From what I have been able to find, a basic rifle platoon consists of three nine man rifle squads, a machine gun squad, and a command group. That is 39 men, so attach a fourth rifle squad and two specialists like marksmen to make 50. As long as they exercise fire discipline, they should be able to break the attack and inflict heavy losses on the Mexicans, especially in officers, enabling the Rangers to leave the Alamo and continue the fight utilizing their Ranger skills to further degradethe enemy.

While I have not watched it, I can see one way the older navy can win. The ships all sail in different directions. The new battleship has to chase them all down. After it runs out of fuel, the sailing ships have the advantage and can starve the sailors on the newer ships.

Way too many variables to answer this question. Weapons, amount of ammo, equipment etc. If its just 50 Rangers in thier underwear, then I would hazard to guess they wouldnt fare much better than the rest of the folks that were there!

What if the Mexican army surrounded the Alamo out of range of the RANGERS, of which I am one, brought in more troops to contain the battlefield. They then do exactly what Santa Anna did in 1836, harass the troops in the Alamo denying them sleep for a couple of weeks then go quiet let them fall asleep and attack?

What the bombardment did keep everyone awake for 12 days, when the fire stopped everyone fell asleep.

three or four rangers with sniper rifles would have destroyed the command structure quickly, half dozen guys with battle rifles would have destroyed the trained artillery crews since the cannons had to be within a few hundred yards of the target. Claymores would have stopped several attacks on the walls. the machine guns and rifles would have slaughtered the assault troops. Santa Anna's army was under supplied and were suppose to live off the land by raiding local ranches which didn't work out that well.

The marines would be brutal until they run out of ammonition. After that they are worse soldiers then the locals. Better conserve ammo and concentrate of surgical strikes where it reslly matters. Taking out the enemy's commanders perhaps?

Hands down yes. But some of these scenarios the modern unit would not be able to do much. A single aircraft for instance would run out of ammunition and thus become a tactical paperweight
