- Not For Broadcast Episode 1 w/Cap & SVG
--------------
Dota 2 Patch 7.36. The big one. The patch that changes it all.
With #esl DreamLeague fully underway, Valve decided it was a good time to drop 7.36, a patch that has fundamentally changed hero identities across the board.
What are facets? What are innates? Where the hell is Ringmaster?
All this and more as Cap and SVG rant their way through a first look at the patch and what this means for the teams, pros, and Dota fandom across the world.

Whoever is doing the infographics is doing a great job. It really adds to the conversation
thanks, glad you like them!
Love the meme images that pops up while you guys talk, nice show.
Hi Slahser!
I reinstalled for the first time in years because of the new patch, I would not have done so if there wasn't so much cool shit to check out. Complexity (and change)can be a very appealing feature. Very annoying learning all these rune timings though
people like you are part of the problem. you dont love dota, you love shiny keys being jingled in front of your face
years like 2023?
what man. Its every 3 minutes for bounty runes, every 7 minutes for wisdom runes, and other than that every 2 minutes for power runes (except for the first 2 instances)
Its actually simple if you think about it. Looks complicated, since nobody explains and you have to figure it out, but thats it.
@@mrquickey3731 he probably isn't talking about this... but timings are simple what's complicated is how those timing affect the game if you want to maximize value for each role.
fake dota 2 still no.2 at steam chart
I can see facets potentially "reducing" complexity. You can take some abilites away by locking them behind facets. For example Wraithking is now either more of rightclicker or a summoner and not both at the same time.
This podcast is the best thing after Jenkins "Herald reviews"; I just have one concern there might be some bias towards Tundra or dramas that will not be discussed without bias if you guys partner with Tundra ( like zai and mc). Nonetheless, glad you guys got a sponsorship. keep up the good work, love the podcasts
I am not addicted to Dota, I am addicted to people talking about Dota
But you wouldn't have the second addiction without going through the first one.
@@MyThoughts19902X That's where you'd be wrong. I do enjoy listening to high level dota 2 theory crafting and analysis... and I've never ever played Dota 2. Honestly though, I'm probably a rarity in that regard.
@@Decode04 okay. I am wrong.
@@Decode04 thats a fucking lie
I played this game 20 years ago when i start with 5.84b. I love the patch, I love how valve makes a lot cool changes.
same here the ability they added made the heroes realy unique in there own way im so positive in this update great job valve
Daaaaaamn, love to see it! And great editing as usual!
thanks for doing a dota podcast, been looking forward to something like this so i'll watch as often as you guys post
SVG is so right about new/returning players like myself.
I install Dota 2 once or twice a year, pick up the new changes, and once the toxicity is too much I uninstall until next time.
Complexity has nothing to do with me not playing, inversely it makes me pick it back up.
But I'll be watching Dota 2 until I or the game die.
I love when crazy new stuff gets added and it gives me more to learn. I don't only play dota but I will always be a dota player. And that feeling of having new complexity to try out is awesome.
love the show, thanks for the content guys!
Very cool. Both of yall have good chemistry and are fun to watch.
Y'all had me so worried! I was like, finally a more consistent dota2 podcast, Sunsfan and Synderen keep taking off because "nothing is happening"
lol, those added meme images and gifs are funny xD
I can hardly wait for the next episode.
Love the podcast, I can't watch or listen to four hours of patch analysis so it's a good alternative to have something more high level.
THIS WAS A GOOD PODCAST, KEEP IT UP PLEASE
i wish some of the specializations were more interesting, i love clocks cog spec but the hook one is straight up better since its the same way the hero has played before but with a upside
Wow great to see you two with tundra!
All the crazy patches overhauling the game makes spectatorship fun, but as a potential returning player it's a daunting obstacle to an already stressful game.... but I've rediscovered that normal queueing can actually be fun still as a returner, but ranked is just exhausting with no upside.
this patch strategy bring up more potential for the ban pick phrase, like if your team has a ton of illusion user for like combo Casino Knight + SD, it is hell, or combo Luna + phoenix + dawn just to hack map, or if enemy picked LC, do not pick any illusion and have at least one debuff/break to cancel her shield, before ban pick phrase is just, yeah, you picked this, we kicked that to counter you, now, you picked this, our team picked this, you have to pick something that either synt with your team or out right canceling enemy team
the facet is for, if your team is not last pick, you can swap over other heroes for benefit roles, like some heroes that can play either carry or support just by facet change, so you don't screw up by out picked enemies, that bring up new strait for coutner picking hard, Sven can play as support/carry, troll can play as support/ carry, void can also play as support/ carry, invoker can play as carry pos 1/nuke mid, it will take time to adapt the strait, but if you team flexible, then it is a sure win
sadly i'm just a youtube commentator i cannot do anything, i hope that somebody read this and share this to everybody
Great thumbnail!
Svg was so entertaining during those long pauses
also i really appreciate svgs high level description of the "contract of dota 2", very lucid, true and funny.
I love the concept of picking something during draft. Draft has always been such a big part of dota and this just gives you a little more wiggle room with some heros. only problem being some heros got literal game changing stuff and others either got nothing or massive nerfs where it ruins the whole fun of that hero.
Good luck with your show/podcast/Averys rant on the Tundra account!
I really like the SUNSfan and syndereN podcast but you guys sometimes have other topics and/or another opinion. It's also a more light hearted show.. until Avery speaks ❤
I would like avery to bring back the abyss days and have an abyss segment talking about who the single worst hero is and how he would try and fix it, like how he used to rant about jakiro 5
Best dota podcast, keep it up Tundra.
they nerf mirana for no reason and gave joke innate ability
Always good to listen to fellow sufferers talk about their crack, good show
im so positive on this update!! i have fun playing it
fuck1ng so informative video!!! THANK YOU!!!
can we pls get the gif @14:23 🙏🏼
Nice! 👍
Where’s Tobiwan? I loved that fella ❤
patch 7.36 is one of the most unique updates in dota 2. Or is it?
still not as big of a change compared to 7.00 back in 2017
so this means you are not allowed to have another podcast ?
congrats
tbh i think its great how much things change but also i think the game is becoming more homogenous due to power creep and the need for efficiency in order to be competitive.
tinker rip. Also, RRP and new void ulti still needs rework. Not to talk about giant ward and golem. But its fine. I also think the Bristleback options are a nerf, which was actually much needed. Something like that should hit Timbersaw as well. Just look at the last couple pro leagues, timber or bristle was picked or banned almost every game, and also with through the roof win percentage. They were just OP. Bristle is still op, just maybe less op now.
A flat reset on dota would be so wild. Just for a month even.
Cap or no cap ?
What is funny is that the players will keep searching for odd strategies to become stronger than what the hero supposed to be. And If you find some itemization to dominate they will change the hero again. They want to play like bots I guess :))
question. can you get the frog or an alpha tester on the show.. ideally more design ppl
Love the vid. But improve the mic please the sound quality is horrendous
I just want to hear Avery talk about people dancing to music.
New stuff brings returning players. It's like new toys. They don't really care what is meta and enjoy figuring stuff out, even if it's already.
Also facets sucks as a word to use and describe. It sounds like the word they use before it gets in game flavor I just call it paths
Wooooo
Of course it would.
we want 10vs10 ranked mode 😂
I don't see a big problem in learning or relearning Dota. Who comes back will learn just one hero and will see the rest in the game. I play Dota for 20 Years and I still don't care about all the details of the spells of the enemy heroes.
Im "new" to dota :^) been 2 years ish now
Dota 2 classic when?
Dota always fills a nieche thats empty. Same with facets. There were very little unfixable set in stone choices in the game before, after the level 30 update which left all talents available. Now there is these hard decisions again that cannot be undone, that define the heros build in a match. Thats how it works, they ALWAYS fill a missing spot, making the game more complete and thus on a grand scale they will NEVER remove a "system" of the game, only change it or balance it like the outposts xp reward is now xp runes.
im new to dota!!!
turn back now!!
quit after 3,4 match
welcome and just play , dont need to read
Play visage
good luck! tough to learn but once you get the hang of it super fun
Pros will always be mad. They are earning money from the game, so the status quo is in their best interest.
SVG is far off. Dota is super easy to get into. You dont need to play ranked. Pick a hero, get some levels and items, throw some spells. That is all there is to it. I find it quiet exiting.
its fun again hahahha
twice a week LFG
Is cap going to pin my comments over here too?
I HAVE NO POWER HERE
@@CapCasts dang
so what SVG is saying is pro gamers are destroying dota because they take the fun of exploration and destroy it, by optimizing it as quickly as possible ;) i think these aspects will be fun for at least a little while and after dota will change again. but thats the problem of online games today, communities are so big, outspoken and skilled that its hard to make a game that keeps being interesting as a game to play (vs a sport to compete in). especially since lower ranked players want you to play "the right way" too.
hey! i'm a new player :(
I played dota for 10 years and stopped playing a few months prior to the patch when roshan travels across the map. Seeing the changes that time seemed too much to for me to grasp or not worth the time. Now this. Lol. How are you suppose to invite new players in this game? Should just have stick with the 4 abilities without the skill tree.
I understand that learning new stuff is hard for old people, I symphatize with you.
Its okay old man stay in your retirement home
Glad to see a pro has the same gripes with Valve's sh1t that i have. FFS fix you matchmaking Valve, its been more than a decade and you still give cancer to decent players by forcing them to play with trolls and noobs 8 games out of 10. Garena did so much better job 20 years ago at sorting out the bad players that its ridiculous.
Around 5 minutes you bring up the point I've grown to hate about Dota 2 and that's the dumbass tank meta. Like, look at Falcons now, just pick 3 tanky cores, then you have like enchantress that's insanely tanky and still deals crazy damage... It's just a tank fest and it's boring to watch. Dota used to have a lot of viable strategies to win, now it's just pick slardar, timber, lesh or lose the game.
Like yesterday Tundra vs BB. People talk about new imba TA, but she did fraction of the dps that Krobe did with just spirit siphons while simultaneously tanking all the damage and healing through.
Dawnbringer new hero confirmed 1:53
Who the heck is "Dawnbringer"? haha
Dawnbringer 💀
The main problem of buffing HEROES straight, is because neutral, roshan, and barracks feels weaker.
I think that Dota 2 doesn't have more room for new mechanics, it's time to start cutting those mechanics that players barely engage with, especially those that modify how the hero spells work. I would personally remove neutral items, shard and tormentors.
I also dislike the neutral items. In a "skill based" and competitive game should NOT be items that you can get in some games and in others not. Or at least they should be the same for every player in the same game. It's even worse since some neutral items are really good and can have major impact on a game..
I can live with x% chance to miss/crit/whatever but other than that all random mechanics need to go. Power runes are also stupid but they were always a part of this game.
So I agree.. tormentor should be removed as well. Or at least make the shard an item that drops like from killing Roshan. So you can chose who gets it and maybe even snatch the shard.. which could be a cool mechanic
bad takes thread: the whining edition
Exactly. This game will start to lose its players as old players leave and new players find it hard to understand the game.
Just done use them. Easy.
