The height limit should be even lower, 8 stories. Humans aren't meant to interact with structures 1000 times their own height. It is dehumanizing/atomizing.
I have a lifelong intense dislike of the cement stuff, having grown up in Boston where the local Victorian library was needlessly demolished and replaced with a cement box. Also, there is the infamous, eternal mistake, Boston City Hall. However, I having been living in Montreal unexpectedly for the past 6 weeks due to an ill family member, and to my great surprise, have developed a crush on the giant, uber-Brutalist Rockhill complex in "my" neighborhood of Cotes des Neiges. Mind you, one shudders to think of the probably several dozen absolutely lovely 1930s small apartment buildings that must have been demolished to wake way for the behemoth. But still. It sits on that hill over there and I sorta somehow like it.
Careful about saying that you would be better off in America. Not to diminish the problem of a sudden change in immigration in Canada, large cities here in the US have a few of the same problems. The difference is that immigration in Canada is managed but it's a fire hose, emergency of illegal immigrants through the Mexican border. I'm sure you've seen the homeless sleeping in tents on the streets in San Francisco or New York city. Family care physicians are in short supply and the situation is getting worse. On the other hand, seeing a specialist physician is usually not a problem. Going to an emergency department means that depending on what takes you there, it'll be hours before you see a doctor. Just so you know we have a lot of doctors and nurses trained in Canada working here. They're here because the pay is higher.
32 years, 32 teams, you know what that means. That's right, the oilers are due to win that 1 statistical Cup this year. But I feel the frustration as a habs fan. My hockey fandom also took a massive hit when I finally figured out that pro sports is a replacement for war. I would much rather be able to defend what I believe in than cheer for nitwits on skates, lol.
Three answers. Yes! 100% Without a shadow of a doubt. In the NHL it's more about Gary Bettman & franchises like The Leafs & The Habs not wanting any NHL expansion teams in Canada especially in the provinces of Ontario & Quebec Keeping all that NHL cash to themselves. Go Oilers! ❤🇨🇦🏒
Ttc map should have been better designed, as a local, its easy for me to navigate but i can imagine as a visitor to the city switching from different agencies of bus could be so confusing and if you have to use go transit or up express too, they wont be obvious on the ttc map or even a line on there, i think if all the agencies could merge and working together they could make it better tbh. Like for someone wanna use all the different agencies to get around the gta for the first time, having ttc, go transit and up express lines on the same map would help sm. I found this reddit user, dont think i can link it here but you can search it up, they merge all the lines from agencies together making it way more understandable and easy to navigate
It’s because players get a better deal in the US. Same as almost every industry. Canada is and always has been behind economically to the US
The problem with 100 million Canadians by 2100 (which is a completely arbitrary number) is that it can only be done through immigration. Mass immigration, especially considering the fact that the natural birth rate among native-born Canadians is flat. Most of the country’s population growth now, in fact nearly 100%, is through immigration. They’re just opening the flood gates to everyone and it is having a clearly depressing effect on living standards, productivity, etc. Don’t build a society where Canadians feel comfortable having more children, just import a lot of foreigners into the country who don’t, and likely won’t, have much of an allegiance to Canada. And this is all to make Canada a “world power?” Why?!? Why is that necessary in the first place? What’s the point if it demolishes demographics, increases political and social instability and decreases living standards. Not to mention it would eventually force Quebec out of confederation. It’s ridiculous. This is going to fundamentally change the country, and I don’t think for the best. Also, the US population isn’t declining at all, it is just showing slower growth.

The parts of this video about Bluesky didn’t age well, especially considering it was already known in August *2023* that Jack Dorsey had no involvement in the day-to-day operations at Bluesky. From the beginning, Bluesky has been run by Jay Graber, one of the very few women of power in the tech industry. But even in 2024, it’s apparently still a thing to attribute to extremely mediocre men such as Jack Dorsey the work of vastly more talented women such as Jay Graber.
Well, as wondrous as Jay Graber may be she's still out there re-inventing the perfectly acceptable WC3 wheel that Activitypub has had available since 2016. Imagine if all that effort had been put into the Fediverse....
@@granttlcuk It’s irrelevant and uninteresting. Irrelevant, because it has literally nothing to do with the point I’m making about who led Bluesky. Uninteresting, because AT Protocol exists. Period. Discussing decisions made years ago, in a completely different world, is uninteresting.
Doug Saunders is a major spokesman of the neoliberal globalist model of population growth through immigration. He hasnt lived in Canada for decades, so it's no surprise that he supports this artificially induced population growth even in the face of declining living standards.
The only disagrement is that you re never sure were you will be able to return it
No issue - Montreal will win in 25/26.
Before you proffer 'proportional representation' as a panacea to 'improve' our politics, please take a look at the disfunctional governments in Israel and Germany. That's what you get with proportional representation!

I disagree completely , nice idea, but other cultures come in and make parallel societies , they start taking advantage of our high-trust systems. Even awesome new immigrants can rack up 3 to 4 credit cards and then just ignore the bills. South Asian culture is incompatible with Canadian business culture. Many very shady business practices, any business person knows now not to go into business with most Indians. As the South Asian population grows, and Canada goes more to shit, more crime will result. Car thefts, mass racketeering, lying and cheating on paperwork, and even mob style protection rackets. No restaurateur ever goes into business with Indians. They lie and embezzle and just deny it. Usually the business will fail within months. Unequal values, so the other partner gets completely fucked. There is no need for more immigration. We just need to make Canada cheaper and more awesome, then our population will reproduce. Right now, they won't because they can't afford it.
Ban abortion......
So you really think that players that play for Canadian teams are going to waste their careers with no chance of winning the cup.. I hardly doubt it.
If Canada wants more people its going to have to build more housing. Fast. Also, if it would guarantee a 3 week winter vacation in a country of your choosing to the south, it'd have no problem getting those 20 million extra people! (Man, what a great idea!).
background music is distracting, possibly a good story here, but difficult to hear.
I love Montreal and brutalist architecture
Funny enough, i ordered my shikibuton from futon d'or in Montreal.
So what about cultural integration? Is it not an issue?
I like this dude's energy about internet freedom. Subscribed.
You’d be surprised at how many people can’t read and don’t know which car to board. Every carriage is not staffed btw.

Fun fact. Some times there’s multiple Eruvs in the same place because not every community agrees on how or where they should go. So if you ask someone “where’s the eruv boundary” the answer may depend on which viewpoint or community they take part in!
Maybe our country and provinces would be a lot better state if those local representative actually lived in our local community Most local representative you vote for don’t even live in your community they just on a cottage or something which allows them to run in different area for their party It doesn’t matter that to party members are from Toronto. It only matters that one of them is allegedly supporting the farmers of Ontario. Even though they never ask them what they want they never campaign for the farmers, and they never do anything for those small, local communities that voted them in Because if you’re voting someone in on the provincial level for your local government, they should help your local area not just Toronto
One thing that really bothers me about the Canadian political system. You don’t have to live in your local area to run for Premier. Of your area You can live in Toronto and run for Premier in Newmarket as long as you have a property in Newmarket but you primary residence is in Toronto The main reason why Toronto seems to be the centre of the world, where every politician only focus on tronto, because that’s where they live, even if they were elected by a different district And the only reason they got to run in that election is because they own a cottage or some thing in that area If a city rich person on the cottage in country Township they can run for that local townships political office, use their city connections to create convincing ads and lie to the people that saying that they’re there for the people but in reality they’re only there for Toronto. They’re not gonna help the farmers of Ontario they’re going to help the city folk. And that’s the biggest problem I’ve been seeing with our government is that people from the cities come to small areas to get it a seat for their party but they do not represent those small areas because they only focus on Toronto issues because that’s where they live
You mean growth pays for Rich buddy bribes Because all this growth but there’s no growth for the people There’s all these houses, allegedly being built, but most of them sit empty for years because nobody can afford it Lots of housing developments, go bankrupt because they can’t find people to buy the business and they just build infrastructure of roads and sewer system
I don’t want a drug dealer running my province anymore Because that’s essentially what Doug Ford is because his brother admitted buying drugs from his brother I remember seeing a news interview where Rob Ford admitted to doing drugs, and when he was asked who he bought the drugs from, he said his brother

There are 4 modes on a 1/Yellow/Yonge/University Line: 1. You are on the left half of the U heading up. This is called "Line 1 towards Vaughan" (Northbound) 2. You are on the left half of the U heading down. This is called "Line 1 towards Finch via Union" (Southbound) 3. You are on the right half heading up. This is called "Line 1 towards Finch" (Northbound) 4. You are on the right half heading down. This is called "Line 1 towards Vaughan via Union". (Southbound) Thing is, if you are in situation 2, and you stay there past union station, you find yourself in situation 3. Similarly, if you are in situation 4, and you stay on the train for long enough, you transition into situation 1. You become northbound after being southbound for long enough because of the U bend. There are 2 northbounds and 2 southbounds, and the 2 northbounds are going in opposite directions, and the 2 southbounds are going in opposite directions. IMO "Northbound", "Southbound" should not be used at all. There should only be 2 situations: 1. Vaughan to Union to Finch. 2. Finch to Union to Vaughan.
And if "Vaughan Metropolitan Center" could just be called "Vaughan Center" then all would be happy
If you’ve ever taken a high speed train in Spain, a regional in the Netherlands or Switzerland, and a metro in London or Berlin then you might not want to live in Canada
Paige for Prime Minister of 🇨🇦!
FINALLY!!! Thank you!!! And f**k you via rail!
The entire city is like that, a wayfinding nightmare. and if you drive, parking a car is also a challenge trying to figure out the signage system, which usually result in getting a ticket. The sad part is that all these urban issues are a testament of its aloof population
This is one of the whiniest Euro-centric bitchfests I've ever heard.
Why couldn't the government buy the CN sub division from Toronto to Montreal and build a new freight line for CN on the proposed HFR line.
I want to be a Canadian citizen!
Have you seen developer's laptops? Some plaster their laptops full with conference stickers, with language stickers, it is a personality. I see a line.
Dawg the music shift to 8-bit only.... who does the music on these. That's fuckin' hard
ill be leaving my pharmacy job where i supervise assistants and manage inventory after 14 years in the industry. they had to pull me back from another city 2 years ago after i quit, because everyone at that store had quit already. i hope you all wait hours in line just to find your prescription isn't ready or the medication isn't in stock or isn't available. after 14 years in the business i went from $17/hr to $25/hr. can barely afford to support myself and family in one of the cheapest cities in the country, all while taking abuse from customers and receiving almost no support from our corporate overlords. good luck canada. good luck boomers.
nowadays Cheese Pizza has become Cheese Pizza with Kimchi and Chicken
I lived in a co-op with someone and when I read the articles of incorporation and all that explained how the unit was not owned by the occupant, but that they merely owned shares of stock in the co-op, I felt uneasy. I’m in America, so these housing arrangements exist here as well, but to me, it stunk of communism and seemed very un American. I wish that flipping houses wasn’t so popular, because I think it only makes sense to buy a house to live in long-term, have a sense of continuity and community.
Their new passport system actually is better now. I got my passport within a week of getting it. They recently implemented their new system just 2 weeks ago and somehow was the first ones to try it.
I had the same experience, although I've stuck with Duolingo for now. I find as long as I ignore the app's attempts to push me to drag my heels in order to maximize XP and rankings. Pushung myself to test out of a unit whenever I can helps.
Down with maplewashing. Unless the US changes course, being "better than the US" at something is almost a participation trophy.
