    An excellent, detailed and informative video. Thank you. As for the spindle itself - I usually apply a thin layer of grease all over the spindle body before assembling it back into the shell. It protects it from moisture that penetrates inside. Plus, it never hurts to take the opportunity and spray grease spray into the chassis, especially when it's a chromoly one

    This is such a helpful video! I got a BB7700/7710 Bottom bracket on my Lemond Poprad 04. It's coming off for some external BBs and a new 110BCD crankset.
    Going to sell all the old parts to recoup some money.

    Thanks a lot the video was very instructive clear cut and home mechanic friendly I always have time with the lefty righty on which side is which and this cleared it up for me real well gave me those inside comments about what surface goes to what surface and what has to be clean. Good job thanks again.

    Hey Richard, I really appreciate for the very informative video. I've seen some of articles, manuals, and YT videos about Octalink installation, your video is the best imo. I am going to work on my bike soon, I will definitely follow your instruction man. Thanks!

    A bit of grease on the spindle crank interface is good idea. They are dissimilar metals which will cause galvanic corrosion. Grease arrest that corrosion.

    Hi. This video is excellent and very thorough thanks. I have a question as to weather the Octalink 105 5500 series BB can be upgraded to a Shimano Hollowtech II?

    • @richardsbikeshop5268
      @richardsbikeshop5268  Před rokem

      It 100% can. You will need a BSA threaded bottom bracket and new crankset.

  • @velocitydreamer
    @velocitydreamer Před rokem

    My drive side is nnnnnot coming out (turning clockwise). I'm afraid it's fused or something. I tried a breaker w/ rubber mallet. I even tried PB Blaster and a crappy impact I had, it is not wanting to come out. Any recommendations? I don't believe the bottom bracket is entirely shot, just wanted to change it out while there since I have a new one.

    • @richardsbikeshop5268
      @richardsbikeshop5268  Před rokem +1

      Get yourself a long bolt that fits into the threads of the spindle and bolt the tool to the BB via the hole in the middle. You should be able to put a large breaker bar and go crazy. We have had some in our shop that the impact was unable to budge but we were able to eventually remove this way. Bolting the tool on is often necessary because of the one-sided torque from a breaker bar. It can easily cause the tool to lose purchase on the splines and pop off.
      Hope this helps.

    Hi Richard, What tool is that for removal? I didn't do my homework and ordered the 8 keyed one for the outside that will of course only work on the 1 side.😐 The Park Tool finder isn't very clear and doesn't have a category for these older splined BB.

    So you use the removal tool to get the cranks out of the pressfit (?), but to reassemble, I do not need to use a hammer or so to get back on? So I just screw it ;)?

    • @skitz502
      @skitz502 Před 11 dny +1

      Just screw it in. Gotta get pretty tight. IDK the actual torque but around 40-50nm should do it.

      It depends where the play is coming from and if you have access to the bearings. If you are able to remove and feel for play in the bearings it might save you a couple of bucks.
