The water color paper tip is key, it makes such a difference, just any paper with not grip will allow you to do way way lighter lines and a lot better control. Try it!

I’m just getting into drawing with ballpoint pen. Your videos are very helpful. 👍 One question… I’ve noticed that most ballpoint artists seem to prefer blue ink, whereas most other ink artists (fountain pen, dip pen, marker pen) mostly use black ink. I would have thought that black ink would give a more realistic look, especially when drawing portraits of people who have black skin. Is there any reason that yourself and so many other ballpoint pen artists seem to always reach for a blue pen ?
