This channel is about fish tanks, fish, shrimps, plants, fish breeding and feeding and other aquarium related stuff. I am a blogger, photographer, author and film maker. Most of the aquarium films are captured in my own aquarium room. Mainly I'm interested in running my tanks as biologically well balanced as possible - by focusing on biologic filtration, and well growing plants.
Northern Mountain swordtail - scaping a river tank
Today we will show you how one of the tanks in the green wall, went from a total muddy swamp… to a flowing mountain stream - and was transformed into a new home for the beautiful wild form Mexican Swordtail, the Xiphophorus nezahualcoyotl.
It turned out to be way more than a redecorating, and ended up as a rather long video. In reality the process was done over a couple of weeks. If you wanna hang on to the end, and see all the details, you are gonna spend something like 25 minutes. So grab a cup of coffee, tea or something stronger and lean back. Hope you enjoy it.
Cheers, Ulla and Michael

In this video we show how this tank was scaped initially and how it gradually has changed over a period of 3 years. Hope you enjoy it! Thanks for watching. Fish room touchdown No. 1 - Japan Blue Gold Body Guppy

Today let’s take a closer look into one of the tanks in the green wall. We go to this 24-gallon tank, that has been running for at least 5 years by now. So it is a mature and smooth running tank. The substrate is ordinary aquarium gravel. The filter is a sponge filter, the light is a cheap 10W floodlight and I use a DIY CO2 system made out of a plastic sodastream bottle. The fish, shrimps and s...

Norman's Lampeyes - How we built a shoal of these

The Norman’s Lampeye Killifish or Poropanchax normani is just a beautiful little fish. It happens to be shoaling, and it is a great tankmate for shrimps. 3-4 years ago, the first group of Normann’s moved into our fishroom. They vent into a small 8-gallon tank together with a colony of Red Cherry Shrimps - and we made a video on this setup back then. The strain disappeared again, since we didn’t...

It’s storytelling time. After that we take a look at the golden orange form, that was created by German aquarium fish breeder Hjerresin in the 1950’s. Along the way I show you how Ulla and I keep ...
DIY - How to make a spawning mop for fish breeding

If you want to breed killifish, rainbow fish, tetras, barbs or other egg laying aquarium fish, a spawning mop comes in real handy. Wonderful tank! Also I wanted to compliment you separately on your video production in general. They are really great videos to watch! :)
Thanks a lot for your feedback. The video production is a teamwork. I do the filming and narration and my wife Ulla does the cutting and editing. Cheers, Michael 🙂
Da hast du ja fast ein eigenen Zooladen zuhause ...😂.. Echt schöne Steine hast du da gesammelt! 👍
😀Yes, I guess we have a lot of tanks. Collecting hardscape in nature is a cool addition to this hobby. Cheers, Michael 🙂
The scape is nicely done with a good choice on the swordtails.
Thanks Robert. Yes those swordtails are nice. Cheers, Michael 🙂
Nicely done. I really enjoy watching this type of video, thanks! That beach segment was incredible. You live in a beautiful place. Big fan of your channel from the US.
Russ, thanks a lot for your feedback and your support. Glad to have you onboard the channel. Cheers, Michael 🙂
I enjoy ur aquariums. U are so talanted. Wish all the best so u can continue. Ur tanks are so peaceful.
Hi Mike. Thanks a lot for your support and feedback. It's much appreciated. Cheers, Michael :0)
Man , i was looking for really small fish to get rid of mosquito larvae on my shrimp only tank , then this video come out of nowhere 😂.
Thanks for your feedback. Cheers, Michael :0)
Along with wild daphnia, various parasites and diseases can be introduced into an aquarium with fish 🫣
You are right about that, but I have been feeding my fish dapnia, mosquito larvae, copepods and other live foods for 4 decades without any major problems. I will rather have lively, happy fish that breed and are strong enogh to fight of any deceise - than fish that live a boring life in a sterile and safe environment. I will leave you with this quote: "Life is inherently risky. There is only one big risk you should avoid at all costs, and that is the risk of doing nothing." Cheers, Michael :0)
thanks for the tips! do you reckon it would work if i put the wood in the fridge after applying the paste, instead of putting it in the oven?
It might work, but I haven't tried that. I think it should go in the oven first, so it dries up, before it goes in the fridge. Cheers, Michael :0)
Using a mesh is a brilliant idea! Thank you for sharing this. :)
Thanks a lot. Cheers, Michael :0)
What are the alternatives to potato mix. Can I use bread
Yes you can. Bread, oatmeal and several other things will work as well. Cheers, Michael :0)
Can do do well in a tank without a pump
Yes no problem, unless you have too many fish in the tank. Cheers, Michael :0)
Amazing!!
Thanks :0)
Lovely Fin Nippers !
They are lovely. Have never experienced any fin nipping with these fish, though. Cheers Michael :0)
Beautiful shrimp and aquarium! I need shrimp sticks :)
Thanks. Your shrimps will love them. 🙂
Excellent images.
Thank a lot, Robert. 🙂
Look at those planter tanks, dammmmmmmm
I'm glad you like them. Thanks for your feedback. Cheers, Michael :0)
I have a school of young black ruby barbs they are beautiful fish. I love how dark black the males get with the deep reds! Barbs get a bad rap. They are great fish. My ruby's are with snakeskin barbs and emerald eye rasboras in a 33 long 🙂
Hard not to love barbs. Cheers, Michael :0)
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it. Cheers, Michael :0)
Ur accent is hot bro 😊
Thanks a lot :D Cheers, Michael :0)
Pure beauty! Love these fish. When you moved them into the breeding tank was it one male and a female? Cheers
Thanks. I used a a couple of males and 4 females in the same tank. So group spawning i guess. Cheers, Michael :0)
@@MichaelJensensAquarium lovely!thank you. I have only one female unfortunately but will try to get more.
Punya saya ikannya diatas permukaan air terus kenapa
Hi. Maybe there is an error in the Google translation, but that sounds like a real bad place for a fish to be. 🙂
Superb knowledge and Demonstration
Glad you liked it. Cheers, Michael :0)
Woke up today to my dead red killi .. got him 10 days ago and he seemed healthy .. was eating too. 🤔
That sucks. Hope you have others. Cheers, Michael :0)
Very helpful, thank you.
You're welcome! Cheers, Michael :0)
Great video. Which types of killifish stay closest to the top of the aquarium in your experience?
Thanks. All of the Epiplatys and Aplochelius species will stay right at the top most of the time: Golden Wonder, Epiplatys dageti, annulatus and a lot of others. Cheers, Michael :0)
Can these live in a 10 gallon??
You can breed these fish in a 10 gallon tank no problem. But the need more space to live in. Cheers, Michael
Hi Michael, very nice tank. What species of plants did you include in the tank?
Thanks. The plants are vallisneria, hornswort... and a lot of willow moss. Cheers, Michael :0)
Do you think it is possible to include them together with other types of killifish in a 60 liter aquarium? if so which ones? Killifish are very interesting to me! Are these fish shy towards humans and what happens around the tank? Is it possible to include them together with some type of barbel? Excuse my English
Hi Anna Maria. Most killifish will do well together as long as they are relatively equal in size and temperament. They usually respons well to activity outside the tank, and will show up when you come near the tank (begging for food). I have never kept killis with barbs, and I don't think this is a good idea. Most babs are very active. Cheers, Michael :0)
Really good looking tank!!
Thanks a lot for your feedback. Cheers, Michael :0)
I'm sorta new to fish keeping maybe 5 months in. I really like them but I hear they only live a couple of years.. I have 5 tanks now which are dirted tanks except for one which is an all mbuna tank. I'm definitely thinking about getting some. How often do they breed to sustain a colony?
Absolutely love your videos! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you so much! Cheers, Michael :0)
How much can I have in a 5.5 gallon planted tank ?
Hello, what's up friend, a question, the KILLIFISH could be in a community with the PSEUDOMUGIL, very grateful for your answer, greetings from Lima Perú
Very nice
Thanks. Cheers, Michael :0)
Nice
Thanks for your feedback. Cheers, Michael :0)
I just picked up a pair of small Orange Australe, they’ve quickly become my favourite fish
I see some cherry shrimp too. Are they able to breed with the tetras? Or will the tetras eat all the baby shrimp
These are great fish! I have 9 in a 75 gallon tank but the 2 angelfish and a gold severum tankmates eliminate the chance of any potential fry. 😮💨
Thanks a lot for making and sharing this video! It is a fantastically beautiful fish and I have heard about it for the first time from your video! Thanks!
❤ Great video ❤ thx 😊
Glad you enjoyed it. Cheers, Michael :0)
Very nice. Almost looks AI generated. Thank you for sharing
Haha, no AI there. Just good old faschion camera work. Thanks. Cheers, Michael 😀
How is the sex ratio of your fry?
Hi Marvin. As I recall it was more or less 50/50. Cheers, Michael :0)
