Taking a layman's guess before the explanation is given. I think it orbits L2 by being slowed down and then "slingshotted" forward in its solar orbit by Earth. That it, it is actually orbiting the sun but in a position so precise that Earth's gravitational effect causes it to _appear_ to orbit L2.

How do I track the ecliptic of the sun from the vernal equinox until the next vernal equinox-the days it takes the sun to track through each constellation beginning with the constellation after the vernal equinox?

Lagrangian points are 'nothing' in the same sense that dimples are 'nothing.'

I think there is no natural way to keep a beam in the direction of our Galaxy (let alone the Solar System!) for 5 minutes at a distance of 2 billion ly. Even the telescope would need correction. It must have been one large body at highly relativistic speeds.

I'm back here a year later to wonder - have astronomers been able to see any 'proplyds' in the 30 Doradus? I'm assuming the answer is 'no', they're possible to see in the Orion nebula because that's relatively nearby, but 30 Doradus is too far away to resolve such small objects.

What are the chances they're the same size as the sun? No such thing as coincidence in the heavens. The earth is a stationary realm and the heavens is the ones moving, not earth. It's a perfect time piece of the creator.

But the Earth is moving beyond just its rotation - it is orbiting the sun, and the solar system is also moving. How does that _not_ change the coordinates of stars in this celestial sphere if Earth must be at the center of it? Or is the diameter of this sphere far more order of magnitudes larger than any of the quantities that describe the motion of our Earth and solar system?
