WITCHES, WIZARDS and WEIRDNESS in the UK's Strangest Town..! I was SHOCKED.

- Welcome to Glastonbury, known for being host to the largest music festival in the world and by far the strangest place in the UK... known as a Hippy Heaven, where Witches, Wizards and Hippies are a common sight! A mystical place where alternative lifestyles and pagan spiritualism is normal. A real life Harry Potter movie. A centre for all things alternative lifestyle and eccentric! I was shocked to see every shop was filled in this UK High Street, a rare sight on my travels of the UK. Glastonbury is a busy, bustling and vibrant British Town Centre, opposed to the abandoned high streets of Britain that we are all familiar with. Not all of the UK is Broken Britain. Thanks to @BackpackerBen for stopping by! Head over to his channel and check out his extreme travel content!

One national tabloid described this small British town as the "Weirdest Town in The UK"... I would say the "Strangest Place In The World". Never in my life have I been anywhere as weird and wonderful as Glastonbury or Avalon as it was once known. Hearing the stories of the locals in street interview form was eye opening.

Backpacker Ben looked at those springs like it was piss. Backpacking has changed a lot since I was a teenager. We would have been 'well' glad of a drink of good water when my mate and I went backpacking in 1990. We got of the Belfast to Liverpool boat with £12 between us and spent the next three months hitching through England. We very seldom went hungry or thirsty and we sipped at many service station taps, we would've filled our bellies and bottles at a spring like this. The English people were very good to us and many times we were fed, watered and offered a floor to bed down on. Great times and good people.
He had a big trip upcoming and didn't want to risk a Delhi belly. Thanks for watching and for sharing your experience. Hope you enjoy the content
20 years ago while I was very very high I wild camped on the side of Glastonbury tor. I woke in the night in my tent to hear strange chanting outside. Some guy was chanting in the dark outside.... I heard him chant the name shiva and thought fair enough shiva isn't Satan so maybe he won't sacrifice me in the night.... In the morning I went outside and made breakfast and a big fattie. The guy was camping right outside my tent and hadn't seen my tent in the dark. He awoke and was a lil freaked out to see me.... Glastonbury! All normal there!
All is normal is this weird and wonderful town! What a day that was... Mental. Thanks for watching and the comment 🙏
I felt at home there. Hippy's everywhere. Tie die. Herbal aromas...
@@PaulTheHermit77 absolutely... so did i! Hope you enjoy the upcoming adventures
Fair enough, Shiva isn't Satan - I want that on a t-shirt. 😄
Shiva…the main Hindi god.
The red and white springs are kept clean and drinkable. It's spring water, just like the stuff you buy in bottles in the supermarket. The red spring water doesn't keep that well, so better drunk fresh. That was a pretty fair appraisal of our beautiful town, you'd fit in well, not so sure about your mate Ben 😃. Be aware that people come from far and wide to the variety of cosmic conferences held over the summer. Beneath all the cosmic nonsense is a community with a heart of gold.
Kind words mate thanks 🙏 I'll certainly be back in the summer. Thanks for watching and the comment

Glastonbury is amazing no coincidence it was the location of the first lock down protest in the uk, I'm aware of, to expose Convid psyop Glasto is awake
Shocking and sad that many people don't understand the importance and power of pure Water.
Definitely! Don't drink or cook in tap water... If you can get a filter on your shower as well even better! Thanks for watching
I used to fill up my containers from the springs every day to use 😊
Brits are so different from GERMANS OR THE FRENCH ❤️
Glastonbury is one of my favourite places to visit. I've never been to the festival, I just go for the town and the tor, I love the atmosphere and all the quirky personalities. The town is so clean and full of gorgeous independent shops and cafés. I love the lamp shop, art shops and hemp shop as well as all the crystal and book shops of course. There is also so much to see in the surrounding areas x
Thanks for sharing!! Some amazing things to do! Thanks for watching and the comment. I hope you enjoy the content and upcoming adventures
I regularly visit. It’s a beautiful feeling just being there. People are so friendly. And they are welcoming of dogs. There’s a place not to far called Rockaway at Temple cloud I highly recommend you visit. It’s like a huge community of incredible people. That water is incredible. I used to collect and drink it regularly. It has no fluoride no oestrogen no cocaine which your vile tap water is full of
A truly unique place! Thanks for watching and the comment. I agree about tap water!!
I read the title and my mind went straight to Glastonbury.. drum circles in main roads.. signs by historical buildings asking people to keep their clothes on.. 😂 and not a Greggs in sight 👍
Haha if you know, you know! Utter craziness, thanks for watching and the comment
Went through there in the late 60s to go on the annual family holiday, not been since and still looks relatively the same.seems a friendly place, the land time forgot. These hippies are completely normal to what you saw in the 60s, then, long kaftan, bells around the neck,Indian sandals, cloth headbands and John lennon glasses and that was just the men and loads of afghan coats even in summer. My traditional boring dad nearly had a meltdown at the sight of them, calling them unemployable layabout students who would never get a job in the real world. Mum called them dirty lot. I bet they all ended up as architects and maths teachers😊
Who needs greggs when ya got Burns the Bread..😂
Can't beat burns the bread ❤
love that the video is 11 minutes & 11 seconds! 🙌💚
😁
That's not weird it's... "normal for Glastonbury". 😉
The water at Chalice Well won't give you any problem at all. In fact, the thing to do is to bring a bottle and fill it half way from the white spring then full the rest up from the red spring which is just across the road!
Yes definitely get best of both then. Thanks for watching
When I saw your thumbnail I straight away said you are in Glastonbury. I love it there I have been many times although not recently. Thank you for sharing this it made me smile and brought back many memories 💜
That's awesome to hear thanks for the kind words! Hope you enjoy future adventures
U could've walked up the tor mate, shown people what Glastonbury is about...
I did was raining and couldn't film... Honestly viewers find the town far more interesting than the Tor.
Other than the Tor I did everything to do in Glastonbury. But unfair to say I didn't show the real Glastonbury.
Thanks for showing this town I have never been to. I could easily have watched for ½ hr. 🙂
Thanks for the kind words! The weather was awful was a real struggle filming between the showers! Thanks for watching and the comment. Hope you enjoy the content
@@JoefishJ You're welcome! It looked quite green - was it recorded this year? :) In that case, spring comes early in Glastonbury.
PS: I think Ben was a bit of a chicken when he didn't want to sample the water. 😄 I'd have filled a jug to go.💦
I live just 20 miles from Glastonbury and have been through it many times. I feel it has become a commercialised touristy hub, nice place, crazy visitors and VERY expensive trinkets.
Agreed commercialised like alot of locals of Glastonbury has said. Thanks for watching
Yep, I grew up about 15 miles away and go back at least twice a year, and it’s almost become a parody of itself now. Some of the old interesting shops are still there, but there are so many other shops that are all filled with the exact same clothing brands for increasingly crazy prices. But, there are some great cafes and restaurants there as well!
Awesome, that whole area of the south west of england is very special and magical.
I visited a few years ago it was an amazing trip.
It really is! Thanks for watching and the comment hope you enjoy the content
I Seen you on Another CZcamsrs Channel Recently thats crazy how i now found your Video too Small world we live in Hey Good luck on your travels dude !
Welcome aboard! Small world indeed! Thanks for watching and the comment. I hope you enjoy my content 🙏👊
Water fountains used to be available countrywide years ago but has declined
Such a shame! Thanks for watching
An absolute classic you're best vlog yet . An amazing place .
Nice one thank you 🙏
Same as, me lol beautiful place
Glastonbury has a heart of gold......
Some very friendly folk!
Well, it was either going to be Glastonbury or Totnes. Lived in Totnes for a few years and definitely recommend the market days - especially the Yule markets (Christmas markets). Wonderful and weird town, Totnes has a unique energy of it's own.
Happy travels ❤
The 2 places in the UK that are probably more divorced from reality than anywhere else! Middle class, well off hippy types, that dont give a shit about others, and are living in their own comfortable bubbles!
Totnes can't compete with Glastonbury on uniqueness! Love Totnes though. Thanks for watching and the comment
@@JoefishJ definitely, Glastonbury is pure alternative gold. It was your comment about stepping into Harry Potter World that made me chuckle - that's exactly how I felt on the first Totnes Christmas Market I went to ... definitely witches and wizards galore and a Hagrid or two 🤣 It's a town full of rainbows and fairy dust with a fragrant green haze to greet you. 🌈💚 xxx
Did you know that butts were the targets used for archery practice? So anywhere called The Butts was where people went to practice archery. (It’s still funny though!)
Thanks for watching until the end I really appreciate that! I didn't at the time of filming, but I just couldn't resist the child inside took over for a second 😂👍
@@JoefishJ well I’m old enough to know better and I still love a childish joke. Check out Tittensore in the map that always makes me laugh!
Thank you for such a lovely review of my home town really enjoyed it Steve
Glad you enjoyed it thanks for watching and the comment 👍
Very beautiful and interesting place.🙂 Great video, thanks for the tour!
Awesome thanks for the kind words 🙏 glad you enjoyed!
Loved this! If I went shopping there, I'd never come home. Subscribed!
Haha 😂 thanks for watching and the comment
Really appreciate the positive vibe Joe. There are far too many people on YT these days who focus only on the worst parts of the UK. I know lots of places in the UK are experiencing bad times, but some YT entities try to give the impression that the whole country is in a state of decay. Content does not have to be negative.
Thanks for the kind words and support 🙏
Much as i like Glastonbury...the only time in my life i had my purse and all my I.D stolen was by a 'hippy' in Glastonbury. ( And ive lived in north and south london, no problem )Its a beautiful place but the lesson i learned was that sometimes being a hippy is a very good disguise - you' ve still got to have your wits about you.
You can never be too careful! Thanks for watching and the comment! I hope you enjoy the rest of the content
Those springs are healing waters, they have run for thousands of years and both come out of the torr, which is in itself "magical".
😂🤣😂 I’m sure they’d bottle it and sell it if they could get enough people to believe that, although I’m sure there are some who do believe it even if it doesn’t heal them
Do you know why they are called holy Wells, because they have been known as waters with healing properties for thousands of years,I always go there nearly every year and it sorts my stomach out. And people have bottled it and sold it at Glastonbury festival
Thanks for watching, really enjoyed the white spring water... The red not so much.
They do bottle and sell it.
(maybe just the white spring) is also fed through a water tank and I believe some treatment is done to it. I also thought maybe one of the masons add something to it and that's why everyone is so crazy there :D "there's something in the water".
P.s. The vikings believed that the tor was the entrance to hades (hell)
thanks for sharing. wish more of the uk was like this, beautiful place.
Glad you enjoyed it thanks for watching and the comment. Hope you enjoy the content
Unfortunately most of the UK is full or tories!
One of my favourite places ❤❤❤❤
Definitely thanks for watching
Love Glastonbury .. the chalice well gardens are stunning .have stayed in the George and pilgrim too
A beautiful place! Thanks for watching and the comment. Hope you enjoy the content
I like Glastonbury. Especially the George and Pilgrims pub, where's it rumoured Henry VIII was sat in watching the abbey burn.
Always a positive vibe in that place, although the actual residents of Glastonbury aren't usually that keen on it!
Mental place... Bonkers experience, thanks for watching and the comment mate.
i,m a local, the locals love the vibe an the alternative, what they don,t like is benchers openly taking drugs and pushing them on tourists!! Getting youngsters to pedal the drugs for them or the drinking binges until the early hours of the morning, or the violence that happens because of the benchers!!! Most of them don,t even come from Glastonbury! most druggies (benchers) use Glastonbury for its so called reputation of a free spirited town! yes in most ways it is but these few bring the place down!!
Nice and positive
Thanks 🙏👍
At around 2:40 - poor doggies! 😭
Didn't notice I'll take a look again...
Glastonbury rocks and go alpacas! I live in London, wish Glasto was closer. Still, I visit at least three times a year, love chatting with the locals. Excellent vid, thank you ✨
It certainly does!! Really awesome place. Thanks for watching and the comment
Berry's coaches cheap enough. Take almost 4 hours
One thing you mustn't forget is the surrounding Somerset is conservative, parochial, and five years behind the rest of the world. When I was a child, my brother and I would pop into a specific shop and marvel at the Dungeons and Dragons RPG books. At the time, they couldn't be found anywhere else in northern Somerset.
Thanks for watching and the comment
Great video again Joe, you come across as such a chill guy and your rapport with the people you interview reflects that. Most people just think of Glasto as the festival place but it’s good to see the real town being highlighted. Keep up the good work 👍🏼
I appreciate that thank you for the kind words and for watching! Hope you enjoy the content
Proper job is about the most useful shop in central Glastonbury if you are still normal. Once upon a time there was also a good surplus shop at the top of the high street on the left, but it disappeared along with a few other good shops. We are overrun by charity shops and witch shops. Gigi's is good if you want normal food as well. None of these ever get a mention on these types of video, so in case you are visiting, that's the deal.
Proper Job is the best shop in my town too! Thanks for watching and the comment
Another great vid, thanks.
Even more subs, keep going.
All the best from Southend
Awesome thanks for the kind words and for watching! See you on the next one amigo
Fantastic video Joe! Keep up the great work
Awesome thanks for the kind words
How in the World did I miss THIS one?! This is GREAT! I so want to go to Glastonbury now. Great job, Joe! Jen
Hey my favourite Jen! Thanks so much for the support! Glasto is a crazy place, no where like it on earth! Thanks for watching and the kind words 🙏
Glastonbury is amazing. Can't wait to go back! 🔮
A very crazy place! Thanks for watching and the comment
On Wearyall hill , near by you can see a thorn bush grown from the staff of Joseph of Arimathea. He is also meant to have brought the Holy Grail there ( the cup used by Jesus at the Last Supper)
Awesome i had no idea... such an intriguing place! Will definitely head back in the summer!
I think you will find the thorn was destroyed..a property developer suspected
Butt close. Lol. Enjoyable jaunt around Glastonbury, there is certainly an aura & a "vibe" about the place I can't quite put my finger on. I can almost smell the pachouli oil. Whitby in Yorkshire has similar quirky vibe. Good to see the town at street level , lots of people may just pass by or quickly pass through, ecspecially during the festival. I can't really call myself a "hippy", but I have a bit of a soft spot for fairy tales etc. I've been called Pixie & Tinkerbell, so maybe I would fit in well at the ball. Some of those costumes are out of this world. Nice one👍
Haha yes the 'butt close' joke... First to mention that! Thanks for the kind words 🙏 glad you enjoyed the video!
I love the weird and wonderful.
You'll love Glasto then, absolutely bonkers. Thanks for watching
Amazing. Really want to go there.
You fit in with Ben and his people so well. Very glad to see you now as part of them. Love the history, didn't know about the water!
The fact you know about Joseph of Arimathea and his role is amazing. Also, legend has it he brought a young Jesus with him to England, and that's why the Celts converted so easily to Christianity when it came here.
Thanks for the kind words that's awesome to hear! I love history and feel that if people knew a little more of their local history they may be more inclined to care about their local surroundings. Thanks for watching
Joe Fish next time your in Glastonbury you need to go up the Tor, well worth the hike up
I did but it was raining heavily so unfortunately couldn't film. Thanks for watching and the comment. Will definitely be back in the summer
Thanks for the video, truly amazing place.
It really is bonkers! Thanks for watching and the comment

I didn't go to the fairy thing as its not my thing but I was in the King William on that Saturday night and did meet a few strange people lol. Keep the coming like your content dude😎👍

Subbed!! Thanks for showing me where to go for may day!
Thanks for the sub my pleasure. Have a good time, I'm sure you will!
Did you go up Glastonbury Tor? The view from up there is pretty cool.
I did but it was raining heavily so I couldn't film unfortunately! The whole day was a struggle with the off and on showers!
@@JoefishJ That's a shame (but fairly typical of British weather). Well done for making the trip, though!
I think that kind of weirdness is everywhere in Britain and Ireland. It is just more secret and not well known in a lot of other places.
A land of mystery and legend for sure! Thanks for watching and the comment
Thank you for sharing i need to visit, haven't been here since i was a small child.
You should it's a crazy place. Thanks for watching

I live in Glastonbury, and i have a video clip of a beautiful fairy that touched me on my back 🧚♂️❤️🙏🏼🤗
Wow incredible would love to see it!
I’m that fairy in her video…
We used to have a shop in Glastonbury, Colour of Sound if anyone remembers us. It’s a different place if you live and work there, more to it than you get from a casual visit. A lot is quite commercialised nowadays, but where isn’t…at least it’s fun and friendly. I miss it, never felt so much a part of things anywhere else. The water by the way is from two different sources, the red and white springs. The red is iron rich. Both much purer than anything from a tap! I used to use it for everything except bathing when I was there. If you visit again, go up the tor and also visit Chalice Well Gardens 😊
Thanks for sharing your local insight. Thanks for watching and the comment
i love the art u get from these shops

I haven't been down there for Donkeys years, and it looks like it ain't changed much.
Check it out, very unique!
Another very good video Joe!
We went here recently, after someone I know, said they do a great Sunday roast in Hotel, at bottom of High Street, and is dog-friendly!
We were not that impressed, but stopped for a coffee in the time we had.
Parking was stupid money, at £12 in central car park on a Sunday afternoon!
Parking apps had no cheap places, although local Morrisons was cheap.
Why don't you do crap town Taunton, where I was born, but have moved out as it is so awful & cliquey!
I do go there about once a month, for a haircut, and a great meal in Little Italy in the Pig Market, though!
Awesome thanks for the kind words 👍🙏
I live in Glastonbury...how did you not show the Tor 🤦🏻
It was raining terrible all day off and on it was such a struggle to film. I did head up but unfortunately it was chucking it down so I couldn't film. Will definitely do it on my return in the summer.

Like wow man! We have a similar experience not far away in West Yorkshire called Hebden Bridge - a Northern Hippie Haven. I keep up to date with things via Glastonbury Gabriel's channel. I've been a few times, last time was for the festival in the 80's. I stayed after to clear up, so much trash for so many hippies who "love the Earth" - I think they've missed something. Many left full camping set ups, not cheap either! I go by works not words. For your edification I think you'll find that latter Romans brought "Christianity" to the UK in the late 3rd and early 4th century AD. Later was St. Columba 521 to 597ad who was said to bring "Christianity" to Scotland in the 6th century.
Very cool! This place was insane! Thanks for watching and the comment. Hope you enjoy the content
