    Would the grounding be better or worse with a metal case? I don't have a 3D printer, so was thinking of just getting a couple Metal Case Enclosures for Guitar Effect Pedals and using those instead.

    What heat shrink is that? (diameter and ratio). I'm gonna use that to label all my cables without having to desolder 16 of them. I have a pair of Cat boxes, but might look at trying this to make my own. Recently just made a couple of Multicable reels (using Expandable Braided Sleeving). One was a 30m Optical HDMI and Cat6 reel (for PTZ cameras), and the other was a 30m 3 cable Cat6 reel for my XR18, one cable is for the "remote" port, the second is to use a Cat5 USB extender (so I can multitrack record), and the third is to use a Cat6 Audio Snake (so I can receive the Headphones out from the XR18, an Aux out for Livestream feed, a XLR in for a Talkback Mic and finally a feed for PC audio or music.

    Congrats! You got great Allen & Heath gear! A few suggestions... time to get rid of the dinosaur point source 12.2 speakers and move to a column array, such as Turbosound IP3000 I moved away from point source mains over 15 years ago myself! Also, FYI, those little Furman power strips are garbage. There's nothing inside them but a penny capacitor. Open one up yourself and see. A better option, and for a similar price, is the Tripp Lite Isobar. They filter the power in as well as each plug from each other. Just stuff I learned over the years. But again, I have the A&H QU-SB, SQ5 and SQ6 and love 'em!

    I have had a case exactly like that minus the blue latches since the day that model came out 20 years ago now. Just a quick anecdote to tell you how tough those things are and make you feel better about having all your equipment in it. I was coming back from a show in Jacksonville one night and we had just driven 14 hours in a 26 foot truck. I had just gotten back to the shop. Was dog tired, finish the load out and put my stuff in the back of my truck to go home to the apartment. I swore I had put everything down in the bed, but while I was loading my stuff into the vehicle, one of my coworkers came up and was talking to me, and I happened to sit this case on top of my bed toolbox. We told each other, “ see you Monday” and I headed out for the weekend… When I left the parking lot just being a young guy I turned out onto the street and stomped the gas 😂 I never knew the case was gone till I got home and it wasn’t there in the bed of the truck. I was so upset with myself. My whole livelihood is in that box, all my gear that I used to do shows, including my laptop and everything. I went two weeks without the case, and I was in the middle of replacing everything and ordering new stuff when I got a call from a guy that worked for the Illinois central railroad … he said he was following me down the street when I peeled out and he saw it fly off the back of my truck and go flying across the highway 😂. He said he stopped and grabbed it, and tried to chase me for blocks, but I never stopped … he had a train to catch naturally… And he told me he was gone for a couple of weeks but when he got back he open the case and found my business card and he called me and asked me did I want to meet him and pick up the case 🙏 When I got it back, everything was in it just like it had been packed when I got back from the trip. He hadn’t touched a thing other than pulled out one of my business cards that was in the pocket in the lid. He didn’t even mess with the spare cash that I had in there that I use to buy snacks from vending machines. I offered to give him some money for helping me out, really pressed him… He wouldn’t take a dime. Just a really good guy. As for the case, it has some war scars from flying across a 5 Lane Highway at about 40 or 50 miles an hour… But I still have it and use it to this day. There was a broken latch which pelican replaced free of charge no questions asked. When I told them what actually happened… They actually offered to replace the entire case if I would send the other one back. But I told them I liked the scars, and I’d rather keep it. It’s real life. This is probably the best word of mouth advertising they’ll ever get.

      @@arichindustries Yup. For that same reason I invested on my own. The problem of owning is the maitenance.There's always a project. But it allows me to fullfill the events. The problem for having weak equipment is that some people notice and they spread the word and might affect some future shows. Buy some subwoofers and some direct shot rigs speakers.

  • @williamthesoundguybalestri1745

    Sorry but I got to say, you're still living in the 70's! Point source is 70's tech. I personally haven't used a speaker for small to medium gigs that are larger than 3.5" in over 15 years! Point source just goes everywhere - ceiling, floor, etc.. Line Array (or column) speakers deliver sound straight out and 120 degrees wide with only about 15 degrees vertical, so there is less sound bounce. Plus each of my columns have 18 speakers to generate sound at different frequencies. A single 12" has to work too hard to try to reproduce that range of sound. Borrow or rent a pair and try it out and you will NEVER go back to point source again! Just a thought...

    How did you get the sector shafts out? Does the inspection plate have to come off in order to slide it out? And do you have to take both the back and front off in order to get the ball screw nut out?

    • @arichindustries
      @arichindustries Před 4 měsíci

      All I had to do was remove the steering wheel and the upper portion of the steering column to get the orbital valve out. Worst part was getting the dash and all the sheet metal out of the way.

    I use the Stanley version of that kind of wire stripper, used it all over an industrial site I worked for a year, plus every little project I've done since. Only wire it's not good for is really fine stuff, and the super thick stuff, where I'd use a knife instead. I'd check and make sure you've got the tension screw cranked up, the little one on one of the lower jaw blocks.
