    Yes there are 2 ways up. The way you went up is the easier of the two. As you went up you passed a couple of fancy gate posts. This is where the other route comes out. The other route is steeper and plenty of hairpins. It is accessed from the back of Luc Major. N.B. I would recommend not going down it on a normal bike. It is steep in parts and sometimes has loose stones on it. If you go through the gate posts you will see a hermitage but I have never stopped and looked at it. Another monastery climb is "Santuario de Monti-Sion", near Porreres, so not much further than Randa. (no cafe though.) Muchas gracias for the video. Brings back good memories.

      Palma was it's usual, absolutely ram packed. That's why we only ever visit it by bike or bus 😃 Hey, don't knock a market on a bike ride 😉 There are always food trucks to fuel up and less 'death stares' if you're pushing a bike through it rather than cycling a bike through it 🤣 I ended up with severe Lymphoedema after cancer treatment. Extremes of heat or cold bother it and especially so with heat. It's the same with fibromyalgia but the cold is soooooo bad with fibro. I'm a 'not too hot and not too cold' kinda gal......like Goldilocks 🤣🤣 I can't push myself too hard, or I'll end up suffering for it. We had a fun day with cycling and gorgeous weather. Mid September through to late May is off peak for regular tourists but very much 'on peak' for cycling tourists 👍 It was a relaxing change to be a regular tourist. Much needed too after a stressful few months and with more surgery for me on the horizon. ⛱️

      @stevedouglas3975 Před měsícem

      Yes I was lucky as at speed downhill. I subsequently found it was a dodgy wheel on rental bike as I had 3 punctures in 3 days(!). After 3rd one I was fed up and shop changed wheel and all good although it was odd as nothing obvious that I could see neither could shop. Anyway, fortunately I didn't come off. One thing that came out of it though is having only 1 spare tube with a rental bike not sufficient so from now on when I go abroad I will take some ready patches with me as back up as if I'd had another puncture same day I'd have been stuck.

      Blimey...you must have had someone smiling down on you from on high that day 😇. As for patches...they're a good idea, I try to carry a packet in my tool bottle. I'm fortunate in that I haven't a puncture on a rental bike. I think they tend to put hard wearing 'puncture resistant' tyres on rental bikes which I bet are a bugger to get off 🙄

    Living the dream! Can't really believe it's less than 3 weeks ago I was there...June has been pathetic and here in the Scottish Highlands our heating is on... we booked to go to Applecross for Thursday-Monday and at sea level it's usually warmer, but to add insult to injury the weather is forecast worse over there and 4-5C cooler than where we are in the mountains....!! Cool! I was there in April. Really good hotel and we thought the food was best we'd ever had from a hotel. Only issue I found was gym pretty rubbish, the rack was too wide for the bar so had to remove bar to put weights on. A minor niggle as I cycled for 5 days out of 7 anyway so only used gym once. Quick tip, supermarket just across the road is cash only. I hired my bike from Whynotcycling which is about 2 miles away and found them very good. I stored bike in the luggage room and wasn't an issue at all. I found cycling in area was good, I headed up to Puigpuyant and Banyulafar, Galilea etc and typical good Mallorcan roads and pretty quiet. Better in a way than up north as far less cyclists. One point, the hotel is actually called the Fergus Palmanova. The Fergus Tobago is the one down the road near the Whynotcycling shop.

As such...I would try and increase your fitness as much as possible but find a local hill which has an gradient of 6-8 percent and ride it...for 60 mins.

    We've done quite a few 'Lost Lanes' rides in the South West and mostly enjoyed them. Overall I think it's a fantastic book. We have found the directions (via GPX) very accurate, but the elevation is usually under reported.

      @@LivandTrekGoCycling No, we don’t film rides. We’ve done the ride out of Oakhampton quite a few times. A lovely ride. My partner has ridden ‘The Thrill Of The Chase’ multiple times too (a little tough for me). We did one out of Exeter and one out of Bradford On Avon and both were a little spoilt by more traffic than we enjoy. Next week we’re doing his Penzance ride - and Oakhampton again on our way home.

    I'd just like to add that solo riding in busier destinations like this is awkward on hill pacing- that "do I pass them? What if they catch me up and pass me again? are they local- do they know better than to go faster here?" etc stuff gets in your head and it makes it hard to get into what would be your own rhythm...On Sunday- 4 Spaniards passed me going down Coll de Creueta(me -solo- more concerned with safety)...hit the flatter section and I caught them, easily in my zone, and wanted to pass them... But from doing Cap Formentor (on virtual RGT!!) I knew the next hills/tunnel were approaching.. so I held off... turns out they couldn't drop me on the climbs and I was in a slightly too comfortable zone but on unknown roads I just stayed behind them!! Then yesterday the climb out of Caimari is steeper, flattens, and steepens to Coll de Sa Batalla and had 3 people gunning it past me on the lower stages who had peaked by the end of the easier section.... I'd built into that (knowing it from descending the day before) lower part easy and wound it up on the flatter stage with some left in the tank to really push it up the last hairpins after the parking viewpoint and passed all 3 of them plus 2 others!!!! Tomorrow on SC I'm just going to do my own thing - watched Ed Laveracks 24 minute video (should have put it on x0.25 or x0.5 to make it realistic lol !!!) which has really helped give me an insight into profile changes at what elevation as I'll just have HR, Cadence and elevation on screen!!!

As for the climb out, I'm really pleased with how it went and literally stunned to do it in 50m30s.... I'm nearly 56, 84(i think, not lost any in the last week lol!)kg and just 1m70cm (think maybe Andre Greipels legs grafted to Jocky Wilsons torso lol) so pretty pleased, the shadows helped, as did the profile with some shallower gradients to help and the occasional light breeze, and my altitude calculations were spot on so I knew exactly when the tough bit was coming....after the 270 degree turn I just tried to hold the high cadence to the summit..... I'm here for the first time this week- Saturday did a leg stretcher from Pollensa to Alcudia and up to La Victoria, Sunday did Cap formentor and took on the extra 150m or so climb from the Coll de Creueta, Monday did Coll de Femenia , down Sa Batalla and up to the top of Santa Magdalena, Tuesday did up Sa Batalla and down Femenia, today had a rest and tomorrow(having done Femenia) I booked the shuttle to the Repsol garage to do Sa Calobra.... It shaves off 30km and 700m and depending how things go I may have the time(bike due back 5pm) and legs to get up to Puig Major which still makes the day 1500m not 2000m just doing Pollensa to SC and back via Femenia... Hopefully I can go back via Sa Batalla again as it's more scenic too.... Hardest bit was staying off the bike today, it's tough sometimes to recognise creeping fatigue and ease up when on holiday you just want to go and do stuff everyday....did a 10km walk on the flat Pollensa promenade instead!!

      Hi, thanks for commenting. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. We go to some effort to try and make them entertaining and fun. This ride certainly was an adventure. In other videos you may have noticed that I post text on the video letting the viewer know I've added a link to the route in the video description. In this 'Lost Lanes' series I deliberately haven't done that. That's because the book author only makes available the gpx file for people who've bought his book. It's how he makes his living. So, in support of the author I decided I wouldn't give out the gpx file..Id encourage interested riders to go out and buy his book...but then I relalised that savvy people would easily be able to overcome this by simply finding my ride on Strava and downloading the ride link from there (hint) 🚴👍. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did. 😉

One thing that occurred watching video was the tree, hopefully no idiots vandalise it like what happened to the one in the Sycamore Gap. Sad indictment of our times it made me think of that.
