As usual, your end result is absolutely beautiful! You are also inspiring - I found myself wondering if I could make a new top for my existing table. Will give it a couple thousand thoughts for next year. 🤔
Thanks very much June! I reckon that's a great idea to make a new top for an old table. :)
Brilliant table. It was the right call to use black than trying to fill with clear.
fantastic! I always love your unique approach and the way you allow for mistakes to become minute and really unnoticeable details. As a small shop wood worker I have saved many projects by going with the flow!
The end result looked so amazing that I almost forgot about the python!
Man every time I see you do a wood project I reckon I need to extend my shed to put in a proper wood shop! Seriously epic mate looks unreal. When I first saw it, it reminded me of the teak “Parker” furniture from the 60s. I trust Cath will be happy! (Once you do the chairs… and the kitchen…. And fix the laundry…. And….. 😂😂😂😂😂 Hey Cath! ;-)
Thanks mate! You should build a woodwork shop then you could make another Kayak! As you know I do need to renovate the kitchen as it's slowly falling apart, I just don't know where to start! :)
@@PaskMakes Where to start? By the back door and make your way around the room.
Excellent project! As a beginner hobbyist woodworker, creative projects like this one are very inspiring!
Using the metal bar to get the curve just right for the outside of the table is pure genius!
I love the simple and highly effective ways Mr. Pask uses to align all the pieces before cutting!
If you opt for a second coat of Rubio, make sure to check out Blacktails process for it. Apparently Rubio doesn't like sticking to itself. Awesome project! I hope to try my hands at Kumiko in the future, because of all the wonderful projects you've made!
Thanks very much Michael! I'll definitely look into that and btw if you're thinking of trying kumiko, you should. You'll love it. :)
Absolutely beautiful table, the black really helped it stand out. Even better when you put the finish on. Glad your wife loves it too 👍
P.S. that was the most Australian thing....spots a python and didn't even worry about it. Yeah, man, it's just a python, we got way scarier snakes here in Australia! 😂
This table is amazing. At the end I was saying to myself "right, some bench to go with it now??", and seconds later you sayed you were thinking about making chairs. I'm allready impatient to see them!!!
Thank you for sharing with us
Dear sir,
After watching your video, I proceeded to the comments section to find many well deserved compliments on your craftsmanship and the beauty of this table.
But I didn't find one single compliment regarding one particular thing that I personally found quite amazing, and I wanted to shower you with accolades for it!
The fact that you didn't have a bloody stroke when you uncovered that behemoth of a snake, almost equals your abilities as an artisan and I forevermore salute you!
Amazing work!
Brilliant piece! While I love Kumiko in principle, I find it to visually noisy to own any, but I love to see it in other people’s possession! Amazing work as always Pask!
Thanks very much Jarik! That's fair enough we all have different tastes, glad you appreciate it though. :)
Gorgeous design and exceptional craftsmanship. Glad I'm not the only one to make a flub here and there!
Fun to see you do a woodworking video.
A pleasure to watch as usual. A stunning piece of furniture that anyone would be proud to have in their home.
I'm so glad to see you to work with wood again!
The table looks fantastic and absolutely worth using the black epoxy.
Thank you for the video!
The most beautiful dining table I have ever seen
YES!!! Back to wood! Love it. I mean all that soldering and steelwork is great, you do you, but wood is what brought me here. And you're great at this. Beautiful table.
cute visitor looked very cozy in your timber pile!
It's nice to see you go back to scrap wood, it's what attracted me to the channel originally. Thank you
Birdy
I love watching your videos over and over. You always do such beautiful work. It is an absolute pleasure just watching you work.
This table looks absolutely fantastic and with that said, even your design eye and skill is from an other world.
Congratulations! This is what perfection, patience and care are all about... he outsmarts the Chinese carpentry channels, those who only do very poorly done jobs.
Carpentry work like the one you did deserves all my praise in the world! I have no words to express your genius.
The process is definitely not boring, your work and editing are great!
this is a fabulous table! i love Mid Century Modern design! so cool! Love it!!!!😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Hi Neil, that table you made took me back fifty years when I needed to make a dinning room table for the family. My garage workshop was not big enough to fit a table that I designed in such a small space, so I enrolled at the local Polytechnic in their night class of wood working (they have the space and the machinery)! I planned on a table of 2 x 1 meters and the timber was New Zealand Kahikatea (Dacrycarpus Ddacrydiodes) known as White Pine for the middle, 12 strips of 2” x 2”. For the framing and the legs I bought 8” x 2” planks of New Zealand Heart of Rimu (Dacrydium Cupressinum) known as Red Pine, using the middle zone to have the light brown timber. I glued the timber together using a two pot black marine glue. This way the black joints emphasised the wood and sealed it with three coats of polyurethane. As you pointed out, the joints were held together with the old fashion plugs and a lot of clamps. The part that took the longest was the sanding down. Cheers mate. Harera
Good Lord, man... Absolutely brilliant!
My coffee went cold in the mug because I was so captivated. Thanks for the riveting video!!
Thank you, Neil: I've had a truly horrible day (my mam died this morning, exactly four weeks after my dad passed) but your makes are always so uplifting and positive -- I needed to see something like that!
My sincerest condolences on your loss(es)...💔💔💔
@@DonnaMSchmid Thank you, Donna! That's very kind of you!
LOVE the pattern you used for your dining table. I have always LOVED geometric designs. Great job!!
All I know so far is some of Pask's previous work and what I saw in the thumbnail image and I'm ready to state unequivocally that this is the greatest table ever
I LOVE that kayak!! Oh, yes, the table is stunning work. Beautiful python too!
Wow I love that you emphasises safety. Great job with the table
When you were mixing the clear resin, I was thinking: "Dude, no, that's not gonna work!",. So happy you had a change of heart and used a different solution to aid visual contrast. Nice work, very nice. If ever I'm able to in the future, I'd offer to pay you to make me one of those tables; it's gorgeous!!
Oh my... Your work is so fabulous an inspiring to me! Thank you so much!!! Especially with resources that (almost) every craftsman has in his workshop.
AMAZING! REally appreciate your design style of the legs and the softly rounded sides. Very flowing and smooth
Wow, absolutely stunning! What a craftsmanship.
Amazing work!!! I love watching your videos . I also enjoy that you showcase your mistakes and what you do to correct them😊
It is a timeless well made piece of furniture.
WOW....
Incredible. What a FABULOUS job. Congratulations!
Thank you for sharing. Very detailed and whimsical, beautiful work!
Well, that was a journey Neil. A couple of times I thought it was going in the bin !! It has to be said it turned out very well. Stewart, south west WA.
Beautiful table build Neil & great way to keep the wife happy as well! Cheers! 👍👍
You're an inspiration; thanks for this, especially leaving in the mistakes. The result is beautiful and functional too, so I am not surprised your wife was happy with it.
Every time I watch a new video of yours I say: this is the best so far. 😊you are amazing.
You are truly a gifted person and do EXCEPTIONAL work. God bless you, my friend.
Well done, sir! Your meticulousness and the planning and precision really appeal to me! That's a top quality table and I'm glad the wife likes it!
Cheers from Kansas!
The table is gorgeous.
The table looks fabulous Neil and I love the kumiko inlay and how the resin makes it stand out.
Awesome video mate 👍🏽 👌 👏
Your skill is in absolutely glorious level.
Wow, just wow. Great job on the table and taking the chance with the black apoxy paid off and then some. Amazing work, Sir. Just absolutely amazing. I'm glad the Mrs liked it. Can't wait for the chairs.
Simply amazing. Owesome results!! 🤩
Neil, absolutely fantastic job. It reminds me of an Ercol coffee table we used to have back home in the UK 60 years ago, classic design well implemented will always endure.
It goes real nice with the floor tiles. Really nice job.
