I can not believe you stayed up til 3 in the morning 😂😂😂 Dedication !!
I loved OHF and In Defence of The Act.
Love that you can read them all. I know how hard it is normally ❤
Loved hearing your thoughts and reactions.

Haha I'm a night hawk so it was late but not too much of a push. I'm sad we didn't get them but excited for the books we have. I know I'm so happy!
      Thanks ❤❤

Haha thank you! I love this style because I'm very chatty but in sit down videos I can come off as quieter but this style I get to chat and be excited more organically.

Excited with the list but very surprised! I predicted 4/6 correctly which pleases me but alas the list has left me with only 1/6 completed! Currently reading The Wren The Wren and I will go back and try again with Dolly and River. Still excited to pick up Brotherless Night and Enter Ghost. 😊📚

Ahhhh that is not a fun situation to be in. That happened to me last year where I had read 9 previously and only ended up with two on the list.
But with hosting, I bet there can be that pressure of wanting to have read them. Best of luck.
River East, River West really picks up near the end, I also really reccommend the audio. ❤❤

@@KierTheScrivener thanks Kier. I’m listening to River East River West again now, picked up where I left off as I was enjoying the audio I just didn’t think I cared enough about the characters initially. I also finished The Wren The Wren today so feel a bit better with 2/6 read. 😂

Oh good! I think the characters really develop over time. I felt disinterested and then was sobbing by the end.

Nobody expected Dolly 😂 I wonder if they thought, well we have all these dramatic and sad and experimental books so lets go with one that's just totally unoffensive and safe.

I'm sad to not see And Then She Fell and Hangman on there, but overall not a bad list! Very excited to read Brotherless Night, very excited that Enter Ghost made it in there and curious to see others' thoughts once I read all the books before the prize is announced!!!

I accidently jumped over And Then She Fellon my top books but I saw a lot of the British people call it confusing when I don't know if as Canadians we enjoyed it more because we understood the context and culture she was writing in more. Because it tackles many topics but I didn't feel like it was too crowded.

@@KierTheScrivener Ooh interesting. I guess not having as much context on the creation story or just general relations between Indigenous peoples and the rest of Canada could maybe throw people off if they go into it without too much knowledge. But I didn't find it too confusing, not any more so than any sort of story with magical realism/paranormal elements where you're not totally sure what's going on haha.

      @KierTheScrivener  Před 2 měsíci

@@TheFictionalSarah right! But I heard time and time again that it was confusing and everything was being thrown at them but I think it was confusing because Canada feels familar but so much of the nuance of culture and context is different.

@@KierTheScrivener @TheFictionalSarah I don't know. I'm a Norwegian living in the UK, and I didn't find And Then She Fell confusing. I lacked some context yes, but I could say the same for Brotherless Night. But I think And Then She Fell stretches the limits of literary fiction, and it's something that maybe a lot of people aren't used to reading. I loved it though. Sad it wasn't shortlisted.

That could be it as well. I am sad too!
