This is a short but sweet photo trip back to the Silver Dollar City Days. Many of these photos used are from the SDC TN alumni site on facebook. Check it out!
Worked the Pigeon Forge Silver Dollar City in the summer of '79. Played Stephen for a short time in Smokey Mt Passion Play and coming over and working part time at SDC during the day. Different lifetime...but still think of it from time to time. The wildfires are burning around there now. Hope everyone I knew is safe! H. Davis
Man that brings back great memories. We lived in Knoxville and used to go all the time. Dolly Parton started leasing silver dollar city back in 1984 or 1985. They both are still the same, just Dolly puts a spin of it to make it hers. I go to both Dollywood and Silverdollar city, as well as Dixie Stampede as much as I can.
So the Flooded Mine song is the same as the one in Missouri, nice. Silver Dollar City Missouri is my everything. Still cool to see Silver Dollar City Tennessee
I first remember going there as a kid when it was Gold Rush Junction. The in a few years after that it was SIlver Dollar City when we went back on another vacation. I remember the big steam locomotive that pulled the train ride. Stuff they wouldn't let ya do nowdays was the blacksmith let me brand my own souvenir shingle board with the hot iron and the frontiersman guy let me throw tomahawks at the wood targets. It was one of my fave experiences as a kid at any themepark even though it wasn't a huge showy place, it had actual interactiveness with the park actors. I remember my dad or uncle getting in an good-natured argument with the lady who played the prohibitionist leader Carrie Nation in the tavern nearby the Flooded Mine ride, and she played her character very well. lol I also remember my other favorite thing was all the arts and crafts people in little shops all over, that made all sorts of things. The old fashioned candy shop was very good also.
Me too, not many folks remember Gold Rush Junction. I live an hour from there and growing up in grade school every year we went to silver dollar city. I sure miss those days and the flooded mine. I remember the girl and the snake rumor too back then. I remember dipping candles
I would love the Flooded Mine to come back to Dollywood, but i want the ORIGINAL. I don't too much care for the interaction with the guns. I guess I'm old fashioned. 😁
no, it was on the last drop before going back to the station. they installed new magnetic brakes a few years ago and took the water out. the big splash at the end was what braked the cars.
Did anyone notice the direction of the train and also the skyride. I went to SDC twice and worked at Dollywood for one season. Dolly has done well with the park. However I wish she would add some things that Opryland had.
This is dollywood now. I remeber going to silver dollar city. It was fun but not many rides best where flooded mind and blazing fury.anyone that went remember the train getting robbed by cowboy actors on horse's? Scaredbme to death when they boarded the train with guns and they where loud.
@@cloudcraft7153 I know that but they kept it for a few years befor fully making Dollywood , I rember riding the flooded mine and the long black train before hand those were one terrifying and 2 amazing tho
I only live 25 miles from there. I didnt think they should have changed the name from Silver Dollar City to Dollywood. It became a big business hubub when they did that. Now it is just corporate greed and prices through the roof to go there and enjoy it. My sister worked at Dollywood in 1989 and 1990 back before it was over developed. I havent been there since September 16,1995 and probably wont ever go back.
Who cares? 30 years ago the price was 16.95. Now it is @60 dollars to get in, BUT you get so much more. And besides, prices constantly rise, FOR EVERYTHING! Remember that can of pet milk for 25 cents, NOW cost 1.50+!!!! Or the bread that you could get 3 loaves for a dollar, now 2.50+ a loaf!!
I met the love of my life at silver dollar city. 1980. Your always in my heart Michael. Fly high look in on me from time to time.

Do you happen to have any old photos from your time there?
Went there with my mom and dad in 1984--one of my favorite memories with them.
I was there back in 1982. I just went to Dollywood yesterday....Dollywood was okay but I think I liked it better as SDC!
Such beautiful memories with my dad and brother. I miss this place.
Good thing it still exists in Branson!
My gosh! The memories!

Great memories--thanks for posting
So many good memories ❤

I wish they still had that little show
I practically grew up here! It was never as good when it became Dollywood!
Agree SDC was the best!!!
I've still got the little SDC whiskey jugs I got for my kids back in in 82 or 83
I definitely remember this place crazy the times
I miss the Flooded Mine. I wish Dollywood would make another dark ride. Blazing Fury is great, but I want a true dark ride.
Sorry for being late! But the flooded mine still survives at the oringinal silver dollar city!

i grew up with Branson SDC, but wow, SDC Tenn. got the BIG train. awesome.
All of these songs are from Branson mo silver dollar city but some of the rides are from Tennessee
I remember all this ❤️😢
Got to go many times growing up.

Think about this. Now that it's 2016, all of these photos are over 30 years old.
My favorite was and still is Blazing Fury
It's one of the greatest jobs ever in my opinion
Dolly Parton did a great job and bought the old Silver Dollar City and made it into a better park .

The flooded mine them song...where did u obtain that? I would love to because it was my favorite ride growing up.
It still exists at silver dollar city Branson, the oringinal!
Mine too man I wish they would have never taken it out
Yee
Before it was Dollywood, Goldrush Junction, Silver Dollar City, it was Rebel Railroad. Dollywood has and made it a true thrill ride park.
Don’t forget “gold rush”!
It was rebel railroad when it first opened then gold rush i think followed by silver dollar city it is still a great place to take your whole family
It was, “rebel railroad, gold rush, gold rush junction, silver dollar city and Dollywood”
was the big splash on the blazing fury outside?
How did you get the tavern song from blazing fury?
Parks grow and change.Ask people who went to Cedar Point in the olden days,
Wow, I was only aware of the one in Branson, Mo. Is this one still open??
it's now called Dollywood
I wonder how much of SDC remains today? Guessing the train is the same. Any other buildings, attractions?
Blazing fury
@emmabugsmama ya...its now known as dollywood...LOL
@Billyfn1218 thanks!
is that Dollywood #70 at 1:22
Yes, i think so, if its not in operation at the park, then its at the Dollywood info center close to patriot park.
So much better before Dolly bought it
Don Martin well if you want to see silver dollar city go to Branson Missouri!
Why did they take it out in the first place ????
Dolly bought the land and together they decided to transform silver dollar city into Dollywood.
@@cloudcraft7153 I know that but they kept it for a few years befor fully making Dollywood , I rember riding the flooded mine and the long black train before hand those were one terrifying and 2 amazing tho
This ain't Silver Dollar City in the Missouri Ozarks.

Definitely better as SDC...too corporate now.
