One of The Most Majestic Slot Canyons I have EVER SEEN. The High Spur is WAY OUT THERE and just a few miles west of Canyonlands National Park. It is 45 miles of dirt road to Hans Flat Ranger Station and then another 12 miles of easy 4X4 roads to the Trail Head. Although I Descended and then Reascended this canyon in a non-technical fashion, there were a few spots where climbing back out was dif...

Please Read One of the commenters pointed out a big mistake I made on the 1st Rappel. There are deep grooves forming right under the Rappel Chains and one should walk away from the rappel landing zone thus pulling the rope away from the wall while pulling it down. This responsible move will reduce rope trapping groove formation! It is especially important for long Rappels with lots of heavy rop...

I had forgotten just beautiful the climb of Mount Sneffels was several years ago. I did the Standard route which was fun and somewhat challenging. I really appreciate your videos as you really capture great shots of your climb's, and your selection of music goes right along with the adventure. I did most of my climbing between 1995 to about 2006 doing 34 for the 14ers during that period. Nothing like climbing them solo especially since I did most during the weekdays so no crowds. Thank you for the return trip.
Wonderful!
Appreciate it 👍👍!
Hey im actually looking into getting a dirt bike for 14ers like this where my suburu wont cut it. Im looking into getting a klx 230r, do u think that would work on this trail? Thanks and nice video
@@schultz6622 it could but really depends on having very low gearing for that very steep fairly rough road. Lots of experience never hurts either. I could not do it to the top on my KLX 300 and barely escaped Browns lake trail a couple days later, super steep loose. I did buy a small front sprocket after that to have a more low speed power/torque. For me it was too rough to go very fast and too steep to go slow, bogging down in 1st gear. Hope that helps. I have been riding duel Sport bikes for a long time. Definitely work up to something like that.
I'm from Nebraska and I'm coming to Winter Park with the family next week and I'm debating heading over and trying to bag Grays and Torreys Kelso ridge route early some morning. I tackled Long's last summer with a couple good buddies. Wondering how the exposure and class 3 sections compare. Video sure makes them look pretty gnarly. I know I can always just turn around but if I'm in the area, I want to take advantage and get my 2nd and 3rd 14ers done. I'd be solo on this one.
I'd say both Longs and Kelso ridge on Torries are in not that different, both with solid exposure, Longs on the "ledges" and Kelso on the Knife edge. Same class 3 feel to me. I will say Kelso Ridge is a shorter route so you'll be fresher and less committed. . . Hope the helps!
this video is unreal! The cinematics, the story telling, and most of all the sheer skill involved with this climb made it such an enjoyable watch!
Thank you my friend! Love to hear that you appreciated this incredible adventure! Karl Decker 👍👍
What happens if you come across a rattlesnake on your way back?
Take a cool pic and let 'em be
If the canyon is too narrow to pass, that means it’s narrow enough to climb over them
@KarlDeckerPresents makes sense. Absolutely stunning video btw Your style of narration and video content is just incredible and this place is top notch. Great work!
Awesome thank you! Karl 👍
Amazing.
Big day with my daughter!
I assume Braden is your son?
No a nice guy met on another hike.
Surely you've won some awards😅
Yes, very gratifying, thanks 👍
Always enjoy your videos, Karl! I know how much backtracking you must do to get some of these shots, so thank you for your hard work! I appreciate your knowledge and experience!
Thanks Jeff, very nice to see your comment and kind words regarding the channel!! I'm pleased to hear that, I hold what you've achieved in high regard! If there's a chance to get together on a discovery trip, don't hesitate! Best, Karl 👍👍
Excellent video and editing. Which pack is that?
Thanks so much for your kind words! Karl 👍
28:48 On the way to Alamosa as a kid we knew about a plane crash on Mt. Blanca. Supposedly full of toys. We'd look up and dream about all those toys up there. Also coming the other way seeing the Sangro de Christos the most mysterious mountain range. OMG! I can't look! Have I mentioned. You're fearless!
Appreciate your thoughts, interesting story!
Awesome place! Awesome video!
Thanks a lot!
Hi Karl, your video blew me away, simply fantastic these red mountains and your athletic performance to go up there. I am thrilled and thank you for showing this cinematic video! 👍👍👍Cheers and looking forward to the next Video, Paul
Great to hear that! That was the goal here, knew it would be a scenic paradise this time of year! Would appreciate you sharing this with a few friends, etc. helps the growth a lot! Thanks again, Karl 👍👍
Hi Karl, ok, I will "distribute" it among my friends...Of course, because the video is really worth seeing👍👍Have a nice Sundy and cheers, Paul
Amazing! We just did Arapaho South a week ago and I wish we had had enough time to do the Traverse. Thank you for sharing!
Oh thank you my friend! It's a great classic Colorado traverse, you'll enjoy it when you have the time! Cheers, Karl 👍👍
When you said "Superstar... Don't quote me on that." at 5:30, the camera was looking more like down Sky Pilot Couloir. Part of Twilight Couloir can also be seen there. Superstar is pictured clearly on the right side looking up James Peak at 0:09.
That's why I put in the disclaimer LoL. Appreciate the correction.
Eww turned it off as soon as I had to hear you drink something. I don't know if there's a worse noise in audio. People drinking in mic looked like fun
Can't I be forgiven for the act of hydration during a dual fourteener slog?? I'll try to do better in the future

Amazing video!
Thanks again 👍
Great vid! Headed there this weekend!
Excellent plan, enjoy that wonderful area!! Thanks, Karl 👍👍. Oh, please share your favorite vids with friends, that's how we're growing 🙏🙏
Karl adventure video wizard! Leaving for my yearly pilgrimage to transcendent Colorado in a couple of days, doing some trip planning by watching your outstanding videos! Maybe we'll run into each other again like that day way up on Mount Antero!
Hey my friend!! How are you? Great to hear you're heading back to do more cool things! Hopefully we'll see each other out there sometime! Karl
This is beautiful! Love watchin all of your videos, do you think an outback could make it up that? I know you said steep but not too rough
Yes, it IS incredible! Thanks. I'm not the person to comment on your Outback question, that said I've seen them get up roads I didn't think they could.
It's like Capital Peak on Steroids and doubled.
Yeah, pretty much! Karl 👍
@KarlDeckerPresents I did trad leading at only 5.8, but would be scared to even do that roped crawling (Which would be dangerous anyway and take forever!)
Thanks. Great video. A friend and I did this nearly twenty years ago. Now this scares me just watching this!
Appreciate your comment, you know what it's like up there! To your point, I have had to be more respectful of what my knees tell me already, so that day will come where I have to back off a bit, hopefully not for a few more years! Best, Karl 👍👍
@@KarlDeckerPresents Thanks. I was 57 when I did this and already had one replaced hip. So it wasn't easy! But my time window for doing things like this has passed. Enjoy your remaining years of being able to do this, and keep the videos coming. Milt Strickler
Will do sir! As long as I'm able
Awesome!
Thank you! Karl 👍
Wow! Well done!
Well thanks, appreciate it! Feel free to share any/all of your favorites, Karl 👍!
Love your videos. Took a trip to Moab to do the fiery furnace, eye of the whale, and lemon squeezer in Colorado national monument a couple of months ago because of you. It was an incredible trip, I appreciate the inspiration and the detailed guides.
That is awesome! Reading this made my day, so glad you got to experience those very cool and unusual adventures! My humble thanks, Karl 👍👍😌
Awesome Karl. Two questions, what drone are you using for these spectacular videos? Second, have you summited Mt Lincoln above Palisade?
Thanks again. DJI mini 3 pro, not yet on Lincoln. 👍👍
Thank you for the excellent work. My Dad wants me to scatter his ashes up there someday. Now I know the way and I understand his wishes... it is a truly beautiful place.
Glad to help. That's a touching story, I fully understand, and now perhaps seeing the area it does for you also, as you said...that means a lot to me and I thank you for posting this. Karl 👍
sweet video!
Thanks! Appreciate that, Karl 👍
I was shocked by how many evergreen trees appeared to be dead. Most of the entire forest seemed to be dead. Is it true?
In some areas yes, sadly. Rocky Mountain NP has very bad damage 😔
dude 😮
Thanks my friend 👍! Karl. Please share with some friends if you're able
Great video and a cooling effect for the heat wave we are about to get. Thanks for presenting it to us.
No problem Buddy! It's definitely cool up there, glad you feel chilled down watching 😊😊. Karl 👍
Great video. You really captured the beauty of the mountains. We’ve driven by there but have not explored it. Maybe next time. We enjoy your adventures. Keep up the excellent work!
Thanks! It was great timing to catch the area with the almost perfect scenic conditions. I have been on hundreds of mountain adventures, this scene was mind blowing even for me! Thanks again for the nice comment, Karl 👍👍
Very nice! Thank you for sharing, and greetings from Canada!
Thank you! Cheers! 👍
When I drove the million dollar highway in July, it was snowing. In the Rocky Mountains, you can get snow any day of the year and they have. When I lived in Bozeman Montana, we got 18 inches of snow in the middle of June.
Yes the snow events can be unpredictable. Thanks!
Another great adventure filmed to perfection in an outstanding landscape! Even though I am familiar with snow being born in Michigan, it amazes me that there are places that have that much left on the ground as late as June. Guess elevation plays a big part in it…
Thanks my friend, I sure tried to capture a sense of that elusive combo of mountain color, patchy snow, and great lighting. That's magical. It's surprising, especially above 13,500 or so how long the snow will persist. Karl 👍
Thanks Karl for another stunning adventure. We were on the Million Dollar Hwy last fall and loved it but didn't see the anything like from this perspective. Thanks for inspiring us to stop living vicariously through others and to get out there. Cheers.
You are very welcome of course! Drones can provide spectacular, hidden perspectives and that's why I use them when permissible. This place, with fortunate timing, was mind blowing! Glad to hear you're inspired to get out there and experience it in person. As great as a vid might be, the awakening of the senses to the majesty of natural settings should happen in person!! All the best, Karl 👍👍
Absolutely fantastic Karl, as always !! 🙂
Means so much coming from a great drone pilot and editor that you are Petr!! 🙏🙏
Stunning views. Good demonstration of how to do the Red Peaks.
I'm happy to hear that the routing came out clear to you. Worked on that. Glad we agree that the views were amazing. Thanks! Karl 👍
WOW! Your incredible efforts and magnificent scenery ! Thank you so much, Karl!
My pleasure! Glad you enjoyed, Karl 👍
Maybe the most amazing drone footage, end-to-end, I've seen. My humble thanks for the effort you must have put into this edit! Incredible
Great to hear, thanks much! I was pleased with the work, appreciate you, Karl 👍
Please accept my salute! Is ATV allowed there? Thanks, Karl!
Hey appreciate it! I'm honestly not sure, there are some local ordinances around Ouray. Check ahead. Karl 👍
That was some adventure and the drone footage was great. I have been up there but without all the snow. The views are epic. OHV do operate up there. I suggest 4x4 as there some tight turns and you need low range going down. Thanks for sharing these great views. 😀😀😀😀😀👍👍👍
Hey Lynn! Missed your post, it was a great reply to her question. Thanks! And appreciate your liking the video, means a lot coming from you! Karl 👍👍
Did the west ridge a couple weeks ago with no gear. It was a challenge but an incredible accomplishment.
Very nice, congrats!
Yay Karl Decker back in action!
Nice movie!!👍 Geat music selection👍
Thanks my friend! Very appreciative for your kind words! 👍
I would rename your video. There is another traverse called “Ripsaw Ridge” just down the spine of the Gores between Peaks C and G. That is confusing.
Okay. Speaking of confusing, why are there 2 distinct "Chicago Basins" in my home state?
@@KarlDeckerPresents how many Bear Lakes, Crystal Lake, Green Mt, Bald Mt, etc. etc.
Hey Karl, thanks for posting your amazing footage on here! I came from your Pacific to Atlantic video and was wondering what drones you use, especially for that video?
Yeah thanks, that was DJI air 2S. I now use a mini due to size in backpack.
Got it, thx. Which mini?
Mini 4 Pro
What drone do you use?
That was an air2s but I’d recommend the mini 4 pro a tad less stable in wind, but still good and way, smaller and lighter.
Wow, I need to buy a drone!
