Question for Avery: There's a lot of relatively unproven teams at TI this year. Do you think theres a potential for some big upset from one of those teams like ti10 spirit or ti6 wings? Also, how far do you think SA will go specifically. There's been a lot of hype around HEROIC and it feels like we might finally have a team that can challenge the EU monopoly. Would love to hear your thoughts since your predictions seem to always be right (and cap is always left). Big fan of the podcast!

Question: Possibly too gameplay-related for the Podcast but anyway: Say you have a flashfarming ranged Agi Carry - something like Luna/SF. The generic itemization involves a Dragon Lance and a Yasha in the midgame, with the Lance usually coming first. Why exactly is that the order of choice? To give more context to my understanding (7k WEU playing all roles) of the situation: I understand Yasha as a pure ramp-up luxury item as it's never the solution to a problem. In its base form it is purely designed to enhance farming with the Agi and the movement speed to move between camps quicker. I understand Dragon Lance as an efficient stat item. The benefits of strength and agility on a flashfarming, ranged agi carry are clear. More interestingly, it enhances positioning and teamfight DPS due to the added range (less need to reposition in fights = more DPS) as well as tower taking ability (more range = less dangerous positioning during siege = more possible hits on tower). Now take a Luna/SF at minute 12. You finished your small items and ponder which midgame item to go first - Dragon Lance or Yasha. You want to flashfarm in the next 8min, yet you're innately strong enough to willingly teleport to opportune fights (like enemy diving teammates under towers). Isn't the latter case too unreliable to justify Dragon Lance (with its superior fighting capabilities) over Yasha (with its superior farming capabilities) to warrant the decision for Dragon Lance first? Or in other words: Aren't the opportunity costs of Dragon Lance over Yasha first too high when you're looking at the missed GPM?

Some information good to know about the PGL stuff to help people put in context: in Romania, where PGL has it’s hq, by law, the employer is obligated to give the employee 5 days of paid vacation in case birth of the child. Now i understand that the players are not employees of PGL, BUT if you aspire to be a professional organization, you can inspire yourself from regulation that exist already, either in your country, or maybe somewhere else (i don’t know the law in every country, but i can pressume that there is something similar in any democratic one), or maybe not copy the exact law, but understand some basic ideas from what the body of law (which is the base of any type of regulation) wants you to do. In other words : if the body of law in any functional country wants for the higher authority to give the “small folk” some sort of protection for him to be with his family in a very important moment, without consequences, i think PGL could have been inspired by this and use this to make all parties happy. Also, SVG was on point with the fact that you enforce rules to ensure an even playing field, and the only ones in disadvantage in this case were the ones who asked for the exception.

I followed Zai and Notail since HoN and its sad that hes not playing anymore but its great that hes still in the scene!

While esports is a growing scene and it makes sense some of these rules havent been thought of yet, there should be something in place to protect teams to participate in tournaments from events like these, where a standin is REQUIRED. Otherwise every player and team with a player who is expecting a child/has health issues of any kind/ etc has to completey rethink about their structure of their team. "This guy is expecting a child around this pgl tournament so we cant take the risk so we have to bench or kick him even tho our team has been accustomed to a certain lineup, synergy, playstyle and everything" and thats not healthy at all for the scene. From OGs stand i hate that they went public and seemingly tried to apply presure while the qualis were happening. It wasnt proffesional and while the good of the scene is what really the topic is about here they should know its not the way or time to do it, because now it seems they try to abuse their stance in the community as an org which creates an even worse look for org in the eyes of TOs. Lose - lose situation here, hopfully the lessons will be learned and next year our scene will look better

I think the issue of bringing up, “well they’ll just kick players unofficially.” Then just say they can’t use them for TI, this was such a simple, “hey teams, we’re excited for WEU qualifiers as a fair play concern we’re bringing up a potential issue where Ceb may be required to have a stand-in, Immersion, this will be announced when it happens as soon as possible and OG will get a lvl1 draft penalty for these games. We hope Ceb will be with us the whole time but stuff happens.” A very simple message to the teams if it happens, then a quick post on Twitter when it happens.

39:45 just sharing a rare circumstance as when a stand-in made a significant impact to a team was when Resolution. He was supposed to be a caster/analyst, I believe, and a team needed a stand-in. He owned.

PGL is too nice to these ppl who havent worked a day in the real world. Should not have given a single day to OG as a standin, give them an inch and they ask for a mile.

Question for Cap: If Blitz leaves the pro scene again and wants to cast, will you dump SVG for him? What does SVG do well that Blitz could have do better in casting and vice versa?

I have been watching dota for 13 years and I still have to say ti3/ti4 qualifier couch casting is better than any official dota cast that has ever existed. It's more fun to listen people joke and talk around the game than just solely focus on commentating a game. It's why Sunsfan is the best caster right now. Be Entertaining.

The problem is that if PGL allowed OG to have a stand in for more than one day. Each and every emergency situation needs to be addressed similar to OGs situation which is not fair to everyone and easily exploitable. If you compare it to traditional sports, we have basketball players who plays thru childbirth of their child/ death of an immediate family etc with no exceptions. It only seems unfair because OG lose. If they won, we wouldnt even have this conversation

I believe Sneyking is just worried about what further exceptions to the rules could entail rather than the specific situation, so sticking to the rules is the best way to maintain 'competitive integrity'. But it is a very harsh view to not allow any exceptions, and he should just have said "I get anxious when rules are not followed". I remember when Tundra was eliminated from TI10 qualifiers against OG and Sneyking all-chatted about disappointing his fans, despite that all-chat was frowned upon back then so he's obviously okay with some exceptions.

I think Blacklist bombing out says a lot more about them as a team rather than the region as a whole.

I agree with the statement that standin make the team weaker most of the time but it kinda also funny that some team like og can make it work because Ceb is very close to the team and it make sense right? but then aurora has to get lorenof to stand in for armel and it's the same reason that Ceb can't play that because his wife is having a baby and lorenof is playing better than the original roster and suddenly take the place of armel in the end.

While I agree with Cap on the idea that people clarifying/apologizing for a bad take will generally help... I think if you've spent enough time on the internet, you've seen this exact situation before, and them apologizing/clarifying gets met with hoards of "damage control. Angry that got called out. Why would I trust the word of someone that said that in the first place?" etc etc. You appeal to people forgiving and moving on with new fresh mindsets. I don't think that is the majority of what happens online.

I think Valve and TI are in the right here, they can't just start changing the rules because then everyone will want their own bend in the railway line and the train'll go off the tracks in about 2 meters. Sneyking really getting triggered by the words 'TI, Ceb and OG'. He still remembers clear as day when they got smashed in 2 different TIs not to mention the 'Fountain farming' by probably the most watched Dota 2 team and him being included in that process. They really broke his soul, what a hater.

I feel like there could be a change where a team will compose of 6 players, and they are free to rotate which 5 would ultimately play per game/series. it adds more excitement and complexity for the game. it also solves the issue if a person is unable to play, they can still play. dunno but sounds plausible don't you think?

Question for SVG and Cap: A couple episodes ago SVG said Tinker was a Chinese specialty, are there any other heroes that end up being more region specific?
