    That ATP 4.0 Lift kit, is it good? What size tires are you running with that lift? I just bought a New Jeep Compass Latitude 4X4 with the Altitude package 18" rims on Saturday 7/20/24 it has a 2.0L I4 TURBO engine. I was looking online for lift Kits and skid plates. I saw a 2" Rough country spacer lift kit and this 4.0 lift kit with coils and spacers for Jeep Renegade and Compass. $999 for the 4" ATP lift kit and $299 for the 2" Rough Country lift kit. I want to go off-roading here in HAWAII in the Lava rocks along the coast line where people go to catch lots of big fish. Some of the roads are worst than the trails that you guys are traveling lots of big holes and rocks. That's why I want to slowly buy skid plates, bigger all terrain tires, and a lift kit for my New Jeep Compass Latitude 4X4. Can you give me any recommendations please? It's not easy to find off-road parts especially since my Jeep Compass is Brand new. I originally was planning on buying a Jeep Wrangler but ended up getting the Jeep Compass because it was way cheaper. The Compass was $32,000 and I traded in my 2018 Subaru Impreza Sport Wagon that had 40,000 miles because it was too low to go off-roading. The dealership took it for $11,000 and I checked their website and they're selling it for $20,000 double of what they took it for trade in for the Jeep 😅 damn I could've sold it for a good amount of money then paid off my loan and used the rest for a down payment. Oh well, that's what happens when I don't think and just buy the first vehicle I test drive at the dealership 😅 now I gotta look for off-road Kits for my new Jeep Compass so I don't ruin it when I go off-roading on the rocky roads on the coast line here in Hawaii.

    The best crossover imo. Not everyone wants a big heavy body on frame SUV or a rock crawler since most of the time people drive on highways and would just need 4x4 for driving on lighter trails where a 2wd faced a harder time. It has good traction control and a center diff lock. Perfect for people who do light offroading and want the nimbleness of a normal road car. Regards a compass owner from India

    We just got a '21 Compass Trailhawk and looking forward to doing some camping like this. Girlfriend already wanting lift kit and bigger tires, haha. But yeah, that's a pretty interesting story you tell. I was stationed at Sheppard AFB, TX in the 1980s and that's literally right on the border with Oklahoma, when taking off to the north you'd be in Oklahoma shortly after takeoff. Anyways, not sure what she could have seen as Sheppard is/was mostly just a training base for pilots. But those little Tweets, as we called them, the little T-38s and T-37s are really quiet when at cruise but obviously they wouldn't be landing in a field. As far as my own experiences, most involved military-related stuff. Like being out 4-wheelin' in a remote area and coming up to a gate and nothing around but suddenly there's a paved road in the distance. Naturally I had to go look, so I drove through the open gate and got the paved part and just as I started to go around a large stand a trees to left of the road I saw the biggest radar or radio telescope of some kind that I ever saw. Like something out of that movie 'Contact', just out in the middle of nowhere. I quickly hauled ass out of there because visions of green figures with M16s were in my thoughts and I didn't want to be dragged away to a clandestine location for seeing something I wasn't supposed to. Another time, and this was in the same area but before I knew there was that dish thing. Me and a buddy were late night 4-wheeling on a Friday night and had stopped near a military range and we kept seeing something quiet going by. We were drinking, but weren't drunk, just was sitting out on the hoods of our trucks shooting the breeze and having a beer and checking out the stars and listening to nature... and suddenly he's like, "What's that light?" and at first I didn't see it, but it like probably 50 to 100 feet off the ground and would just blink every few seconds. It was an aerial vehicle of some kind, but no lighting except the one bright light that would flash every 3 seconds roughly. Could see it going over the nearby military range in the distance. And we were out there a couple hours. Whatever it was, it made about 4 passes through there periodically. The only sound was some kind of faint noise, whether from an engine or sound of the air passing over it, I don't know. Only thing we could figure is that it was either an aircraft of some kind or a missile, probably something like a cruise missile as they have the terrain-following radar on them like some planes do, that allow them to fly at a set altitude just off the ground. We started getting worried after a few passes, wondering if they could see or detect us. lol Started getting a little paranoid too about sitting on top of jacked up trucks and one of them fly over and take our head off, haha. I know they would bring aircraft out to this range for things like target practice and missile testing, but I have no clue what was flying that night. It was a new moon, so no light at all except starlight. So, you couldn't really see much of any kind of silhouette from it because it was so low, it was just blended in with the dark background of distant rolling forest and rolling plains. But yeah, after about the 4th pass that thing made we figured we better get out of there before green men of possibly extra-terrestrial variety showed up, lol. That was an anxious ride too as we were about 45 minutes from the nearest highway.

    • @NorthTexasDirt
      @NorthTexasDirt Před 4 měsíci

      Wow. Was that second experience in the 80's as well? Because I doubt they were drones if it was.

    • @Destin65
      @Destin65 Před 4 měsíci

      @@NorthTexasDirt yup, all in the 1980s while I was still serving. And yeah, they had drones back then, unmanned aircraft, you name it. Some stuff I probably can't mention still and I left the military in 1990, haha. Hadn't seen much since that time, except when I was living in the Vegas area about 10-15 years ago. I always keep a 10 x 50 pair of binoculars handy so I can spot, nature watch, stargaze with, etc. and I could literally point the binocs in any direction and find something in the sky, one time a pair of F-15s flying in formation probably 20,000 feet. Another time a weather balloon. Another time two airliners that appeared to be doing some kind of testing, one a 747 and another behind it as a 737 probably, much smaller aircraft, they were flying in formation and after a while the smaller one would crisscross through the larger one's contrails and such. I don't know what that was about but managed to get photos of it playing out. lol Probably some kind of turbulence flight testing I'm guessing? But yeah, that was around 2012 time period. People of Vegas probably have no idea the amount of stuff that is in the air over them any given time. And probably worse now with the proliferation of camera drones. LVPD and local military probably have dozens of them in the air along with who knows who else, haha. Oh yeah, look this up, you may have heard about it but mentioning just in case, but last June 2023, a UFO object came down in Las Vegas, and nobody could deny something happened because a police cruiser working a crime scene just happened to be facing the right direction and the police dashcam caught the object coming down. Another person claimed to see the area it landed and a supposed "ten foot tall" creature scale a wall near where it supposedly landed, was showing marks in a dirt lot, etc. It was crazy, look that up and see what you make of it. Oh yeah, within hours they also said unmarked VIP looking vehicles with blacked out windows were in the area too. lol Hoax or not, it was filmed by LVPD.

    So it's my understanding (and I've often been wrong, so if I am please correct me) that the "4WD Lock" on there just forces you to stay in 1st gear and 4WD. I'm looking at a 2017 Compass Limited and it doesn't have the 4WD Lock option. But I can just manually put it in 1st gear using the manual shift option, right? Would it work the same? I'm getting out of my Tahoe for something smaller with AWD or 4WD (I hunt on my farm property, lots of muddy trails) and the Compass (so far) is the best test drive I've had. Also looking at at Limited Renegade and a 2017 ML350.

    • @NorthTexasDirt
      @NorthTexasDirt Před 9 měsíci

      My 2019 has a separate function for 1st gear only 4WD called 4WD Low and then it also has the 4WD Lock which just keeps the all wheel drive system engaged. That is very interesting the 2017 Limited doesn't have the 4WD Lock button. I'm guessing it still operates like an AWD vehicle though. I would try to find one that actually has the 4WD Lock button if you can.
