Japhy Riddle - Mandolin (Promotional Teaser)

In the mid-90s, Aaron Zonka and I started a band called “Maxit for Pet”. That’s what was written on one of the tape cassettes that we recorded our music over. Only in recent years did I actually find out what it meant: The tape must have had the game, “Maxit” for the Commodore PET computer (software used to come on tape). Our earliest material was all made up on the spot, but as we became more serious, we started actually writing songs. Most of them were about cats.
FF to December of 2021: Callie Day had just started volunteering as an assistant at the Singing Sands recording studio in Portland. I decided it would be fun to record the old Maxit for Pet songs. She’d get practice recording. I’d get the recording. These eleven tracks are what resulted from those sessions.
To save me from total embarrassment, many of the lyrics were altered. But, I kept some of them, and I made sure that the ones I changed still maintained the same flavors that they had originally. It was interesting playing music this simple and straightforward again. No odd time signatures. No guitar leads. Just verses and choruses made out of bar chords.
I hope you enjoy listening to Maxit for Pet as much as I enjoyed making it.
