"Backfishing" is going to be videos about coming full circle. I was an avid bank fisherman in my younger days but now re-learning new techniques in the different fisheries. Please join me on solo journeys or adventures with friends. I've realized having experiences and adventures is large part of living life. I look forward to sunsets, nature, fishing and enjoying the process of learning which I'm willing to share to viewers. Thank you to all the CZcamsrs from the Bay Area and Northwest fishing channels. You all have inspired me to do what I missed most. You guys are awesome! Continued success to you all. Life's hustle and bustle take us away from what we enjoy most. Get out there and do you. Salamat, Mahalos, and Thank you.

Nice catch.
Night fishing, you can't beat it! Beautiful evening and views, nice video!
Agree. Thanks for the comment.
Awesome catch!! Are metals ur go to for stripers?
Metals when birds and bait are around but I've seen people just use lucky crafts, calisas, bucktails and other lures. This how we use to fish in the early 80's. GL 🤙🏽🤙🏽
Nice view of China beach
Didn't visit this time around in July. Do you know if they are done with landscaping?
used to be Berkeley pier before it closed down
Probably agree. Heard good stories.
I focused on the docks this season, so I missed fishing with you. When I did go to the park, it was a day you didn't, but you know who always was there...Raymond.
Raymond is a fixture. LOL
You caught one fish every 12 minutes for the first hour, excellent! Great video and tips!
Excellent ratio during Peak season on the big W. Usually every 5 min for me but you kinda need to be on your game. Love going to this area which is much closer than Bonneville D.
Great video! It was still good into the first week of July there! I use my shad for crab bait so I don't bleed them. Have you noticed any difference in the bled shad as opposed to whole when using for crab bait? I'm very excited that my son's Angler's & Shellfish Licenses came from his caseworker via the state last week. Hopefully I will convince him to head to the coast for a day trip in the coming weeks. A good time to try to use up some of the old shad from last year and clear space in the chest freezer!
Late run on the W. The fish I kept was going to be smoked and pressure cooked. I guess if your going to steam it or cook fresh it would make a difference having them bled. These were going to be smoked and canned. I'm sure it wouldn't make a big difference. Congrats on the license and soon be able to go use those year old shad for crabbing. Should work just fine. 🤙🏽🤙🏽
Idk how this guy gets away with fishing in closures. I know the tourists don’t know and it doesn’t affect them directly, but it sure does affect everyone else that lives here. Especially those of us who fish and choose to play by the rules.
It’s totally worth it to go fish at Bonneville! Just depends on conditions and season.
Agree 100% if your wanting more fish. No comparison to fish count at Bonneville. Love fishing with you and thank you for the tips over the years.
There’s still shad there ?
Not as abundant this time. Maybe 2 or 3 in the early morning or late evening.
Good Video 😊. I will miss the PNW. Lived here all my. Retired, moving to the Philippines 🇵🇭. Selling my house, truck and all my fishing 🎣 gear. Keep the video's comin..
I went to PI in February, tried shore fishing there and very surprised at the lack of fish from shore. Jigging just offshore is the best for bigger fish which I wasn't able to do. Good luck to you. Thanks for your comment.🤙🏽🤙🏽
The big W is not exactly a backyard creek :) I don't shad fish a ton so this stuff is fun to watch and informative for me - thanks for another fun vid.
Thank you for your comment. If someone can use the information, I am very happy. The big "W" wins this battle especially travel time and catch. 🤙🏽🤙🏽
You could have gotten your fishing license ONLINE.
Thought I could. Next time. Thanks 🤙🏽🤙🏽
WOW. Nobody is there! I wish I had made it out to Bonneville this year. Just a little over a week ago was my last trek to the Back Yard river and I got those 5 shad in a little over an hour. The first jig I tried wasn't producing (white shad dart with red head) so I switched to the Chartreuse Shad Dart with dark green head and BOOM... 3 shad back to back. I lost three after that so close to the river bank but oh well, it was fun1 The last two I caught with a Chartreuse dart with red head. I think I could have caught more but my time was up. On an earlier trip to the back yard river I had success with the 1/32 jig heads (with brass hooks) I picked up at BiMart and have a powder coating setup so I coated a handful of hot pink and chartreuse jig heads. I put a very tiny (like 1/2") swim tail grub on those and the shad love them. The grubs are either hot pink or chartreuse and I pair them up with the opposite color jig head. I didn't have the right size hooks to try your awesome setup from earlier in the season. I'll try next year. Have you tried the red circle hook with a chartreuse bead tied above the hook? I saw that in a Washington Dept of Fish & Game post somewhere and thought I should try that next year too. We lucked into a free shellfish and fishing license for my adult son through his disability caseworker and my next goal is to find a creative way to introduce him to crabbing! That will solve my inability to get out to the coast for sure! Great video as always, Hale'!
You did well in the backyard. Way to go RB. 🤙🏽🤙🏽
Where did you buy your net to protect the fish from flies?
Any fabric store should have it. Comes in a big roll in which they cut can according to your needs. GL
Nice job!!!
Thank you for the comment. 🤙🏽🤙🏽
Good to see you pal🎣💙💪
When the count is going down, late season and fishing mid day. That's a bad combo. ✌🤣
good job. do you have link to purchase shad Jig? thanks
It's really late in the season to go Bonneville but you can go Bi-Mart, Sportsmans Warehouse, Cabela's, Fisherman's Marine and WalMart.
Great content buddy, I see another not hooked in the mouth! 😂
LOL...you taught me how to do that. That's art and technique especially on the back. 😂 When I saw you last...I told you it was slow and it was like a Ghost town out there. Unlike when it is peak season shoulder to shoulder. I even still managed to lose a fish with two guys next to me. Still fun without the crowd. 🤙🏽🤙🏽
Can I come fish with you. New to salmon plunking and just looking to hang out/learn a bit.
Better in the Fall. Hit me up then. 🤙🏽🤙🏽
Where is that in tillamook
Nice work on Landing that Hallabit.
Heard rumor they caught 14 yesterday. That's productive.
They spawn the same time the the black bass do which is during the spring
Wow good idea I might go there😊
Going their this saturday early morning. What is the best bait to use for snare traps on crabbing and best bait for fishing out there in the pier???
Sorry late notice. Squid combo with fatty chicken parts or frozen anchovies are my go to. GL
@@BackFishing thank you so much bro!
Thanks for the detailed video! I tried this method even though I'm not new to smoking but this recipe was by far the best tasting shad I ever had! About to make another batch of shad I caught for the same method
Thank you. I'm glad it worked out for you. Shad is so underrated. Lots of history about shad with George Washington in the colonial days. It's such a cool fish.
Loved the video. Im inspired to up my Chad game. I spent double the time on the river and caught half the # of fish. Had fun doing it but landing higher numbers would be the next step. I've tried most of the lures except for the chrome swivel with siwash hook. That thing seems effective. Where can I find them?
Fisherman's, sportsman's, cabela's. Gamakatsu Siwash hooks size 8 and any chrome swivels 1/2" length. 🤙🏽🤙🏽
@@BackFishing thank you!! Hoping to get out one last time to Bonneville before the run ends!!
@@m10_g0at If your close to Portland. Hit Clackamas Park across Fishermans Marine. Best times to fish are 7pm to 8:30 pm. Make sure you bring a rod that can cast 3/4 ounce at least 75 yds for better river drift. Catch rate is usually 1 fish every 10 min or so. GL
@@BackFishing thx for the heads up. I visited that place after watching one of your videos. I'll be passing through town tomorrow evening and actually was planning on it. . If you're not doing much Wednesday morning come out to Bonnieville!
@@m10_g0at Out of town in CA. I was at Bonneville last Monday. It was slow but you can still catch your shad.
For those people that may want to fish here, you are NOT allowed to fish from straight out from walls towards the Natatorium. That is closed permanently, so even if you hook up to a fish, It must not bite from the Diamond Head side of Walls, you can only bring it up on the Ewa side towards the Duke Kahanamoku Statue. The guy shooting this video should have held the line and fish, till the fisherman, released line while cameraman held fish there, and Paul went on the beach towards Ewa and pulled the 'omilu from an angle through the opening. He's lucky the DLNR weren't there, they would confiscate this film as evidence, and then charge and fine Paul. Not sure what the amount would be.
That's a great idea. I would have held the line no problem.
thank you for sharing!
Glad someone is able to try it. 🤙🏽🤙🏽
And that’s why it’s called fishing and not catching
😎
Local kids used McDs trays since they came to the Islands.I'm 56 and used it small kid time.
🤙🏽🤙🏽
great underwater video, barely see it from other youtubers. How far did your gopro from bank?
10 feet out, just dangled camera on the tip of the pole.
Paul is the number 1 guy always catching papio or ulua at this spot. Also catches some great waves too !
Braddah Paul good guy! 🤙🏽🤙🏽
Please refer to the DLNR Regulated Fishing Areas on Oahu webpage. No fishing in Waikiki MLCD at Anytime! See their map. The Waikīkī Marine Life Conservation District (MLCD) extends from the groin at Kapahulu Avenue(east side of Waikiki Walls) to the ewa wall of the Waikīkī War Memorial Natatorium. Do not confuse this area with The Waikīkī-Diamond Head Shoreline Fisheries Management Area (from Natatorium to Lighthouse) that allows fishing on even numbered years.
Odd an even years apply ahi point 💯 you straight illegal Braddah 🤣💯
How the sunscreen taste 🤣🤣🤣
That a cool fish spot with sink and running water , wish we had one of this in the east.
Awesome day when you get to see fish on the bank 👍
Good seeing out there Vu!
@@BackFishing yeah you too man. You’re doing good out there
What state did you fishing? And Which River?
Oregon. Willamette River and the biggest run is on the Columbia River Bonneville Dam.

Aloha, my husband and I just found your videos! So awesome, just subscribed... Didn't even know you could catch crab like that😲 We're planning a quick trip in either Aug/Sept... It's shad season again!! Great fun and good times up there :) my best day for shad was up there when I landed 153 shad in just over 3.5 hours a few years ago. Absolutely insane fun! :)
Crazy action.
Whay brand of rods are you using? I can't fined rods like you are using anywhere
Rainshadow I got on Offerup. It is in the description (Baton Enterprises in WA). I just got lucky. Look into Cabela's and other big stores. Okuma I believe makes SST 12' rods. Anything for sturgeon. You will be casting out 8 oz - 12 oz. of weight. Hope that helps. GL
@BackFishing I've been looking for the sst 12'3 but I may need to order it just always see guys out there with 13 ft rods with long handles
@@charlescook94 Most of them put extension on the butt end of the rod.
@BackFishing good to know unfortunatelyi dont have the luxury to have enoigh soace to customize my rods at the moment, but hey It was nice seeing you in the OC fishermans btw sure was a pretty nice hen you brought in. hope to see a video soon on that catch
@@charlescook94 Like wise. GL
How tight or loose should the drag be when ur just waiting for the fish to bite the hook
Just enough were the fish does not snap your line but tight enough so when you go to set the hook the drag stays put. Hope that answers your question.
Anyone know where this would be? Ive been snaring and using rings, only 2 this year so far just a little over 5 3/4 i just want 3 damn big ones i dont need alot tired of not getting any crab after 6 hrs of sitting.
