Superb, although l've been a blue grass lover since about 1962, l only became aware of John Hartford in recent years, mainly through videos and U Tube. Boy was he talented. As a kid l lived by the River Thames in Deptford S E London and remember my uncle John taking me on a trip on the paddle steamer the Golden Eagle down to South End, the Thames estuary. It boasted the longest pier in the world at one and a quarter miles long. The Eagle had a particular while that we heard as is 43:27
awesome video. i have always wanted to ride a paddle or steam boat down the river to New Orleans....i could take my clawhammer banjo! it's just a bit pricey compared to ocean cruises...i do understand why. maybe some day!
I remember listening to John "Back in the Goodle Days"
Thank you for the memories.
Tears of joy, I remember watching this with my late mom, I had a smile on my face through the whole thing.
Hey that’s a great post . I was on board Gen Jackson in 2017 during my visit to Nashville . It was a memorable trip on Board GJ !! Great music / drama on board with great food . It’s indeed nice to know the original singer of my favourite song , Gentle on my Mind , John Hartford was indeed a River Boat Capt . Nice to traverse through the history of Gen Jackson River Boat !! Cheers
Great fun to hear these two veterans of the river talk with such respect and admiration for each other. I miss those days.
Stupid ti close a ride that is over 50 years old. People have memories of this and removing it is taring out a part of the parks history. I dont care that they are making a new one it isnt the same.
I worked on the General Jackson from 1990 - 1997 as a roving musician with Leroy Troy. What a great time we had playing & riding down the river 6 days a week. John was a a great talent he use stand outside and wave to us every morning. Great memories!
Today is the last day of this ride’s operation. I’ve been riding this ride my whole life and since the time this video was upload it has gone through a few changes, but this is how I always picture the ride. Sad to see it go but excited for the new Fire in the Hole to open next year!
Thank you all for posting this! It is a great documentary of both the River/Riverboats, and John Hartford. I am a native of central Illinois, less than an hour from St. Louis, and I remember the Goldenrod Showboat, and the Paddlewheel cruises from St. Louis. I was always fascinated by them. I learned about John, like many, from, as he said the Glen Campbell and Smothers Brothers TV programs of the late 60s. I became a big fan of John Hartford, and had the opportunity to see him in person many times. When I learned he had become a Riverboat Pilot, and worked the Illinois River on the Julia Belle Swain, I would have loved to ride that trip when he was piloting, but never got that opportunity. He was a one of a kind musician, performer, and individual. Thanks again for this posting.
Thank you so very much for posting this!! John was my Grandfather and I am actually in this a couple of times 😊 I have been looking for this version of this for years and years and I have finally found it because this is one of the best memories I have of the filming of this💙 So to whoever found it and took the time and effort to post it here truly thank you from the very bottom of my heart this means so very much to me I honestly don’t have the words to truly express it so I will just say thank you so very very much and you have brought me a very special memory of my childhood back to me and I hope you know how much this means to me 🙏💙😊
So nice of u Mr Philip to share u r feelings . This whole world is a big joint family and we are all brothers and sisters ! So it’s a nice felling to know how bu feel . I need ube mail ID to send my Gentle on my Mind video . I am a country singer myself based in Cochin India . Cheers
Dear Dustin . Please share u r mail ID . I wish to share my Gentle on my Mind song Video. I bet u would be happy to watch it . Best regards,Capt
I'd so much rather listen to John sing Gentle my Mind than glen campbell!❤
I would love the Flooded Mine to come back to Dollywood, but i want the ORIGINAL. I don't too much care for the interaction with the guns. I guess I'm old fashioned. 😁
Nice, the old one was deleted off CZcams for years, good to see it back.
Its form snoopy come home 1972
The 3 drops is gonna be at 3am to 4am in the morning
That train doesn't killed me and hit myself
Why is that monster roars aginst me that bridge with a t-rex godzllia king kong
What is this song called
In my days as a roadie, I had the pleasure of fishing behind the General Jackson from dock side about 5 am one time while waiting for an early morning stage call in 92'. The crew were loading the supplies for the day, which gave me the opportunity to talk with some of them. I'll never forget that day.
Such beautiful memories with my dad and brother. I miss this place.
I met the love of my life at silver dollar city. 1980. Your always in my heart Michael. Fly high look in on me from time to time.
So the Flooded Mine song is the same as the one in Missouri, nice. Silver Dollar City Missouri is my everything. Still cool to see Silver Dollar City Tennessee
It's one of the greatest jobs ever in my opinion
Yee
I definitely remember this place crazy the times
Good thing it still exists in Branson!
Dolly Parton did a great job and bought the old Silver Dollar City and made it into a better park .
What happened to the coach?? Did it come from East Broad Top like the coach at Tweetsie?
Why did they take it out in the first place ????
Dolly bought the land and together they decided to transform silver dollar city into Dollywood.
@@cloudcraft7153 I know that but they kept it for a few years befor fully making Dollywood , I rember riding the flooded mine and the long black train before hand those were one terrifying and 2 amazing tho
How did you get the tavern song from blazing fury?
Got to go many times growing up.
Did anyone notice the direction of the train and also the skyride. I went to SDC twice and worked at Dollywood for one season. Dolly has done well with the park. However I wish she would add some things that Opryland had.
All of these songs are from Branson mo silver dollar city but some of the rides are from Tennessee
Even though a lot of people hate on this ride, you have to agree the theming is amazing.
My favorite was and still is Blazing Fury
And sadly over the years since this footage was shot this ride has become a victim of our modern snowflake PC culture, most of the gun scenes have been removed and some of the animatronics and sound effects have been modified or left in disrepair leaving the ride a shell of its former self. And now rumors are growing stronger that the ride may meet its demise in another year or two. A lot of history will be lost here and I still don't know how to feel about that. I love SDC but losing this ride would be like ripping out the heart and soul of the park and the history its based on.
I’m not sure if you’ve seen yet, but you might’ve noticed the construction of a giant show building over on Fireman’s Landing. There’s a lot a speculation going around but many have come to the conclusion that Fire in the Hole will be rebuilt over there. Frankly the ride does need it. So while the old one might go away soon, I’m sure the newer one will not disappoint.
I first remember going there as a kid when it was Gold Rush Junction. The in a few years after that it was SIlver Dollar City when we went back on another vacation. I remember the big steam locomotive that pulled the train ride. Stuff they wouldn't let ya do nowdays was the blacksmith let me brand my own souvenir shingle board with the hot iron and the frontiersman guy let me throw tomahawks at the wood targets. It was one of my fave experiences as a kid at any themepark even though it wasn't a huge showy place, it had actual interactiveness with the park actors. I remember my dad or uncle getting in an good-natured argument with the lady who played the prohibitionist leader Carrie Nation in the tavern nearby the Flooded Mine ride, and she played her character very well. lol I also remember my other favorite thing was all the arts and crafts people in little shops all over, that made all sorts of things. The old fashioned candy shop was very good also.
Me too, not many folks remember Gold Rush Junction. I live an hour from there and growing up in grade school every year we went to silver dollar city. I sure miss those days and the flooded mine. I remember the girl and the snake rumor too back then. I remember dipping candles
I've still got the little SDC whiskey jugs I got for my kids back in in 82 or 83
Before it was Dollywood, Goldrush Junction, Silver Dollar City, it was Rebel Railroad. Dollywood has and made it a true thrill ride park.
Don’t forget “gold rush”!
I wonder how much of SDC remains today? Guessing the train is the same. Any other buildings, attractions?
Blazing fury
Went there with my mom and dad in 1984--one of my favorite memories with them.
Cool, this videos 11 years old which is crazy
The Flip I know right! I’ve watched this for the longest time I can remember.
I remember all this ❤️😢
❤💙💜💛
This ain't Silver Dollar City in the Missouri Ozarks.
My gosh! The memories!
So much better before Dolly bought it
Don Martin well if you want to see silver dollar city go to Branson Missouri!
It was rebel railroad when it first opened then gold rush i think followed by silver dollar city it is still a great place to take your whole family
It was, “rebel railroad, gold rush, gold rush junction, silver dollar city and Dollywood”
So many good memories ❤
