My battery is flat and the lock in the door is broken, so I am looking for an alternative entry to my vehicle. I am wondering if it is possible to access the starter from underneath to connect an extra battery to the starter and this way gain access. Is it?

Obviously you were working on the front brakes as well or just had the wheels taking off exposing the front brakes at the end of the video, not rear brakes.

Wow, my 08 has 267,000 miles and the starter just went out. I have someone coming out to look at it tomorrow.

  • @BryanBowenArchangelBarachiel

I had to use e8 socket to remove two of the exhaust manifold studs near the back so I could realign the exhaust manifold. I pried off / pulled exhaust manifold back and forth the exhaust manifold to remove it. I couldn't remember which side that gasket goes on if the top or on the manifold the small one. This is the second time I'm replacing the starter though it's a lifetime warranty part. I had a exhaust wrap around the starter, I put this heat shield on it, and I applied heat shield with silicones heat spray around the exhaust manifold, I am hoping after this is done it's fixed permanently. The issue the truck was doing when the starter failed this time wasn't not starting the vehicle which the gears were locked up on the original, it was trying to crank the truck Non-Stop. Putting on and removing the battery terminals cause the negative post to leaves some small weld marks. I checked the battery which is still good & I replaced my negative leads by recrimping them & installing them on a new terminal. I also recrimped the lead since I seen some of the wire was starting to separate on the terminals the dealership replaced previously under warranty. The work I did will not have corrosion. Only is all system I'll probably switch to a stainless steel long exhaust though I don't have money to do that currently since you have to change your or modify your hole is all system. If I'm going to change the headers I'm going to change all of it the stainless steel.

I had a 1969 Ford F100 Straight 6 you could just about stand in the engine compartment LOL but I didn't have to I just went underneath & had it out & in 20 or 30 minutes no joke. I miss them days. I did my Tundra yesterday without pulling the manifold I did look at it, but gave it a try without pulling the manifold & got lucky. Still a pain in th A no matter how you look at it.

Hey guys i just did this replacement in 2.5 hours, Disconnect battery with 10mm Remove 10mm bolt holding down the dipstick on top and pull the dipstick tube up towards u Now get under the truck Take the single 12mm bolt that holds the transmission cooler hoses bracket (below passenger side catalytic converter) Remove the two 14mm bolts holding the starter (youll need a long wrench for the one top ) Pull starter off so now u can see and remove the 12mm bolt on the solenoid Disconnect the thin gray wire going to the solenoid Now the starter should be completely free Spin the starter around so the nose now faces toward the front of the truck (180 degrees) Spray some wd40 on the transmission cooler hoses because you will need to push them up away from you while you slip the starter out from under them. To reinstall reverse order 😬

Jack stands are cheap or being an old ranch boy we just used wood blocks with boards to make up the difference. Thanks for the vid, you had me sniffing by the end too ;)
