Looks are in the eye of the beholder of course, the series 1 is generally regarded as the prettiest of the 124 coupes , although I quite like the series 2. In the handling department, the series 1 is undoubtedly the finest of the 124 coupes. The later cars were slightly heavier but had more understeer built in to the suspension set up . It failed because it was simply horrendous - looked cheap and nasty - and appeared like a stretched Alpine. At school we laughed at how stupid people could be thinking anyone with "money" would buy such nonsense. Why would i go to a Talbot garage - surrounded by a Sunbeam or Avenger - when it was priced in merc / volvo / bmw territory?

I worked at a Fiat dealership in the mid 70’s and drove the 1800 twin cam versions. It was beautiful, exciting and sounded great. I have been fortunate to drive a lot of cars in my years, this one always stands out.

I saw this car today at the Saratoga Automobile Museum in upstate NY. Absolutely gorgeous car.

Love exotic hatches, shooting brakes and wagons. The world would be a better place with more of these on the road. The lucky few who appreciate them have my 💘.

Use to own one. High torque..doesnt need to chsnge gear on winding hilly road. 0 to 100kph under 10 sec. Top speed 110mph. Fun driving it on winding road. Good acceleration while driving fast and fast overtaking . Fill like an amateur racer..

These inexpensive European cars from the 60s and 70s are my all time favorites. I'm from the United States, but where I grew up these were more suited to our narrow, curvy roads in New England. Yes, I did have one it was so much fun! I love Fiats, and it was perfectly reliable as well.

I had a '73 almost identical to this car - even the color. Just loved driving it. The biggest downfall...rust. The second biggest downfall...in very cold weather the carb. would freeze up and you were done. I had to put cardboard in the grill to try to keep the cold out of the engine compartment. Great 3 season car though!
