I am so excited to share my thoughts about the excellent novel Ordinary Human Failings. I will dive into the themes, characters and events of the novel. How does alcoholism, beauty, postpartum depression affect the story? What does it mean to have hope and what does it mean to not? How does the sensationalizing of true crime affect those involved? What will a journalist do for a story? Author I...

    Hi Kier! Sorry it's taken me so long to check your video, I've been a been absent lately! Great to see your thoughts on some of the books. I was so pleased to see Elliott's book on the list and getting some hype - although I do feel that after reading the book, I thought it wasn't weaved together as well as I would have liked it, but I really appreciated what it was trying to do! I want to see what's next for Elliott! I'm so happy that you gave In Defence of the Act!! I'm finally getting back to it to finish it now :) I did love 8 Lives! Like you said the framing device was well done! Like And then she fell I thought the way it was weaved was something weird, but it made me want to keep going to figure things out.

Brotherless Night is so good, and I was thrilled to see it win. It's been interesting to hear other booktuber's thoughts on A History of Burning. It wove its way into the hearts of many readers, and yet for me that was the least engaging of the 5 shortlisted nominees. Last part of my research entirely in surprising and knowing where characters end up by time histories are re called . Theme or ordinary human failing is personal challenges of many of us face in our lives , but largely ignored obstacles that society seem to expect us to just get on - like missing parental figures , alcoholism, teen pregnancy, lost love . Points of pain that could be handled with support or prove disasterous if left unaddressed. This book to push harder at term ordinary not only suggested that human for us to struggle with things beyond our control. But really important of removing societal shames and general lack of aid , understanding stand in way of people getting needed life , altering help . Megan Nolan ( born in 1990 ) she is Irish journalist and author from county Waterford . Her debut novel acts of desperation was longlisted for Dylan Thomas prize and shortlisted for Betty trask award for debut novel . Iam so sorry to be little long but reading and writing both are great ways to improve our English as non native speakers. Best wishes for you your dearest ones .

Thank you for your wonderful literary cultural channel. I gathered main theme of novel you mentioned and literary analysis I read on line elephant literary , author biography briefly here it’s ordinary human failing plot summary about ten years old child is suspected of violent crime, her family nut face truth about their past in this haunting, psychological keen story about class , trauma , family secrets from huge literary talent kanausgaard and internally best selling author Megan Nolan. This novel won women prize for fiction. Literary critic as selected key points girl aged ten is accused of heinous crime , entire family implicated behind, running parallel to this disaster .we follow slimytry hard reporter . This story goes several directions that failed to hold our interest . First own way motherhood story , offering few perspective we think are important, especially regarding woman health care issue . Book is ripping family saga , lives slotting together seamlessly and ruinously. Again we can see lot of readers appreciating this part of narrative. We can found characters backgrounds .

      I accidently jumped over And Then She Fellon my top books but I saw a lot of the British people call it confusing when I don't know if as Canadians we enjoyed it more because we understood the context and culture she was writing in more. Because it tackles many topics but I didn't feel like it was too crowded.

      @@KierTheScrivener Ooh interesting. I guess not having as much context on the creation story or just general relations between Indigenous peoples and the rest of Canada could maybe throw people off if they go into it without too much knowledge. But I didn't find it too confusing, not any more so than any sort of story with magical realism/paranormal elements where you're not totally sure what's going on haha.

    • @KierTheScrivener
      @KierTheScrivener Před 2 měsíci

      @@TheFictionalSarah right! But I heard time and time again that it was confusing and everything was being thrown at them but I think it was confusing because Canada feels familar but so much of the nuance of culture and context is different.
