What a great amount of research you have done here! The uncommon verses of this song have so many references to a spiritual~psychological~ sexual relationship. (Buckley referred to this also). You don’t have to look very deeply to get this as in “she tied you to a kitchen chair” and “remember when I moved in you” I was aghast when I saw young girls in tutus dancing to this. Can’t imagine a 7 year old girl singing this song with its sexual content. As you stated, there’s a spiritual struggle in this song and some aspects of it are pretty dark. Just because a song is called “Hallelujah”, it is not automatically appropriate for Church and Temple services. Nor is it exempt from parental guidance labeling. It is sad that our educational culture no longer focuses on deep analysis of poetry/literature.

I have to say, I adore this song. A version that was very moving to me was in the Saturday Night Live opening, after Leonard died and Hilary Clinton lost the Presidential election.

In my opinion: PENTATONIX the best version of Hallelujah.

The photographs of these three men sitting at the defendants table in court while in handcuffs is quite telling of manipulation, as in now way were these men posing any danger or risk of flight. Decades ago, I also considered Henley as a good guy, after reading of his legal attempts to secure from development the Walden Woods land in MA, near Walden Pond, which Thoreau wrote of. This was a very well presented timeline and opinion piece.

Screw Don Henley. Leave his work in the dirt and look at bands that were just as good. There were dozens of bands who held their own against the Eagles and they deserve to be remembered and supported. Bands such as America, Bread, Jim Croce, Harry Chapin, The Band......there were tons of great bands back in the 70's when I was a teen. The Eagles were just one of dozens.....forget Don Henley.

Don forgot to buy tech stocks after the first couple of Eagles albums. It's the only way to beat the system. The artist is at the bottom of the food chain. And Felder was a founding Eagle partner. They were initially proud of being equal on the dough. They canned him in 2001. He's a fantastic guitar player.

Saw them in 2013 at a huge outdoor event with over 50,000 people at the Newfoundland Salmon festival. First 15 minutes they were on stage (the crowd going crazy), Don Henley very seriously looks up at the wave of people in awe, and says quote " Please stop recording us with your phones and iPads, you are taking unwanted pictures of myself and the band while we are performing, thank you." I’ve mostly heard locally performed special versions of Hallelujah. One was performed by members of our police department. In any case, I’ve never heard a version that didn’t give me goosebumps.

Frey and Henley were alike in so many ways. They loved and hated each other at the same time. Both very talented, driven and greedy. It was inevitable that they tore the band apart. Thank goodness that they produced some great music in the time they were together.

I saw The Eagles on Tuesday 4th 2024 in Manchester England. Also been a big Eagles fan but I fully know about Don Henley’s reputation. But a really curious thing happened at the concert. Don Felder was on stage throughout their performance and featured in many of the solos and vocals. It was definitely him. But if you look up the cast members for the tour you will find no mention of him. Equally at the bands’ current calls at the end Don Felder did not reappear with the other members. Only Henley, Gill, Schmitt, Deacon Frey and Welsh. Also Felder did not appear on any of the publicity photos at the area. I have tried to research all this but cannot find and explanations. It was definitely Don Felder, he played brilliantly with his two knecked guitar on Hotel California and even stood right next to Joe when they did the famous long dual guitar solos. All this a real mystery. Can you help. 🙋‍♂️👏👏🇬🇧
