    are there any Singer machines that are very reliable high quality, with very good quality button hole making and sewing buttons?

    • @behindtheseamswithjess
      @behindtheseamswithjess Před dnem

      This is the only singer I have experience with, but most mid range domestic machines are fine for button holes!

    Is this machine able to do leather like the 5523 is advertising. I'm a beginner looking for my first machine (after making my first skirt on a friends machine) but i'm wanting to make a lot of Steampunk projects. So need to be able to work with all fabric types.

    • @behindtheseamswithjess
      @behindtheseamswithjess Před 10 dny

      I haven’t personally used leather with it, although I feel like I might have seen a video showing that? The most I have worked with is 6 layers of denim 😂 but you may be looking at a semi or full industrial machine if you plan to work with a lot of heavy textiles!

    Hi, I have this machine and sew fairly heavy stuff at 4.5mm stitch length with it. It is good except that the backstitch seems to be only one length ...2mm, almost the shortest length the machine sews, so it is impossible to reverse into the same holes unless set to 2. Have you found this, or possibly discovered how to make them match?

    • @behindtheseamswithjess
      @behindtheseamswithjess Před 3 měsíci

      Oh how strange! I haven’t noticed this but I don’t change my stitch length often unless I’m just popping in a basting stitch, so mine may be the same Have you tried just changing the stitch length to 0 and doing a few stitches on the spot instead of reversing if this is for back tacking?

    • @jjaylad
      @jjaylad Před 2 měsíci

      @behindtheseamswithjess iI do use the tie off, which does work, although at the end of a seam in heavyweight material, I prefer to reverse and forward to make it strong. For now, I'm doing two tie offs separated by a stitch. Seems pretty strong that way.

      Oooh that sounds pretty! From memory they were both thrifted from the sewing basket in Sydney! My local spotlight has piping, but it was expensive. I actually had to make some extra as I ran out, it can be done by sewing thin rope between a piece of bias tape or ribbon! For interesting belt buckles, I usually like Etsy if I can’t find one in a second hand store. Most standard belt buckles online are too boring! Etsy will have a few it you search for “decorative belt buckles”, although they do end up being a bit pricey!

    I just ordered this machine (currently have three fully restored No.6 treadle machines and a No.66, but are display pieces), and am completely new to machine sewing. I am an American Revolutionary Reenactor, and want to make my own hybrid (machine sewn hidden seams, hand stitched visible seams) frocks/coats, and was curious if this machine will handle a nice, heavy wool that we use for our coats? Thanks in advance. My last sewing project was a completely hand sewn, lined, all wool regimental cloak.... never again. Haha

      Ohhh all that hand sewing would have been taxing! I haven’t sewn wool yet (just purchased a lovely wool cashmere blend though!) I think it would be best to test a sample of the thick fabrics you are going to work with on a demo machine if possible!

    Your creation is far more beautifully constructed than the expensive luxury rtw.

    I wonder how the seams in an original Zimmerman dress are finished? Would you have any idea?

      Ohh it’s been a while since I’ve looked at that style in the store to remember! 😫

    I have just purchased this pattern and bought my linen material. I'm wondering if the sizes are true to size. I'm normally a size small but am measuring more a medium according to your instructions. Should I make it in the medium? Also, it says 6cm width elastic, is that meant to be 6mm?

      Hi! Patterns won’t always correlate back to your standard sizing, so definitely go by measurements instead 🙂 the pre-sewing guide has instructions on finding your best size! Thank you for notifying me of the mistake! Correct, I meant to say 6mm 😜

    Hi Jessica. I came across your channel via a Facebook sewing group and am glad that I did. I have started to look into drafting my own patterns due to having a non-standard body shape (big chested so nothing normally fits correctly). You have given me so much hope that anything is possible. Keep up your mojo because you never know who you are inspiring.

      Oh wow, what a lovely comment! You will love drafting your own patterns, it’s tricky at first but you soon realise you are completely unlimited in design! I’ll get back to posting/sewing shortly, just moved states and need to set up my new sewing room! 😜

      You may have to take your machine to a service technician to be looked at 😞 I’m not sure if I would be able to help much, sorry!
