    Oh dear, I can't take a video editor seriously when they hide the timeline window. That's not user-friendly is it?

    • @AndreaBorman
      @AndreaBorman Před hodinou

      I did manage to drag the video to the timeline in the end. In 38:34 in the window where it said "export help" you will see it has "timeline" enabled. So I think in Shotcut you have to create a profile or enable the setting before it will let you drag any videos to the timeline. Yet there was no user guide to explain that. Shotcut is no as user friendly as Openshot also Shotcut does not have as many features as Openshot has. That's one of the reasons I don't use Shotcut on my computer. Openshot is better.

  • @MatthewOfNineveh

    I use Shotcut and it works well for my needs. Might need to play around with the configuration to setup things more to ones liking. Nice review.

    • @AndreaBorman
      @AndreaBorman Před 4 hodinami

      Shotcut did work for me after a lot of fiddling around but it lacks the add titles and fade in and out features that Openshot has. Openshot is betters as it is the one that is the most like Windows Movie Maker and Windows Live Movie Maker. Which is what I was using when I was on Windows. I am on Linux now so no Windows Movie Maker because there is no way to get it to work on Linux. So now I use Openshot.

  • @JonHaa87
    @JonHaa87 Před 9 hodinami

    Completely agree with your verdict. Kdenlive is a typical kde program in that it has tons of settings, but not user friendly defaults and it's hard to use because it's too confusing with too many options and buttons and stuff. And shotcut seems to be more for color grading stuff and who knows and has also a very confusing user interface. Openshot is great, but maybe the default title length should be halved. These are kinda long.

    • @AndreaBorman
      @AndreaBorman Před 4 hodinami

      Well a lot of people use Kdenlive but I didn't find it very user friendly at all. Shotcut has very limited functions. You can only join video clips together but you cannot add titles to the video. I find that Openshot is the best one because is easy to use and has a lot of the features that Windows Movie Maker has got. Openshot has the option to add transitions, fade in and fade out effects and titles just like Movie Maker has. So anybody who has use Windows Movie Maker or Windows Live Movie Maker will find Openshot easy to use or lean to use. Openshot has been around for a long time and there is a Windows version. So I could have used it on Windows but then I had Windows Movie Maker so I never thought of using Openshot. Now that I am on Linux of course Windows Movie Maker doesn't work. So I had to find an alternative and Openshot fits the bill as it is a lot like Movie Maker. The only thing it doesn't have is the record from the webcam feature and the credits feature where the titles slide up the screen or sideways.Which Windows Live Movie Maker has but you can't have everything.

  • @kawawete
    @kawawete Před 12 hodinami

    Just a little suggestion : make your title cards less long (about half as long) and it would be perfect. You can also record your face separately from your screenshare and use a picture-in-picture effect to overlay your camera over the screenshare

    • @AndreaBorman
      @AndreaBorman Před 4 hodinami

      I am using Guvcview to record my webcam and I use Kazam or Simple Screen Recorder to record my desktop. Depending on which laptop I am on. I made the webcam clip separate then I joined it together with the other clips in Openshot to make the video. The cards are a You Tube feature that anyone can add to their videos. I don't think there is any way to control how long they display. I think you mean the end screen clips which is another You Tube feature you can also add.

    • @AndreaBorman
      @AndreaBorman Před 16 hodinami

      Both Kdenlive and Shotcut are Appimages and so is Openshot. According to the website Kdenlive is no longer being made as a Deb package. It is now a Flatpak or Appimage. As you can see in the video the versions that Debian have in Synaptic of all 3 video editors are very old versions. So does Ubuntu only have the old versions in their package manager. That's why it is better to install the video editors from the vendors website. That way you know you are getting the latest versions and you will get updates for any new versions direct from the vendor. Rather than wait for Debian or Ubuntu to update which they don't always do right away. I have never tried Fedora but it's good to hear that they do keep their packages up to date with the latest versions. I don't know why Ubuntu and debian don't. Maybe it's because they have so many that they cannot keep track of everything. We can always install the package ourselves if we want the latest version. That is easy to do.

    • @AndreaBorman
      @AndreaBorman Před 23 hodinami

      I have tried Kdenlive but I couldn't figure out how to use it. Shotcut works I did try the latest version which is an Appimage like Openshot is. I was able to add the video clips but it doesn't have the option to add or create titles as Openshot does. Openshot is better because it has more features that Shotcut. It is I think very similar to Windows Movie Maker which I used to use on Windows and does have a lot of those features. Openshot also do a Windows version so Windows users can use it to. Openshot is the one that works best for me. Also if you are going to use it on Linux it is better to get the version direct from the website. If you want Shotcut you should also download from the website rather than the package manager. Because both versions that Ubuntu and Debian have are very old versions. So it's better to install it yourself direct from the vendors website as I do. Both can be installed as Appimages.

    • @v0xl
      @v0xl Před 20 hodinami

      @@AndreaBorman yea i looked into it deeper and i could totally see how openshot would be perfect choice for someone who's used to the movie maker (shotcut comes with a windows version as well though, i even used to use it on windows for a while)

    • @AndreaBorman
      @AndreaBorman Před 14 hodinami

      @@v0xl Yes Shotcut, Kdenlive and Openshot all have versions for Windows. I have just made a video in which I tested out both Shotcut and Kdenlive. Out of all of then Openshot is the best one because it has most of the features that Windows Movie Maker has. It is also the only one that works well. I think Openshot was made with Windows users who used Movie Maker in mind because it does seem to be a lot like it. That's one thing I miss is Windows Movie Maker but there is no way that Windows Movie Maker will work on Linux. Because it needs Net Framework and that won't run either not even though Wine. So Movie Maker is out but Openshot is the next best thing and has most of the features that Movie Maker has. I have read that Windows users are having a hard time getting Windows Movie Maker to run on Windows 11 because Microsoft have taken the download off of the website. Also Windows is blocking the installation. So Openshot is a good alternative for Windows users as well.

      @@AndreaBorman Okl! BTW I have found out another way to add MIDI playback to Linux, by using Timidity! It has an advantage over Fluidsynth and that is lower CPU usage. First you install Timidity from the repos, then you type in terminal "timidity -iA Os" (capital letter O) this will then create 4 virtual MIDI ports starting with 128:0. You then have to bind one of these to the system MIDI port, so you just run "aconnect 14:0 128:0" then you have native MIDI playback! The only downisides is that a lot of programs are just hard coded to use Fluidsynth instead, so a lot will just ignore the system MIDI, and you will have to type these commands every time you boot up, but you can just put them in a startup script. I have GZDoom playing with native MIDI and it sounds great, also some MIDI websites use it too.
