Is it a Conservative Constituency? There's a trend of Conservative run Town's dying around the UK. Their village outlook and 'gated community' mentality makes them ill equipped to run places. For a party who is either born or married into money/higher class and who's back hand deals keep their wealth rolling in, they don't actually know how to create prosperity.

One reason why the centre of Waterlooville is dying, even though it is in a generally prosperous region, doesn't get even one mention here. Simply put, the general appearance of the place is deadly DULL. The architecture seems to predominantly be drab, flat-topped, two or three storey units from the 1950s or '60s, all very functional back then but hopelessly out-dated now. Even if all the shop units were full there would be little that would make me want to visit the place, it makes even Swindon look glamourous!! What is really needed is comprehensive re-development of the town centre with interesting looking new buildings, a town square surrounded by civic buildings would be nice, a theatre or concert hall with adjacent bars/restaurants etc. would be a draw, a market hall with affordable rents for local traders, a leisure complex ... re-build it and the people will come.

Grew up with this as our main high street. Go back 15-20 years this place had everything you needed.

A few years ago Schiedam in the Netherlands was the record holder of "highest % of empty shop properties" at an impressive 25%. Spijkenisse at that time was working on expanding the town center, adding a new shopping area beyond the existing center. Last year half of the shop spaces in that new area were converted into appartments. The year after the new area was finished the square footage standing empty in Spijkenisse had increased by almost exactly the area of the new development; so some shops had RELOCATED and nothing new had opened. Online shopping means shops have to compete with businesses that have WAY lower operating costs. So the main street shops have lost a lot of business *EVERYWHERE.*

All this deprivation is the result if the metric system and decimalisation!

Im getting that feeling this was a very long term plan? Soon councils will be able to turn our high street shops into houses of multiple occupation to house our growing migrant crises. Just a thought?

Honestly, I think the worst trap anyone can fall into in modern life, is a mortgage. Living a plot, in something I built, you realise that most your working life is paying a mortgage + utilities. The rest is saving so as you can "enjoy" your time.

Somehow this country has billions upon billions for wars. We have spent billions in the red sea vs houthis. We have spent billions upon billions in Ukraine. Most of that money went to British arms industry which benifits a VERY FEW.

What makes my blood boil is that over 8 million a day is spent on illegal foreigners, that are homed , fed , given money and more. How much would this money help places like this ?. There is 317 councils, this means each council could have £8 million a year to sort their problems out! It is now time to look where our priorities lie and the people of Great Britain 🇬🇧.
