Trying To Make My ‘Customshop’ Stratocaster
Hi folks - Join me on my second attempt to make myself a 'customshop' Stratocaster in a spec I like, this time with a new professionally made nitro body from Axecaster. But.... after not being so much into Strats lately will this win me back round? Let me know what you think!

    I just got a Strat w' Fat 50s and they're a bit sharp in some spots, so I'm wondering how the Fat 60s sound compared to the 57 / 62 you did compare in previous vids...

      @Highland_Paddy Před dnem

      I have the Vintera 60s ones that sound nice and mellow / moody a bit, but they also play low compared to pretty much every other guitar is louder for some reason.

    • @Highland_Paddy
      @Highland_Paddy Před dnem

      Yeah, when I first got a semi-hollow I thought I was done with Strats pretty much, too, except that was only a couple cheap Squier Affinity and Standard ones, so of course barely REAL Strats, and I knew I would never sell the Standard one after I felt guilty selling the Affinity one to buy it just because it had a more 60s look than a 50s look and all that. Well, That thought all lasted probably a few months before I got the itch to acquire and bought the Telecaster after the Epiphone and maybe ended up using that one more overall. But I still can't go 100% Telecaster and don't feel as inclined to collect so many for looks or different pickups and all that.

    • @Paul-D
      @Paul-D Před dnem

      i think people would prefer the sharper feel of the RG or the slimmer more contoured feel of the S. Dont think theres an objective difference in the ergonomics just whatever you prefer.

    In my travels I will always make time to stop at guitar stores, pawn shops and the rare real camera shop. I am old, retired and just like to enjoy the trip. Usually stay on State and Federal US highways and avoid the interstates. Best find was a Martin 000M rescued from a sunny shop window at a pawn shop in Branson, MO with loose binding for a great price. Whatever you choose to play, buy for your future. My first guitar was a crappy Framus Texan 12 string. My second one a 1971 Gibson J50 new (a J45 with plain spruce top) which I still play today and will go to a nephew when I go. If you are spending top dollar/pound/yen always think about whether it is worth your money long term. If it is, buy the best you can get and plan to keep it. Gradually you can build a great collection you love to play. One you can pass on to your children with real value both financially and musically. Don't waste your time on crap if you can buy lifetime quality. No matter what smoke and mirrors are displayed by YT guitar company shills, an HB will never be a Gibson. Neither will an Epiphone, no matter how gussied up and 'Signature"d. All those products have a place, but many are beginner level. I have never seen a 'budget' Rolls Royce, have you? I rarely hear people regret buying quality.

    Nothing like an entire row of red 335s hanging together... any guitars of the same colour for that matter, but the 335s are absolutely stunning (especially the Trini), imho. And happy belated birthday. I've spent some with friends and wished I'd spent the day alone afterwards 🎂😅

    At least in this video, the Lollars are too harsh and squaky for me. I'll stick with the 8.5-lb 2021 cherry sunburst Gibson Standard 50s I have, which came to me with Seymour Duncan '59 neck and SD Custom Custom bridge - the flame top is gorgeous. I haven't played many Gibsons but the one I got is excellent in terms of quality and workmanship. I've been playing nearly 50 years and have recommended Eastman to others.

      Its not lollars in this vid. Its the stock seymour duncan 59s the normal sb59 come with

    I saw somewhere that the neck is finished in poly instead of nitro.. Can that be correct? The neck of the newer Vitera Road Worn series is said to be finished in nitro.. To me the relicking of that neck looks a bit nicer, more subtle, but unfortunately it comes with a Pau Ferro fingerboard..

    • @Paul-D
      @Paul-D Před 11 dny

      I Think it was just a worn thin satin finish - The newest Vintera II has finally gone back to rosewood - so thats good. Much more money then these used to be of course, but still.

    • @Paul-D
      @Paul-D Před 11 dny

      Also worth bearing in mind - 90% of most modern 'Nitro' finishes - especially from fender - do have a poly undercoat anyways

    • @briersben
      @briersben Před 11 dny

      @@Paul-DI know about the poly undercoat.. I was more referring to the feel I guess.. I would prefer it was thin sanded down nitro.. I have the opportunity to pick up the exact same 2015 Olympic White Road worn strat, for the price of 950 euros. Seriously thinking about it.. What is your take on this? Should I just go for it? Still good value today?

    • @Paul-D
      @Paul-D Před 11 dny

      In fairness whenever I see them sell, it's always for around £900 today. - And that has steadily gone up and up over the years since they did them.... So yeh it's totally worth it in my opinion. I still think it's the best Strat Mexico ever did. A new Vintera II which isn't roadworn but is 'nitro' and rosewood (narrow tall frets though) is around £999 RRP. I would take this even at £900 EVERY day of the week and be very pleased about it.

    • @briersben
      @briersben Před 11 dny

      @@Paul-D Thanks, exactly what I wanted to hear! The Vintera II line does not offer any nitro finished guitars, as far as I know..
