Cloth trainers for a 1 year old review
In this video I share the cloth trainers we got when we went diaper free at 1 years old. I filmed this when Elba was 16 months old and I share our experience using various cloth trainers from 12 months to 16 months. Most of what I discuss is the fit and use for an elimination communication baby. We did elimination communication from birth and decided to move from diapers to cloth trainers at 12 months old.

    I do see a lot of people saying how their babies grow out of a wrap. I think more mommas should look into ‘backing’ or African baby back carrying, the fabric isn’t particularly special but works wonders for bigger babies 3-6 months plus. I plan on using a wrap and then backing my baby once they’re too big for the traditional style

    Thank you for sharing, I enjoyed your storytelling. I’m sad that you had such a hectic experience, I’m glad you had such a supportive doula! I had some similar experiences of chaos when my daughter was born, I had intended to be at a near by birthing center, and like you I thought labour might go on for a long time, then kind-of suddenly having conversations with the midwife about wether to go to the birthing center or stay. We ended up going with the original plan and my daughter was born in the car on the way.

    I looked at an online ovulation calculator and it said I had already ovulated lol but I still have ten days before my period is missed and we did the thing yesterday… but here’s the kicker you have to pay attention to your bodies discharge too and that egg white stuff was ridiculous for me personally the day before which is a clear sign of ovulation. So I’m praying whatever my husband left me will will still find its way to an egg if that makes sense

    I started at 2 months old and just within 3 or 4 days she is pooping 90% in the potty. Pee is more difficult since she does it so often hahaha but at least the poops are going in the potty which is amazing. She also has started to wait after waking up until I put her on the potty 😳 at least it seems to me so, because she used to wake up and poop in the diaper before I could pick her up. But now she wakes up and I take her and put on the potty and she immediately poops.

      @carmenfourie5346 Před 27 dny

      I feel you! It is not popular in my area at all (Canada). At the time I started I didn't know anyone doing it. Since then, I met one mom who started doing it at 9 months and from discussing it with mom friends a few of them started doing it. I really appreciated the mom friend who started at 9 months because her kiddo was 1 year older than mine and I learnt a lot from watching them and their experience. As well as other things like I could see her kiddo's tiny trainers to see what size to order and we did some EC orders together. It isn't easy, but if you do happen to meet someone else who does it - I highly recommend asking them to hang out again :)

    I like it when mothers teach babies how to sign language too before they’re able to talk, it actually helps them to learn how to communicate earlier in their lives. Sign language could also help babies to understand how to go potty in a can.

      @carmenfourie5346 Před 27 dny

      Yeah! I love hearing this. I wasn't sure if I wanted to do this, and we ended up not doing it and using verbal cues instead or pointing or tapping the potty. I cover this in later updates. Our baby seemed to be quick to communicate verbally and therefore we didn't regret not using baby sign language (she started saying "psss" or "pou", but if things were different maybe we would have regretted not doing it. I'd love to hear more parents' views and experiences with this.

    • @carmenfourie5346
      @carmenfourie5346 Před 27 dny

      There isn't much you can do, because it isn't a legal requirement for a hearing to be chaired externally. The requirement is for substantive and procedural fairness and this you will only be able to know if it was met once the hearing is done. My recommendation is go through the hearing and if afterwards you believe it was unfair refer it for adjudication. We cannot assume "unfairness" prior to a hearing taking place.

    From a grandma’s perspective. As my mother told me when I was raising my kids, by the time they get to college they will be potty trained, able to feed themselves, speak coherently, dressing themselves, and might even clean up after themselves. The parenting journey is more about building a healthy child than ensuring they meet the goals set by other people. IMO relaxed, responsible parents raise responsible, calm children.

    No offence, but I can see why you might be having troubles conceiving. I feel like you’re putting way too much emphasis/ pressure on recording each body change, all day long, each and every week, all month and years long!! Talk about stressful. I really do believe there’s something to letting it just “happen..” I appreciate your honesty nonetheless. Sorry to hear about your 4 miscarriages, that must’ve been rough. Good luck and I hope something pans out 💓

    • @carmenfourie5346
      @carmenfourie5346 Před měsícem

      Hi there! Thanks for watching and for taking the time to write a comment. I can see how it may come across as "stressful", however, we didn't have any struggles conceiving (most conceptions happened the first cycle of trying - hence why I had 5 pregnancies in 12 months). But more than that - my journaling has been an incredibly beautiful & valuable tool on my health and wellbeing journey. It aided me in my health & preconception efforts, I used it to deepen my awareness & understanding of my body and to live more in sync with my cycle. From a daily reflection of how I felt and how I treated my body - I curated a deep appreciation for my body, and I treat it with care and respect. I started my journalling long before TTC and I continued through my pregnancies until 16 months post-partum. I have now stopped and moved to a shorter paper chart to track to avoid pregnancy (for child spacing reasons), but I think a free hand journal can be such a valuable tool to use and whether it is valuable or stressful will depend on how it is being used.

    • @carmenfourie5346
      @carmenfourie5346 Před měsícem

      Sure! It is the breastmilk that a woman's body produces in pregnancy and shortly after birth (essentially, it's the first milk baby has in the first few days). Around day 2 to 4 after birth the milk will change from colostrum to traditional breastmilk (people call this process their milk coming in). Colostrum is thicker and more yellow than traditional milk.

      I'd recommend staying consistent with offering potty at times they may typically go. Make a sound that prompts them (they will likely learn to make that sound back to you) and just keep observing your baby to see how they communicate with you. :) And also no stress if your baby has communication that isn't very obvious.

      By flats I mean a flat diaper - it is a flat piece of cloth that is hand folded into a diaper shape and closed with a snappy (a claw close thing) and then I use a waterproof cover over it which is the cover I speak of.

    This is a scam. The babies are still on diapers until after they are 1. I haven’t seen or heard a baby that was fully trained by 6 months. The earliest is 9 months. There is a tribe in Kenya called turkana and they teach their babies to eliminate at 9 months

      I assume that someone would consider it a "scam" if they had a specific expectation that their baby should be diaper free by a particular age. I've mentioned in most (or all) of my EC videos that we had no goals to be diaper free by a particular age. EC for me is about respect, facilitating my child's needs and our connection & communication. Cleaning less cloth diapers and her being diaper free before the average potty-training age is a nice to have byproduct. That's very interesting what you shared about the tribe in Kenya. Thanks you.

    Hi I just watched your video. I resigned due to having a miscarriage and told my boss that I will come to work but can't work back to back double shifts as we worked 13 hour shifts. He said some one was coming to assist me eventually no one came and I had to find someone. I could barely walk and send him multiple messages but instead gave me a 61hour week shift and told him I can't work those hours. I then couldn't do it as he didn't want to listen to me then I resigned. I went to ccma and the guy told me that I hadn't to resign that it would be pointless. I have the proof of the resignation and the time sheets with the messages I sent him. Do I have a chance?

      I can't provide an informed response based off this information, but I would recommend seeing the case through at the CCMA. Depending on your earnings it does sound like the working conditions were contrary to those stipulated in the BCEA.

    Thank you so much for all your experience and tips. My baby is 6 months and I wish I would’ve known about it before but I am determined to try now and stay consistent. Thank you
