Hi David. Thank you for this video. Can you point me to the type of flywheel puller needed for a 1966 C100? Any other special tools I need before taking the engine off the bike?
Great instructive video . My old '68 KO has sticky shifting, hopefully the problem is only the shift drum stopper arm and it has not damaged the gears, etc., as you described. I am surprised at all the videos that show old trail 90's, etc. that start up and shift properly after 20 years. If you don't have the proper JIS and special tools, and expertise, and money to gather parts, don't buy an old trail bike unless you can verify that it runs and shifts properly. Paying somebody to overhaul an engine/trans can cost more than bike is worth.
Hi There. I just rebuilt my 1964 Super cub C102. I am having an issue with the kick starter. With the clutch housing case off the kick starter works great. When I put the case on and tighten it the kick starter binds and wont retract completely. I originally had the one of the large washers in the wrong place. Had one on each side of the retract spring. I split the cases and put the spring in the proper position on the shaft and reassembled. Thought for sure that was the issue but no. Still binds. You can see that the case has a little more gap on the kick starter side when just sitting on place. Any thoughts. I thought maybe I had the wrong washer at the base of shaft under the kick starter drive gear but it appeared right.
Whatever live throws at you, just remember you are as close to heaven as it gets being in So Utah. A beautful plaCE...
OK ... I'll bite: What is "gliping"? Now if you added an "h" to it, that might mean looking for petroglyphs. Otherwise, seems to refer to something Irish or Scottish.
When cam fit unde crank at means piston Average not good as 110 old Honda bike
Great video! Thanks for putting this up. I’m working on a ‘66 CM91 and although they made so many millions of these bikes there is remarkably little info on things like this!!!
Yeah, you're learning Buddy, keep studying!
I’m putting this engine onto Honda s65. Do you need a key and a kill switch to get it running.. could you please help me?
Hi David I am putting a ATC125M motor on a 1974 CT90. I was thrilled when I saw you had transplanted a CT90 clutch case and kickstarter into your yellow ATX powered CT90. Could you do a video about what was involved. It looks like you had to split the main engine cases to install the CT90 kickstart shaft. I am assuming the ATC 125M and your ATX 125 motor would be much the same to install that kickstart shaft. Thanks for your excellent videos.
Is that twin gonna work as a twin or is the other engine just a dummy?
👍👍👍♥️♥️♥️🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
I got an 84 125m and I just put the motor back together and it won’t shift properly, goes half way into first and that’s it, I’m thinking the drum isn’t lined up properly, is there any way tell what position the drum needs to be in for it to work right?
I like how quiet this truck is. :)
Hondas have always been quality but the ct90-110s have to have the most dogshit transmissions ever devised. Completely unreliable.
Thanks for the video lesson U r gr8
Hi, I have a question on shifting on a 1979 Honda Ct90. I just got done over hauling the engine, started on first kick ran nice. Then I found out that the transmission is shifting backwards, with no neutral. I know I am going to need to disassemble the engine, but I have no idea what I should be looking to do at that point. Can you advise me or point me to a video that will explain it? Thanks
Hi, before everything Thank you for the video. It’s great material. Now, my question. What year and what engines are pushrod? Is there with manual shift? Bigger capacity? Like 110-125 or more? Reason is, I have a pit bike with slanted engine with chain and I want pushrod. 🙏 thank you
You know what's the problem I have no 2nd and 3rd on a ct90
I am about to replace the kickstart shaft on my Canadian C115, certainly much the same as you have shown, and uses the later beefier one that you show being installed. My question is to do with the clutch, all the books describe the clutch with the lever setup as you show but mine use the lever mounted on the outside of the right side cover under the small teardrop shaped access panel and is made up of the lever, a shaft with adjustment screw, the three ball bearing ring, the flower petal part that positions the mechanism and a top hat part that sits in the clutch bearing. Nowhere have I come across anything describing the assembly of this clutch either in manuals or video and wonder if you might post a video explaining the assembly and adjustment of this apparently little discussed version.
what transmision set did you use?
I’ve taken the clutch pack out to put in new discs. shifting the gears it doesn’t seem to go into all 4 gears . It goes into 3 gears and neutral but hangs up on, usually 3 or 4. When I say hangs up I mean it sits on top of the hump of the shift drum thing without going all the way into the indented notch. Would you please provide me with your thoughts. Thanks. I took a video.
What type carb?
King, it is from a CT200
Would love to see this engine pull apart and rebuild in much more detail David.
Hey David, any tips for a bit more go out of the ohv motor? I don’t want to swap to a non original motor.
Batteries were added because California required the tail light to be visible in case of roadside breakdowns. Typical California
Hi David. Just have a question that I thought you could help me with. I’m currently fixing spark problems on my 1972 CT90. I have 6V throughout the whole system. Up to the key. At the red wire going to the coil but still no spark. I discovered today that I’m only getting 2V at the points on the little spring arm. Is this an issue? Also the little spring arm gets very hot when I turn the key on? Is this normal? Do you know what might be the reasoning behind this? Thanks
Thanks
My bike was slipping, popping in and out of gear and grinding gears. I rebuild the clutch on my CT110 thinking that was my issue. I'm still having the same issue. Any ideas?
hello Dave do you know if any of the china top ends bigger the better will fit on the yamaha raptor 80cc
Hey David, I have a CT 90 with no wiring loom so the motor cant be started. Are you able to do a sketch of basic wiring just to prove the motor a runner please. My stator has 1x green with red line, 2 x white and 1 x yellow. Also can it be started with no battery? Thanks.... Alan from Australia
can you tell me that that honda cub 90 made in1974 is a magneto or it needs a battery.
Owwwwww So its really quite clever - thanks for teaching me something old school
WHAT?!....Brilliant.
Thanks for sharing your experience! I've got a'67 CT90 K0 with a kick starter that doesn't move down. It's stuck in the top position and even when I put the bike in gear and try to push it (bump start) it doesn't turn the engine over. Could my clutch be the cause of this problem?
Can any body tell me why sub transmission in ct90 what does it do??
Select high H or low L (in neutral) with lever under sub transmission housing . High for the roads and low will provide more torque (but slower) for the trails and steep terrain.
@@wanpaku3279 high mean engine power to wheel when sub transmision not in work and low mean sub transmission in work for tourqe ???
@@aliqadri4672 Correct. That's the basic principle. the 2 options H and L produce a different output ratio.
do you have the step gear on backwards? i see other videos with the step down on the case side. yours is on the shift shaft side??
Thanks
Great video. You wouldn’t happen to have a kick shaft laying around that you would be willing to sell would you?
Hello David and thank you for this excellent simplified and comprehensible ignition video! I have a 1975 ST90... This year I have gone through 2 batteries and 1 rectifier thinking one or the other was the cause of mid-flight motor "dying" - moreso when the is on... turn the light off, motor kicks back up... but eventually dies... After replacing both the rectifier and battery same time last week, the problem came back... So I am thinking the stator is shot... but if it looks good it sounds like the issue maybe just be points? Would that be fair assessment? When the battery is charged there are no issues, for about 15 minutes of drive time then the mid-flight dying starts all over... Thank you!
Thanks for the rundown David. Im actually having some troubles here with my 67' CL90. When i turn the switch to the "night-mode" you mention (Low beam or High beam position) the battery voltage starts going south and eventually the bike will shut off.. This is with the engine running and a multimeter hooked up to the batt. Im getting around 6.2v (with engine running/ light off) with a slow increase when i rev the throttle then as soon as i flick the headlight on the voltage falls off and keeps dropping pretty drastically until it cuts off... Does this sound like it could be the rectifier or the maybe stator? hmm mystery to me.. . I would welcome any wisdom here. -Thanks
Im having the exact same problem did you find a solution?
@@Brookzee32 I rolled the dice and replaced my rectifier and that did the trick! Good luck
@@Ataxia83 Thanks for reply. Thinking that's my problem too. Diode ohm test failed so just ordered a new one 25A 600V rating made by NTE. What specs were the one you installed? PS How has it been since new rectifier install? Are u seeing 7-8V with the headlamp and brake lights on? Also did u wire the ground from the rectifier directly to battery ground or to the frame?. I don't have original manual so not sure which is the factory correct way. Will test if there's a difference :p thanks
I've been trying to sort mine out for a full week. I still can't get it to run right and then the kick pedal snaps off. I think it needs a priest not a mechanic. I wanted a 125 but there won't be any til next year so I bought a 90 . What was I thinking! It's a 45 yr old bike. 😲
Hi David, Can you post a video with a good shot of the cam timing marks? I tore down my engine to replace a kick starter shaft and now it won’t idle. Runs decent off idle . I remember the marks being rather vague. Keep up the good work!
This looks like a great place to go play so I will have to put it on my go camping list, liked and subscribed.
Hi. The kick start shaft on my c105 doesn’t engage correctly. And ideas why? Thanks
I have 1966 C 100 Honda 50.....good explanation !!
What honda engine it is that ? My honda cub engine it is not like this, whell it is almost like this but..... I have timing chain
I need to fix my 1974 ct90. The clutch slips when kicking and doesnt fully disengage when idling. What may this be?
did you end up fixing it ...what was the answer
Bottom line. Honda 90s need a battery to run. Some will produce a visible spark without a battery. However there usually isnt enough power to spark under compression. Some do run, but very poorly and dont usually idle. Venturing out with a weak battery can leave you stranded.
Thanks for all the details, this is a way better intro than reading and looking at diagrams. I’ve got a 68 CT90 K0 I’ve gotta work on
Thank you David. This is very good information. I have a 63 105T. This is a great explanation.
