Deaf Parents: Voice with Hearing Children?
I am willingly enrolling online for courses to educate me so I can use my hearing privilege for the deaf community.
I LOVED YOUR CLARIFY EXPLANATION ! My hearing parents never taught me that way!
Oh gee I was watching your video I cannot find Italian sign language book I am going to visit Italy in 2020 in Naples and want to try meeting deaf there how??
Deaf parents had hearing kids will become our ASL interceptors for their jobs , schools or churches. DETROIT!!!!
I think even if you haven’t been signing for 15 years this is good advice. Anytime you add speech to your sign whether you’re new or an advance signer it stunts your ASL language growth. That’s my opinion.
I told my friend that the cloud weith like average 300 tons(300,000 kg) but after I told he laughed at me and said that it is not right. We told soon to the fysic teacher if it is right or fault and he said that it is fault but I still believe that the clouds are heavy.
I found this ages ago when it was first uploaded -- still one of the best things ever. :-)
Can somebody please address the question: Where is Awti??
Thanks for the CC! Hearing students seriously appreciate them!
nice story
This is the first video of yours I've seen. Dude, you are awesome! I laughed so much while watching this. Very enjoyable. :D
Clouds are heavy... Some can weight for tonnes....
Some hearing parents may not take the time to learn asl for their deaf kids but why don't we look at it in the same way when deaf parents don't take the time to learn English for their hearing children? I as a coda have always wondered why this is this way.. it isn't fair honestly.
Thank you so much for this very timely video. Because I have struggled with my receptive skills, I often shy away from sign only conversations or even in my teaching. However, I accept the challenge effective IMMEDIATELY! Thanks so much for pushing us/me to improve.
You are the best ASL teacher. Your create interesting and informative content which is relevant, while speaking or adding captions (which seem to sync perfectly with the signs without lag)! I'm an ASL student and I'm glad I found your channel. Keep up the great work!
As a CODA myself, my mother used SIM-COM growing up. I had never known any different, but always felt a disconnect in both worlds. It honestly wasn't until this year when I started college to become an interpreter that I realized how lost I actually felt. I'm not blaming, I just fully understood what this video was about. I felt it down to my core. This are much different now that I'm an adult. I do not use my voice at all when signing, now that I understand the importance of not mixing languages.
The point you made about hearing mind and deaf mind being different is important. However it may also be important to include the more recent studies that CODA's have been shown to not think like deaf or hearing which can make them feel very misunderstood and isolated. Thanks for the great video, keep it up!
Totalmente de acuerdo, I'm Coda Spain, entiendo ASL pero si puedes poner subtitulos para mi mejor. Thank you
Honestly, sometimes I hit a wall when I communicate in English have to resort to ASL to get my point across.
Your signing is beautiful... but your English translation of your ASL story is just as amazing! You used great adjectives and great use of vocabulary to really paint the picture in English what you were saying in ASL!!! Nice story !
I am hard of hearing and the only time I have stepped in was to help a deaf customer at Wal-Mart. I, myself was doing some shopping and had seen this woman trying to get some help from employees. Finally, after getting angry myself, I saw an employee walk by. The deaf woman tried to get her attention to no avail. I walked up to the employee and told them that this nice lady needs some help. I was informed that they didn't see anyone needing help. At this point, I took a deep breath and using sign and voice told them the deaf woman is needing help. I asked the woman what she was looking for and told me. I intyrn told the employee and with a huff went to show the lady what she was looking for. The lady thanked me and I went to management. I told them that their employees need to be more mindful of others. When I asked why I told them. They were writing as fast as they could to get all the information. Since I knew one of the managers, i even added, if this problem continues, I won't be shopping here any longer. Now, they have a deaf employee, and I stop to say hello when she she works.
I think this popped up in my feed last year or the year before and I just wasnt ready for it. Now a year doesnt seem like a lot but mentally it is a lot. I'm glad this popped up again. My brain is finally cleared out and able to recieve and accept this. So useful.
*they started it*
So I gotta mix fire with ice penut butter Cole and pressure allot of it and I get me a real Damm dimaond
So amazing!!!!!!
There is no voicing in much of the video this has eliminated many people from getting the message. Many do not sign ( they need the information). Many do not have visual equity to read captions or English is second language for them they hear and speak it but do not read it; Please make all the video's information accessible for everyone. Thanks :)
You need to click on the CC button to active the captions. They have been there all along.
Why not use subtitles
I appreciate your work pleasw keep it up.
For some reason, when the video started out, it was muted. And I'm just sitting here watching it with no sound 😂😂 I didn't even realize it was being interpreted!
It's not dimond

A deaf and/or mute youtube ch. - how is it ive never seen that before
it's the coals that turn into diamonds, not peanut butter, dumbasses. Hence coal mines :/
Amazing vid 🌹👍
Are you serious? i mean, how do you sign hypocrite? Look, you make some good arguments but to be honest. That man paid for his ASL lessons. How he chooses to use them is totally his decision. Now you can always try to reason with him and show ways he can support the '" ASL" community. Besides I never heard of an ASL community and ASL power. It's ridiculous and to assert some sort of ASL privilege is offensive. I'm a CODA too and think you're being hypocritical . Don't you profit form the ASL work you do and the CZcams Videos you make??

Hi awfi, i have a question for a deaf friend , maybe you can help. HELP PLEASE!! I am doing power point presentation project for a class of mine. I have Apple laptop. I also have iPhone. I have to take video of myself explaining what my PP presentation is all about. I also have to add subtitles. So what is the easy program/app to use that I can take video on my iPhone then add subtitles then upload into the PP on one of the slides. I have been struggling with that- There was one that my teacher suggested me to use and its too complicated. blah! Thanks in advanced!!
I walked into a bar to meet some friends and instead of meeting them I was in awe of what I was seeing. Probably 50 people signing througout the bar. Immediately I walked up to a group and tried asking about it and was met with kindness, patience and no talking. That was such a unique and empowering experience. I spent over an hour there being taught sign and I LOVED it. So this morning I’m looking up videos and am wondering was proper sign ediquitte is. Is there anything insulting, group, irritating that people new to sign do that I could avoid? Anything I should know ASAP?

I am an english speaker but also speak french and polish somewhat fluently. I can't imagine what would happen if I tried to speak english while trying to write down everything I said in french at the same time. Most likely I would make a lot of mistakes in both languages (especially in french since I don't speak it as well as english). Very best case scenario I would talk and write in slow motion with a lot of pauses. I didn't learn french or polish that way (because it would be nuts!). I learned them by using different languages at different parts of the day.
Also, my parents speak english fluently after so many years in Canada, but I still sometimes feel like I'm seeing more of their true sense of humour and ideas when they speak Polish... I'm very glad I can understand them when they speak their first language. Whatever you do make sure you and your kids can understand each other well!

Click the "cc" button in the right-hand bottom corner of the video. Captions have been there since Oct 3, 2014. You posted your oddly aggressive comment and hashtag in July 2018. Seems you need to work out some personal issues.
Great video! I’m hearing and I know ASL. I believe ASL is a very important language to knowledge, I learned the Language back in High School from my 2 friends one Deaf and the other one Hard Of Hearing from High School. I have a great passion for the Language. I’ll be teaching my kids the Language. I’ll be teaching the Deaf Community come on to my channel videos uploading soon.
