Dynamic Accumulators?
zhlédnutí 1,5KPřed 8 lety
This video is about Dynamic Accumulators. Dynamic accumulators are those plants that are thought to gather more nutrient(s) than other plants. For example, dandelions are supposed gather more calcium than other plants. People often assume that this is due to the taproot. The focus is on whether or not the extra nutrients are gathered by the deep roots (often thought to be taproots) or the more ...

    Surely it depends on what you're growing? Your examples focus on perennials, which tend to prefer woody mulches benefiting fungi. Annuals are different, they tend to prefer (mature) compost rich in available nitrogen.

Phosphogypsum, a waste byproduct of phosphate fertilizer mining, “emits radon, a radioactive gas,” and contains uranium, thorium and radium, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Radon is “potentially cancer-causing,” an EPA spokesperson told CBS News. This is what I was referring to when talking about the radioactive tailings.

    Neighbors across the street are restoring a house before the owner returns next year to occupy it. That includes the landscape and recently they cured a problem area of the front yard, right next to the driveway --- a bare patch waiting for something next to the neighbor's front lawn. They planted nasturtiums and quickly they filled in the area, roughly three feet by ten. What was wonderful about watching the nasties take over that plot was how well they fit in, stopping right at the edges of the lawn and driveway.

    One more thing about gathering nettles: it can be done WITHOUT gloves. But, very gingerly these gloves must be done without! Instead do this: Approach a nettle stem from the top and push your fingers downward into the stem before breaking it off. That way the stinging juice won't penetrate into you from the spear-points of the nettle necks ...

    Robert, Thank you for your informative video. Would you please help me give some guide line about the following matters? I would like to convert one of my sprinkler zones to dripping system (in other words it could be micro sprinkler system). There are 4 rotor sprinkler (Rain Bird 5000 and 42SA) and one flower bed sprayer in that zone. I would like to convert 3 of those Rain Bird rotors to drip irrigation for watering my plants. One of them will water about 25 plants, other one is about 50 plants, and the third one will water about 10 plants and two raised beds (4'X12' each). Would you please suggest me how I can do this? I appreciate your help. Thank you.

      It is actually a wrong direction? These filters should have an arrow that indicates the direction of the flow.

    • @residentmanager3088
      @residentmanager3088 Před 2 lety

      @@tmmyjay You may be correct if that filter connected to the anti- siphon valve is a “disc” filter. After a ton of research and completely wasting my evening on this, I found the angle of the filter depends on the type of filter (screen vs disc). The common consumer irrigation filters you see in a general hardware store are screen filters. Screens are easier to clean, less expensive, and can filter solids and silt which the Disc cannot. But screens are not as efficient as the Disc filter at cleaning bacteria, algae and sludge. The Disc filters are more expensive, more time consuming to clean. If you are using city water, screen filters are the way to go. Also: Screen filters: the filter angles 45degrees from the flow of water. Disc filters: the filter angles backwards or 135 degrees from the flow of water. An arrow should be on the filter for the direction of the water. If the filter on this video is a disc filter, then it is correctly installed. Also, you can save 15% if you switch to Geico. 😆

    Great information, since moving in the direction of permaculture I have a new found love and respect for the so called "weed." I was out in the yard, and I realized that the only thing edible in my yard was a dandelion. I have since started using red clover and Chicory as a green manure to push grass and weeds out and to naturally fertilize. I've planted everything I can get my hands on to create biodiversity; fruit trees, berry bushes, nut trees and nitrogen accumulators. The biggest effect was letting my fence-line go feral...my bird population is up 100 fold. Simply amazing how the earth will move in a direction to repair itself.

    Nurseries that still have true "bare root" fruit trees in mulch are becoming harder to find. So many fruit trees available in Jan-Feb are either already in pots or sealed in plastic. Still, you can check for a healthy bud union.

    • @residentmanager3088
      @residentmanager3088 Před 2 lety

      @@alexandermearle Screen filters are simple. Just unscrew and rinse out screen. My advice Is to buy a metal screen and not a plastic one which tend to break. The disc filters will take more time to clean since you will need to scrub them in water to remove the filth in between all the discs. If you are using city water, screen filters will always work and are less expensive than Disc filters. Disc filters are effective for removing sludge, bacteria and slime … in other words, use a disc filter if you are pulling water from a dirty well or from a reservoir pond.
