I was watching the weather earlier and hoping that the tropical storm would bring us some rain. I feel terrible for Houston and places that have flooded so bad, though. It looks like it is headed to Florida. But, I admit I had the same thought for a bit this afternoon when it was so hot--and is still hot at 9:20 pm. The sunflowers will be lovely no matter what color they end up being. I don't know about those squash. The plants are beautiful, but the fruits are such a mystery. The chickens were ready for you to get the pool filled back up with nice cool water. Hope you feel better. It is hard to work in the heat like that with respiratory illness. They are so lucky to have a pool!! I appreciate you making it normal to be concerned about chickens in extreme weather and doing things to help them. I was drawn to your channel during the winter when I was worried about the cold nights for my teenage flock. So many people were saying they don't need heat--don't put heaters in the coop. Some people made it sould like it was irresponsible to provide heat in winter--they said they would be too dependant on it and would die if the power ever went out. That kind of thing just makes you second guess your instincts. This summer has been so hot and kinda scary as my first summer with chickens--thanks to you they have fans in the coop! Once they realized the fans weren't going to kill they, the decided they really liked them!

I totally get it with your family, mine are the same, they're nice to my face then judge me negatively and gossip about me behind my back and say really horrible things about me too, I just ended up saying to them that pretending to be nice to someone is worse than being mean all the time, ugh! I was in a terrible situation where I was being badly abused by an alcoholic boyfriend but instead of helping me they just gossiped about how stupid I was for being with him not realising how manipulated I was by him. I finally escaped after being beaten black and blue and when i got to my mum's house she phoned my estranged dad and just smirked that she won the bet about when it would all come to an end. YUK!! such gross behaviour!! But anyway on a lighter note lol! here's a little song to brighten your day, or at least crack you up at the foolishness of it haha! The farmers around here have his kind of accent too 😂I used to always sing it as a kid to my grandma's chickens, amongst others she had a sweet old chicken called Henny Penny but in all that time never had any baby chicks! Maybe that squash is a cross of some kind. It will be interesting to see what a mature one looks like. The sunflowers are looking great. Have not ever seen any purple or pink ones--look forward to their blooms. It is good to be real. So many people film the perfect things and not the real things in life and just make everyone else wonder why they aren't perfect, too. Hope Paul makes some progress in a positive direction. It is good to give yourself time to see if it will work out and if not, you will have more time to plan and get ready for your next move. Take care, friend!

Little ninjas! Their hormones are making them crazy. They don't really know what they are doing yet! I hope you can find them homes. It's just so hard to give them up when you get attached. Praying you get more rain! Our rain forecast didn't pan out. Had to turn the sprinkler back on. Supposed to have rain chances for 7 days, but I willl believe it when I see it. Take care!

It cracked me up you making sure we know you're not a hunchback 😂Its like I'm watching myself on the video 😀 except I wish I was tall like you, I'm only 5ft1 😄, I wear the exact same dungarees when doing outdoor jobs like that, I used to work in a pony rescue sanctuary and I would wear those dungarees to poo pick the fields 😀 I'm looking forward to see the big purple pink sunflower! Ive never seen one that colour before, Ive had terrible luck with sunflowers no matter what I try the slugs eat most of them before they get to full grown. I had a bit of success one year when I covered pringle tubes in rough sand paper and put them around the seedlings but they still managed to munch on the leaves as they grew big, I think it must have been some other insects as well as slugs. I've done well with lavender this year which i'm glad about becuse the bees love it and for the first time in years my hydrangea finally flowered, when I planted it it was a beautiful blue but no matter where i planted it it was never happy then last year I planted it by the bird bath and I didnt realise the birds were hopping over it and pooping in the soil so that must have been like magic fertiliser or something lol because the soil grew loads of mushrooms then then it flowered so well recently! it started out blue and now it's a beautiful bright pink!! 😍🌺

The bugs seem to get me even with long pants and socks. It is much cooler here, but the promised rain has not materialized. I love that they talk back to you when you talk to them! I talk to my chickens all the time--I think they like it. So sorry Paul is being taken advantage of so badly. It is frustrating to see something like that happening and not be able to get through to them. Hope it gets better. Take care.

It sounds like Paul's stroke triggered a mid life crisis, he's an old fool, especially for not seeing how damn blessed he is to have you in his life, hopefully as time goes on he will see his blessings and get over himself. Just keep listening to your heart and your gut instinct, they wont ever steer you wrong. Keep your head up high and do not for one second let Paul think he has power over you, even in your own private thoughts know without a doubt that you are a million times better than him in every way and because you do still want to get out of there some day I truly believe an opportunity will show up for you to leave when the timing is perfect for you. In the meantime have a back up plan in case you're blindsided by certain events like if Paul moves a mail order bride into the house or something just as ridiculous and you have to leave asap, it'll make you feel less anxious knowing you have a plan. If I ever come into a tonne of money I'll be sending you a load of it so you can get the mobile home and anything else you need to travel about and do whatever makes you happy : ) If Paul ever gets around to cleaning out one of the rooms, you could use one for your own private space for whatever, art and craft or a little library or a plant nursery for indoor plants , whatever you like! : ) But for now keep focusing on the things that make you happy and know its ok to have a good old cry every now and then , it'll keep your emotions balanced and help you feel refreshed, bottling up any stress and upset can lead to physical health problems so be sure to let it all out. You could use one of the cleared out rooms as a paul is being an A -hole room where you just smash plates and stuff to vent your frustration 😃it would be very cathartic lol I'm not making light of the situation, just trying to make you laugh 🙂 Keep on talking to your dear mum and God, they will help you through this, and i'm always here if you ever want to chat or vent about stuff, you have my email if you ever need it and you always have my friendship and support whatever you decide to do, now and in the future 🙂 Remember what the fox said in the book I sent... 💗 " You know, sometimes your mind plays tricks on you. Hope everything settles down. It doesn't seem like it is a coincidence that this came up after the stroke. I understand wanting to stay and continue the life you have put 15 years into and your precious pets. He is lucky to have you and I hope he will come to his senses and appreciate you and realize he has made a mess and makes some changes. It sounds like he is being taken advantage of but doesn't see it. He needs to realize the grass isn't greener elsewhere--it's just different grass--it comes with the same troubles and complications life brings. I would likely do the same thing and stay and try to work through it. Just be sure to take care of yourself. Whatever you decide is best for you, I understand and respect. A fall garden will be a good distraction. The garden and chickens help me with depression. Having something to plan and look forward to is helpful for me. Thanks for the info on deadheading the moss rose and petunias! I have been doing the moss rose wrong. My grandma used to grow them, but she didn't really tell me anything about caring for them. I have always enjoyed them because they remind me of her. My mom has been declining the last year a lot--my dad passed away 2 years ago. She really enjoys her flower beds around her back patio--it is becoming one of the few things she enjoys anymore. I started planting it in flowers the spring Daddy became ill. I had just gotten into planting flowers from seed that year and grew a bunch for her. I am so thankful I did. It was a nice retreat area for us to sit on the patio and enjoy the flowers when caregiving and watching him struggle got too hard. I continued to plant her beds after that season. I have no idea where her day lilies came from, but she has had them forever. I want to branch out and plant some new varieties for her. I appreciate your sharing your Mom's memorial garden. My chickens love corn, but I haven't been giving because I have heard all the things people say about it making them hot. I will add it back into their snack routine. They love it--especially fresh. I find my one hen who has the most trouble with the heat seems to eat less on these hot days. They all seem to be eating less because there is less poo to spot clean in the mornings. Today was the hottest day here too. Thunderstorms coming in tomorrow afternoon with cooler temps. Thank God! Maybe I will finally get a cucumber with the rain and cool down! That is so funny about your giant cucumber! My plants do finally have some small cucumbers on them. I just planted too late and the heat is making everything struggle a little. I will make sure the plants don't have any monster cucmbers on the bottom! Laddie is so funny. He wants your full attention! My roo boy is the same! Take care, friend!

We have a few more extreme hot days and then rain and temp drop starting Thursday! I like the videos like you're doing. You don't need to feel like you have to post every day, but I enjoy watching as often as you post. It is a good diversion from all the stresses of life and everything going on in the nation and world. I also just enjoy checking in the other chicken people! I am growing eggplant, peppers, and flowers in my greenstalk. Definately take it with you. You can plant just about anything in them. Do you deadhaed your moss rose? Do you cut your petunias back when they get all spindley? Just trying to figure out what is best to do with mine. Take care, friend!

Rainstorms still freak my 11 month old chickens out. They just don't understand it's best to go to the coop. They come to the back door and call for me to help. I have to carry them one at a time to the coop in the rain. So glad you're getting some rain and a cool down. It is so nice to have a break--it is a lot of work to keep chickens cool in the scorching heat. Glad you have AC in your room. Wishing for things to improve for you. It is good that you have your garden and chickens --they are my therapy and help me get out of the house. I know they are not an answer to problems, but they are a diversion for a bit of a reprieve.Take care.

I'm so sorry you're feeling like a prisoner, is Paul trying to force you to stay despite him treating you so badly? is he refusing to buy the car he said he would buy? also if you don't mind me asking who is Will that you mentioned a while ago and what deal did you have? is he someone that could help you? I understand how you feel about your family judging you harshly making it hard to ask them for help, my family are the same with me, they all act like they're above me and they think they're all the clever, sensible ones and think I'm just the crazy bird lady who's always covered in paint!, haha! actually I quite like that description lol :D Its hard to ask people like that for help but if it comes to it and there's no other way, just ask and get what you need from them, then turn a blind eye and deaf ear to their bad behaviour, as long as you get what you need and it helps you to move closer to a happier life it'll be worth their judgy behaviour in the long run. I know that's easy for me to say and believe me it would be extremely hard for me too, but anything that gets you to a happier more peaceful life will be worth the hassle, I promise you that. I actually know a couple who separated and the ex wife now lives on the other side of the property in a mobile home, she's perfectly happy and can come and go as she pleases and never even sees the guy so its definitely an option to keep a roof over your head but do remember that your happiness and emotional well being is just as important as your physical welfare. You dont just deserve to have all the practical things like a car and a new home but more than anything you deserve to be happy and be treated with respect and kindness and love, one way or another you're going to have that kind of life, just do whatever it takes to get closer to it becuse you are the one who matters most in this whole situation. Sorry for being so nosy, feel free to tell me to shut up and stop sticking my beak in 🙂 you're fully entitled to and I won't be offended 🙂💗
