In this series of videos, I´ll show you the building process of our dream boat. It will be the perfect symbiosis of a water sports boat for a daytrip with friends and a place to stay for a few nights with a comfy bed. My bride and I love to stay on the water for a couple of days and with this boat we have everything we need for that. She gave me all her requirements and I made a design out of it.
The hull is 6.9 m long and 2.5 m wide, all made of marine grade aluminium, fully welded. Everything is planned, constructed and build by myself.
This will be a series of short videos documenting the building process, mostly time laps.

First ride of the year behind my home made boat. It was also the first overnight stay this year at about 4 °C in the night. I built this boat in 2019 all by myself, it is made of aluminium, 6 m long and the perfect combination of water sports fun and the ability to sleep on it for a few days.

Me too, dude, me too. I designed it completely myself. I also did know nothing when I first started, but you have to start somewhere. Getting used to CAD probably took the longest. Everything gets manageble when divided into small enough steps. Start small. 😉
@@alumawave what kind of CAD are you using? I use Fusion for everything, but i cant find a good way to design a plate boat..
I use SolidWorks, but the functionality should be the same in this regard. I have not found a good tutorial for boats, but there are enough tutotials for other odd shapes. Projected lines or 3D splines and patches are your friends.
@@alumawave Awesome work! I'm a design engineer at a yacht builder. Our favorite CAD software for hull design is Rhino 3D. It handles surface modeling better than solidworks or autodesk inventor / fusion 360. It has a learning curve because it a different approach to modeling because there's no history tree / timeline. I'd relate it to sketchup but 1000 times more capable. Plus Rhino is a one time purchase no annoying subscriptions lol. Keep up the great work, I'm excited to see how this comes together!
Thank you, I appreciate your input. Jep, surface handling in SW is quite delicate. I grew up with it, so I got used to it. But I will definitely look into Rhino, 90 days for the free trial is also nice to get a feeing.

Thank you! Material is for most parts 4 mm EN AW 5083 marine grade aluminium.

What thicknes the aluminum?
4 mm for the hull, everything structual and all horizontal surfaces, 3 mm for the rest.

Hi Ingo, der Rumpf und alle horizontalen Flächen sind 4 mm stark, senkrechte Teile 3 mm. Für einen Rumpf in dieser Größe ist aber alles zwischen 4 und 6 mm geeignet. Grüße ✌️

I think I’m caught up now but looking forward to the rest, is the boat a semi displacement hull, and how long and many hp motor is it designed for Cheers from Aus
This is a full planing hull, 7.3 m long and 2.5 m wide. It will probably get a 140 hp, but anything between 100 and 300 should fit the boat. Greetings from Germany
