Giant Switch Dropper Post Service
zhlédnutí 11KPřed 3 lety
Please forgive me for the low production quality. Here's a video describing how to service a 2018 Giant dropper post.
So you use the removal tool to get the cranks out of the pressfit (?), but to reassemble, I do not need to use a hammer or so to get back on? So I just screw it ;)?
Just screw it in. Gotta get pretty tight. IDK the actual torque but around 40-50nm should do it.
Instead of using a hammer with the sockets, you can use bolts and washers to pull the bearings. This gives you a tool that finctions very similarly to the official tool.
Hi! So theres a difference between the two spacers between the rocker arm and the frame in the middle and the spacers for the rear of the rocker arm? And the 2 othersfor the top of the shock? Sorry for my bad english, i’ m french
the 6 small silver spacers are identical. These go on all three positions of the upper rocker arm. There are two different pairs of slightly larger, darker colored spacers that are different from each other. The tapered spacers are for the rear side of the lower rocker arm and the swing arm. The non-tapered spacers are for the front of the lower rocker arm between the rocker and the front triangle bearings.
Great video, just got a Giant Trance Advanced Pro 2 so this came in very handy. Although I have a creaking noise when I pedal hard and took the cranks out and regreased everything but still creaks.
mine too. i fear that on my personal Trance (not in the video) one of the bearing sockets might be a little out of tolerance, thus causing the creak. I just had to get over it unfortunately. It is sometimes one of the perils of full suspension.
love the video. just reaching the climax of the 2 nuts in a vice.. "Now All We Have To Do Is... i have the wrong wrench."
This is an older octalink bracket. Now Shimano offers a plastic shit only.
Thank you. I'm sick of having stupid play when braking. Oh and that's such a cool top cap 👍😊
Is there specific bolts order that we undo first when we disasemble the rear triangle while everything is on frame. I wanted to ask is there any tension while the shox is in place is any of the bolts gonna have tension on them, just so i dont damage threads while trying to undo them. Thank u
🫵🔝
Excellent video. Can you please tell me what king of grease you’re using to install bearings. Thanks
It looks like he is using the standard Park Tool grease 12:37 . I wonder if this is correct though. Pivot Bikes recommends using Loctite 609 Retaining compound to hold the bearing firm in the hole. Seems to be somewhat of a standard use for retaining compound from my limited research.
That is a great video - so well explained and easy to understand! Thank you.
thanks a lot! I enjoyed watching your video and following the clear instructions!
Xellent
Does it have the same parts as the reing sx 2022? I need to maintain the swingarm and I can't find the service manual.
Thanks so much.
thanks, i have a road bike rear wheel to do so hoping this helps
Would you happen to know the type of bolt for the trunnion mount? M10 x 1 x 17mm (18mm head) for example. Trying to track down one bolt without having to buy the entire rebuild kit.
I highly recommend you do not try to use some other bolt. This is machined specifically for this purpose to the precise tolerance needed. It also has things like the specific shoulder that contacts the inner race of the bearing when installed.
those are nuts not bolts. cmon man!!😂
I have a 2015 Trance and this last spring (2023) I rebuilt the frame for the third time.Sooner or later it will be time to move on but that bike has been so great and the frame still works great since I take care of it. I think I still like the Maestro the best out of what’s out there and they can last a long time.
Thanks a bunch
Does the bearing kit work on all models or is it certain models
Great video! helped me out in my Anthem 2016 rebuilt process. Thanks for posting
This is an excellent video! Thank you so much for the info! Spare parts information on Giant bikes is not the best. I was checking the Dealers Only Tech Manual and not even there apears the exact bearing sizes for spares -only the kit codes. So, if I understood correctly, if I want to replace all the bearings in the rear shock/pivot area, I'll need to buy 6 pairs of bearings: - For the lower linkage, I'll need 2 pairs of 6802 (lower shock mount & front of the lower swing arm) and 1 pair of 6902 (back of the lower swing arm attaching to the chain stay). - For the rock arm, I'll need 1 pair of 63800 (upper shock mount) and 2 pairs of 6900 (back of the rock arm attaching to the seat stay & rock arm frame pivot). Btw, on other videos they recommend puting the berings in the freezer for 1-2 hours before installation. Apparently that way it's possible to install them without a bearing press!! Cheers!
This was exactly the video I was hoping to find, thank you!
I've been searching for a video like this. I have a 2018 Trance Advanced 2 that needs new headset bearings (upper and lower), it feels 'scratchy' when I spin the bars. Any advice on a good websites in the US where I can purchase a bearing replacement kit?
I'm such a curmudgeon - anyone else annoyed at the constant spinning of the parts?
Since when do we just drop bearings in loosely like that? I must be way out of touch I guess.
Thanks!!!😊
Where can I buy for a giant trance 2022 ?
Can someone tell me what size that axle nuts please?
With to much greese the balls push/ plow thru the greese instead of roiling around in it .
Those are called "nuts" there are no bolts.
What size are those axle nuts? Please trying to buy online idk my size do I need for my mtb
@@SBATHORGOD I believe there 12 mm they are standard
@@Dopeassbikevids what? 10m is the standard sir. What do you mean 12m is standard 😂 come on now
Some hubs on some frames need a bit of preload looseness. Then, once tightened into the frame the looseness goes away. Without this preload looseness the bearings are just too tight. Would be nice to address this topic, but still a good video.
Calvin shows that in this video very well czcams.com/video/Uxi7wTRGfZM/video.html. Not sure if its only related to Quick release, or also to these "bolt-tightened" axls.
Excellent …The Best yet!!!
Richard sup dude thanks for the info very informative to the point “A” I really need that special tool to extract the cranks ✌🏽
😂😂😂 love the custom sound effects. The "zschoop" when you were putting the stem together had me laughing
😂😂😂 yes
Thanks for the video-- very informative. Could you tell me where you are able to find replacement parts for Giant Maestro Suspension- Bolts , etc.
Hey there, can you by any chance give me the measurements of those spacers at 11:00 right as you mention that its a common mistake to forget them :D I bought a giant trace 29 2020 used and it seems like the previous owner didnt install them when he changed the shock.
same here, bought a 2018 reign and it didnt have any spacers
That Spacer called bleed block.😉
Hi I have just replaced the pivot bearings on my 2019 Reign 2 and there is a slight gap left between the chainstay links and where it joins the rocker arm on each side. The bearings look like they are seated all the way in and flush and there is a spacer between the bearing and rocker arm on both sides. The bolts are torqued up to the recommended 15nm too. Am I missing something? Any help appreciated
Great explanation and to the point, thanks very much. I am doing some "spring cleaning" on my mtb and decided to replace my bearings since the bike has been creaking some. Do you recommend specific brands and/or do you know the easiest way to shop for them?
I am a Giant dealer so I typically buy the kit that includes bearings, spacers and pins. If you would like to replace individual bearings. Enduro Max bearings are the go-to. Just make sure the size codes match.
Many thanks, keep up with the vids!
My dropper post doesn’t go down it stays on top of the compression ring 😏 it’s like stuck inside the post 🙈
Hi, first of all thanks for the video! at minute 11:00 you show how to mount the upper part of the shock (trunnion part) and you show the two grey spacers to insert before connecting the shock. the problem i have is that when i add the spacers the shock won’t fit in, do you have any advice for this problem?
Yes. This is a common issue. Start by trying to install the shock to the upper rocker with the rocker disconnected from everything else. If that doesn't work, you need to press out the bearings ever so slightly. It is easiest to do with the maestro kit I use in the video.
@@richardsbikeshop5268 thank you, i’ve managed to install it but it was an hard job.
Thanks, Richard. I’m getting ready to install a pair of MT-BR520 calipers, and your video was clear, concise, and helpful. 👍
Both tapered washers fell out, and your video saved me...Thanks!
Same here, they fell out before I could see which way they were in. I guessed, and then looked at this video. (I had guessed correctly, but good to know).
what is the magnet? I checked on Park tool's website and couldn't find it.
It's their pick set. They have magnets on one end and I find them very helpful. They are also the most durable picks I've used.
@@richardsbikeshop5268 do you have the code?

I need to know how the middle bolt comes out that runs thru the seatpost?? Seems like I can just tap it out but I've tried and doesn't seem to be budging 😢
If it isnt coming out, it might be pinched in or corroded in place
@skitz502 must be pinched somehow I have a Crack in the Seatpost where the linkage runs thru...appreciate the quick feedback
Hello. May I ask for the details of the spacers on the lower shock mount? the wide black ones. my Goant reign x1 has missing spacer in the lower mount.😭 Thank you.

Hi Richard, What tool is that for removal? I didn't do my homework and ordered the 8 keyed one for the outside that will of course only work on the 1 side.😐 The Park Tool finder isn't very clear and doesn't have a category for these older splined BB.
NM I think I found it. Thanks! Video helps to clarify!!
