O/II/II/II... (RECORD/PAUSE/PAUSE/PAUSE...)
A recording of the record button so to speak... well, mostly the pause button which starts and stops the tape. There are many ways of pushing this button.
I wanted this to feel like an early-80s video art piece, so I used VHS, and the dreadful Sharp QC-54 as my camera. Look it up. You’ll laugh. I chose an old Zenith 24-2892 remote control for its beautiful blandness.
Since the camera has autoexposure (with no way of turning it off), the picture goes rather dark when the metal part of the remote reflects too much light into the lens.

Bucket Fill Pixilation (QuickCam + MacPaint)
zhlédnutí 516Před 16 hodinami
A little pixilation (stop-motion using people) made with an old Connectix QuickCam (the first commercially available webcam). The pictures were captured on a Macintosh IIci computer. The QuickCam is capable of capturing in greyscale, but I went with good old 1-bit mode (just blacks and whites and nothing in between). Besides just wanting a 1-bit aesthetic, it also allowed for some MacPaint grap...
The Sky - Making "color" art with my dot matrix printer (Apple ImageWriter II)
zhlédnutí 461Před 21 dnem
Don’t ask me why it’s hot air balloons, taxi cabs, fish, and a few baseballs. That’s just what the brain dug up. This is a print made with an 80s dot matrix printer (Apple ImageWriter II). Lacking an actual color ribbon, I printed black onto a variety of colored sheets of paper, and then collaged everything together. It’s some of the tiniest cut-out work I’ve ever done. The graphics were made e...

Here is a fun series of pictures I made using “Little Seven Color Paint Program” or “Seven-color PAINT program”. It’s not clear what the official title is. It’s an unfinished homebrew graphics program for the Atari 2600 made in 2005 by John Payson. The program lets the user draw 16x16 block images using six colors plus black. Holding down the Select switch on the console enables color cycling. ...
Branch - Random Pencil Scribbles and Ensoniq ESQ-1 Notes

Originally I had wanted to use a photograph of a tree for this idea. Everywhere I went, I looked at the trees, but none of them were quite the right shape. Their branch structures were too dense and complicated. Eventually I discovered that a dead jalapeño plant in the backyard had an appropriate structure for my idea. The plant was held up and photographed against the sky. The scribbles were d...

Sand Dancer Animation

Sand Dancer. A short stop-motion animation I made for the class I’m teaching through the Dogbotic creative workshop program. The “sand” is actually wheat flour. The dancer is made of sticks and stones. This is technically rotoscoping. I video projected footage of a dancer onto the flour, and matched my literal stick-figure as best I could to the dancer’s body. For each frame I had to turn off t...

too lazy for locate your hand? use the hand remote
I call this a "Catch Twenty-Tool".
That was a major problem with video tape formats. For VHS it would be even worse would be if the original was recorded in SLP/EP. One of the problems with that speed isn't just that the tape runs at 1/3 the speed of SP, but that two thirds of each video track overlaps with the previous next track so that the useable video signal only comes from the middle of each video track. As a comparison, with SP there's a small bit of space between the video tracks, and with LP the video tracks are touching but not overlapping. That's why I recorded at SP whenever it was something I wanted to keep.

This is like that game that was viral on youtube 10 yrs ago, lol.
Oh? I don't think I'm familiar with what you're referring to.
@@japhyriddle It's called plug and play. It's a terrible name because it makes it a little harder to find. "plug and play game" doesn't really work, lol. It's also an anomaly, I don't understand what the point of the game was.
Awesome video !

My grandparents had a remote like this. Their remote doesn't do all the fancy stuff yours does, but it was always wrapped up in plastic wrap so it wouldn't get dirty.
A remote kept in plastic wrap? Ha ha ha.

Unacceptable picture quality, you are so lucky you do not have too put up with this rubbish...
Okay. That was huge waste of time. Why exactly that was a problem at all again? That wasn't even a task. You have a picture, you normalize it to scale of sound chanell. You pick a time-position scale. You figure out amplitudes and offsets. You generate samples. In majority cases, it will result in 50ish lines of code (depending on language). Maybe +20 if you want it sound specifically
There's more to life than efficiency. Don't forget to enjoy the quirks of life and make art and have fun. I'm not a programmer myself, but here's a Python program that a fan made which expedites the process: drive.google.com/drive/folders/17kSnE5LReR2AfPeCvtolRFE32McIFu12?usp=drive_link

What did you record or run this video through for its effect, I know its done analog
Which effect are you referring to? I recording the Channel F's output onto VHS, digitized it with a Canopus ADVC-110 converter, and then sped it up.
@@japhyriddle Thats basically what I meant, is there anything special about the vhs recording or is that just expected for the medium
@@willlit2806 It's just what it looks like. The Channel F puts out an RF signal. RF is notorious for low resolution color fringing. The greens are very noticeably weird here.
This video is underrated and so is this guy.
Aw. Thank you : )
