herinneringe -- People of the Garden speak
An intro to some members of Kirstenbosch staff who started in the Garden, and who have been here for more than 25 years. Their stories will come in a later edit of the hour long group session we had in the Conservatory in mid-August 2012. (This clip ends a bit abruptly). This is WIP on a project to celebrate 100 years of the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden. Behind the camera was me, George, also here for 28 years, and like some of the people on camera, have a family history linked to the Garden: My father arrived as a newly qualified Kew hort in 1929, and lived in Protea Village. My mother was a "trainee lady-gardener" who lived in the hostel, which is now Pearson House. Both were homesick, for London and Indwe in E Cape respecively. He came across her crying next to the river that runs past Pearson House, comforted her, and the rest merges into history.
