The era of DVDs are long gone. Got replaced by BDs over a decade ago. And BDs never really caught on because HDDs are superior.

You should absolutely watch The Lost Boys. It is very worth it. I watch it nearly every Halloween. The 1931 Bela Lugosi Dracula is worth watching at least once. And the Spanish version that was filmed during the night on the same set is interesting too. And as for the fabulous Drusilla, she was weakened after she was captured by a mob in Prague.

Excellent summary why physical still works. Who wants to subscribe to five to ten services monthly just to cover your bases for watching a movie. I still collect movies but weed out the ones and done. Usually picked up uber cheap at the flea market.

My brother is such a hipster, he suffers from a type of repetitive strain injury unique to baristas, so he had to retire from that and now owns a coffee roasting firm. He looks like a vegan biker, and his missus looks and dresses like she just came in from the dust bowl. Their son eats raw broccoli as a _treat,_ and while the kid isn't Trans, he has often been mistaken for a girl. He doesn't have to worry about being bullied though, because hipsters still constitute the largest demographic in his town. In fact they _live_ in a country that seems to have a disproportionate number of hipsters! And I _so_ hope none of them read this.

The only streaming service I'd want to use if I'm living on my own is Tubi. Sure Tubi can take movies and shows out or change things, but at least it's free. I relate to missing DVDs and wanting to buy physical media again, after years of thinking, "Thank god we have streaming services now. I don't have to worry about having tons of DVDs to store or keep from scratching or worry about buying each one I want to watch. This is so much cheaper and more convenient." Boy was I wrong as a teenager.

Gen X here. The short socks slip down under your feet, don't get how people can even wear them. They don't look good either. I vote for crew socks or tights/pantyhose.

We are too old to be giving a damn about socks. Long socks in the winter, and on shoes that hurt your ankle. Short socks in the summer. Like please be serious.

As a millenial, I had to stop wearing skinny jeans because I got too fat and then when I lost weight, got too muscular. Had to stop wearing no show socks because they wouldn't stay in place and would fall down your feet eventually. Honestly this is probably why those trends died... They weren't practical or comfortable and people just got sick of it.

I recently learnt about The Sock War as I realised I needed to buy a new pair of trainers. I've become very out of touch with trainer fashions so I've had to do a lot of research and try lots of different pairs on. I watched a few videos of Gen Z fitness women reviewing trainers and noticed they all wear those mid calf socks. When I was young that would have been considered incredibly uncool, it was a 'dad fashion.' I've realised that all the trends Millennials thought of as uncool, Gen Z have declared cool, as a way to differentiate themselves from us - ie they wear high waisted, short trousers (both fashion crimes in the 90s and early 2000s), gold jewellery even when they have pale cool toned skin (a look which was considered chavvy back in the day). They also wear cycling shorts with socks pulled up, big clompy trainers, often have unusual haircuts all of which were unacceptable to the fashion police back then.

I have a ton of crew socks but only ever wore them in the winter. I was shamed out of wearing them in the summer. I will try to find the courage to try to put some on now that Gen Z will allow me.

Very interesting topic. I never thought about the fact that Robin Williams, ie, a comedy genius, only won an Oscar when he played a dramatic role, which he was great in by the way. I just want to point out, though, that Mozart was thirty-five, not twenty-seven, when he died. ‘Still very young, though. Also, those musicians, Hendrix, Joplin, Morrisson, etc, while their audience was mostly made of of Boomers, were themselves members of the Silent Generation.

People are wild. I hate socks in general because I’m super autistic and have sensory issues about them that are exacerbated by crew socks. The only reason I don’t forego socks entirely is not wanting my shoes to smell worse.

Thanks for a few laughs in such weird times! I guess my sock game has never been trendy - I went out of my way in high school (in the 90s) to get the primary color striped white athletic socks that were calf/knee high from the 70s/80s and definitely wore them not ironically. I can't recall exactly when it happened, but knee socks are my optimal sock. I do own shorter crew socks with fun designs or colors but my ideal sock is knee high or the slouchy socks that give that 80s look with skirts. The two socks which I will never understand are ankle and no show - the dammed things will never stay on my foot - only to be sucked up into the toe box of my shoes making me hate them with a passion. Crew socks are the bare minimum to resist the sliding of the socks down my foot but why get those when you can have knee socks? And of course white socks. There is no place for white socks.

I like the crew socks trend, and I think people look super cute when they sport them. Definitely noticed it was younger people wearing the look. I feel too old for it now. Let gen z have their moment.

keep your dvd player keep collecting dvds, dont let your future children miss out on the experience of rewatching dvds, experience the opening a dvd an reading the little booklets or stare at the fold out posters for moments on end

Also, I noticed that your "cold open" was quite extended for this installment (4:15ish?). As an SNL fan, I quite enjoyed this. And while I've always been hooked by your production/editing as much as your content, I almost spilled my martini when I heard the audio treatment for "Sh*touttaluck" whereby the censoring beep and the questionable language essentially occupied the same sonic space. From a New York City manfan of indeterminate age and very determinate taste, I thank you for knocking my socks off.

Apparently DVD’s rot and malfunction? Another channel covered the garbage Warner Brothers put out for years. 🫴 People need to check the quality of the DVD’s they buy. Knowing the quality is important if you’re saving them. 🫡 I’ll link the video if I find it.

I was born in 1965, so I'm not sure which is my tribe. All I can say is that I absolutely hate no show socks and ankle socks, whoever wears them deserves to be mocked!!! moreover, there's something to add: 1) for about all the XX century, men who wore even crew socks were mocked and pulled back by women, a real elegant man NEVER wore short socks (I mean under long trousers, and especially with a suit); 2) I'm absolutely angry with women who wear socks (of any length) instead of pantyhose or stockings!!! Who is the jerk who stated that doing so they are more sexy???? They aren't!!! My attraction for women went down with the jerky socks fashion!!!

I like all socks, I'm millennial, ankle are nice in the summer and skinny jeans. I like longer socks in the spring, bc gets cold and then warm so long socks act like layers. I never cared about being a trendsetter I was never hip in high school I dress very practical. But don't think I a lot of gen Z actually only the people who chronic online. But hay I wish this the only I had worry about. A lot of people have different preference, someone texture issues. So I would worry about more about teens/kids being bullied. I anyways I think its better to have different options rather trend people should pick what makes feel good and look good.

I remember Volcano. It seems like there were a lot of disaster movies in the late 90s. You had Armageddon, Deep Impact (one of my favorites), Twister, Independence Day...BTW love the Gen Z sympathizers bit, or jenz sympathizers as the captions put it!😂

Another advantage of owning DVD/BluRay is the added content. You will never see that on streaming. A lot of the better movies will have added content that will enhance the movie experience. Recommend: The Iron Giant 👍
