Once some bulk has been removed, Start with the flute closed to bite into the wood and open it as you progress into the bowl. Stop when the lathe handle reaches the outside rim of your bowl Leave v-shaped rings at the bottom of the bowl for easy hollowing later
How long have you been turning? So far, I am just a dreamer. I have an older Delta lathe, but haven't been able to get it set up.
about 6 years!
I was surprised there was enough to make something. Nice!!!
As a ne turner I just found your CZcams channel and admire your artisan works. Are you still turning? And how do you like using a Vacumn chuck?
Great instructions. Some of the best I've heard. Thanks. Appreciate it.
Look at all those comments by people who love your narration and instructions. Plus you have such a pretty voice.
Good tutorial. Observation/Recommendation…helmeted face shield please all the time. I would be dead twice if not for wearing one. One just never knows when/how it will occur….but it will eventually. I’m 76 y/o and have been turning for 50 years. I was adjusting a blank on the lathe and slowly (under 300 rpm) testing the balance when it unexpectedly split and blew up. A large chunk slammed into my face shield right between the eyes. Please, please. Good video.
Nice!!!😊
I am a carpenter I want this job.
Those are wonderful lathes , I had just this same model some years ago....but on mine , I had to put a mirror on the wall behind it , so I could see what speeds I was turning at .when needed they hadn't moved it to the front yet. Great turning demo !
Awsome. Im just getting started. What's the air system for behind you? Whats the air for in the back of the lathe head
Why are you not wearing an approved smock for turning?
Oh no. Please tell me you don't have the same Producer as Ashly Hardwood. That turned out to be a disaster for her.
Why make hard work for yourself….all the excess wood should’ve been taken off on the band saw…
Great job, beautiful job using the bowl gouge. Thanks for the instructions on turning.
Thank you very much!
@lathedback I was very impressed on your skill using the bowl gouge, it was so smooth and clean, keep up the great work and I'm looking forward to you making another video.
Please talk to us. Tell us what you're doing.
Thank you for the feedback!
Love your videos and work. Some narration would be great. Tell us what you do and how to do it.
Working on it!
Excellnt!
Many thanks!
Very nice, well done.
Thank you very much!
Great video. Thank you!! Can you tell me where you got your face shield / respirator? Model number, etc.
It’s by Sundstrom. I’m not sure the model number
Love the video. Cringed when I saw the belt. If that caught it would pull your midsection into the lathe in an instant. Please consider doing something with the floppy loose ends.
Reminds me of the tons of Honey Locust I have. Good job.
Thank you!
Very well done and explained. My question is , once you started hollowing out the interior of the bowl, how much time did that take to do? TIA
A few minutes :)
Уважение!!!❤
I bought a small lathe two years ago but I'm afraid to take it out of the box. Now that I saw the lady at work making beautiful objects I made a decision. Because I am a very strong character I will sell the lathe and get a hot dog cart. I believe not to burn.
😉
@@lathedback No! Don't give in. Find a club and take some lessons. I promise you it's worth the effort.
Your technique is very good but was that a roughing spindle gouge you used on the inside of the bowl?
It’s a bottom bowl gouge
Great work and great equipment - tell me more about your mask please, I have allergies and need filtered air / thanks Dick Hampton from Denver NC
It’s a Sundstrom respirator :)
Hello LathedBack, I don't own a moisture meter, so I weigh my rough turned blanks with kitchen scales until they equalise. Nice demo. Best regards. 🙃
Thank you!
What Lathe is that?
Powermatic 2020b with a long extension!
What hose did you hook up to the head of the lathe? Was it a suction hose to help keep the bowl in place?
It’s a vacuum chuck 🙃
What are you wearing for protection?
Sundstrom respirator
Thank you so much for great video, happy New Year
Happy new year!
What kind of an air sander do you use and where can I get one?
Wood turners wonders! (Online). It’s the PROS mini.
Very instructive. Like all the info regarding geometry of how to hold the gouge.
Thank you very much!
Beautiful piece, i noticed what looked like a big crack on it (???) when you were turning, (@ 2.30 ish). Just wondering did you do anything to glue it or the like. Brilliant video, well done.
I used a little brown CA glue to fill the crack
An absolutely brilliant vid. Your explanations of everything (stand - hands etc) is probably as good if not the best online. You are bookmarked to watch again and again. 😉👏👏👏👏👏 (and again)
Wow, thanks!
Excellent video and you are an artist 🌲 too 😉 Beautiful lil bowl, must do it.
Thank you very much!
I like that wood 🪵 😊 good jobThank for 😊sharing
Thanks for watching!
I like that bowl good job 😊
Thank you! 😊
Amazing that’s way over my head but loved watching the process
Haha! Thank you!
Just this morning I thought I should bug you about posting..but then I think I send you a genuine 'you doing okay?' text... then I thought that I should wait till a decent hour... then I forgot... thank you sparing me those awkward genuine moments..😊
Reading this you would think that I don't speak english natively...
😂
Hi, beautiful bowl. I'm just starting to learn and I have a shopsmith. What was that orange hose you put into the lathe? Was it air pressure? if so why, what is it for? thanks
It’s a vacuum chuck
Wow, didn't know such a thing existed. I'll do some reading on it. thank you.. @@lathedback
It’s a deep deep rabbit hole!😆
I have a shopsmith so i can't use a vacuum chuck, but that is very cool. thanks @@lathedback
That looks amazing. You make it look simple.
Thank you!
Would you mind sharing the brand of right angle air sander you use? I like the compact form. Thanks
It’s PROS mini variable speed sander. I got it from Woodturners Wonders (online)
muy bueno😂
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!
Thank you!
great job! Where did you find that vacuum chuck?
It’s from Frugal Vacuum Chucks
Love that gentle taper
Thank you!
Very cool piece, by thw bye.
I wonder, what is the grey rest you use for your CBN wheel? Thanks!
It’s a tool rest by Stuart Batty
Wonderful watching you work! Which air flow headgear are you using and does it tend to dry your eyes out? Thanks!
Sundstrom. And no it doesn’t dry out my eyes.
