    I have an old 1962 Mercury 850 85hp 6 cylinder power head from a merc. Same block idea basically. I’ll never use it I should post it somewhere it runs!

    So this is why Yamaha discontinued the F-350. I’ve been saying they need to take the XTO platform and do a 350 and then a 500 to compete with Mercurys V-12 500 & 600 Verado’s! The fact that Mercury has lower gear case steering is a huge advantage over Yamaha. The other thing is Yamaha in the higher HP range causes underpowered boats. Look at Pursuit Boats, look at the top end. They can barely reach 60mph although they manage to get a roughly 30mph cruise. I think they could get better top end and cruise with a 350 Yamaha rather than a 300 or even triple 300s. I mean you could save a ton of money buying 2 engines vs 3.

    I had two outboard yamahas! We went years without problems. Our brand new mercury has a check engine signal in just months of use. Like the saying goes, Mercury will get you there quicker but yamaha will get you back.

    Maybe if you'd actually put the engines into gear like your supposed to, and not budge the throttle you'll see how smooth the shifting is.

    Have you not heard the mercury shift?? Besides Yamaha aren’t made for performance they are made for reliability, clearly you haven’t heard Mercury’s steering it makes the same noise, are Yamaha actually doesn’t, and I get my 6 year warranty with Yamaha

    • @kirkbready3848
      @kirkbready3848 Před 7 lety

      That was the first thing that jumped out at me - reduction of aerodynamic drag is an obvious solution for anyone who has ever ridden a motorcycle or stuck their hand into the windstream outside an automobile window. The slick profile of the Mercury motor helped but beyond that, the pilot's instinctive crouch was the only concession to streamlining. A lightweight, inexpensive fairing would probably have considerably improved top end. Maybe the sanctioning body required an open cockpit to qualify for the competition ?

    • @Slicklickz
      @Slicklickz Před 7 lety

      The stock 75a was 60 HP at 5k rpm.A jacked up 75H(hydroplane) ran on methanol and could turn up to 10K.The final evolution of the inline 6 was the T2X,and a good factory qualifying motor could exceed 200 HP.

    That whining noise on the wheel is the power steering pump that hasnt been installed correctly. The noisy gear changes are because it hasn't got the proper prop spacers the merc will hole shot better because of the weight differace but the v8s are doing it easy while the mercurys are driven hard all the time using alot more fuel. Verados are troublesome expecially the gearboxes. Verado do a beefier gearbox that also doubles fuel consuption. The person who made this video is a silly yank who don't belive another country can make a better thing. Arrogant yanks!

      +18Christopher Ravosa, exactly what I was thinking, double my ass... I have 1480 hrs on a 05 275 Vrod on a 25' single Fountain CC. I run 58 MPH at 30 Gph WOT (4 blade rev 4 prop. Cruise is 10 Gph @ 38 MPH. I haven't had any problems out of the gear case, and I have only had 1 problem, supercharger cap ($800), in 11 years of running the balls off it. I hate to see the computer readout of the percentages spent at certian rpms... This Nov I'm repowering with a 350 Vrod and a torque master lower, I'm gonna do an elaborate before and after video. Oh, I raced an identical hull at the boat races this year and it had a 300 Yamaha, wasn't even comparable.
