      Definitely subjective. I've never touched one of the Getrag boxes and the lack of information and parts for the ZF transmission is frustrating. Something I'm on a mission to do something about. But from what I've seen online the Getrag transmissions seem to have so many issues, whilst the ZF box seems to have little of these and is pretty simple to fix.

    The pencil steering rack is every bit as clever as the Porsche engineering. Complaints against German manufacturers arises not so much from the engineering but reliability/quality of components, complexity, failure by service department of the brands unable to fix faults, snobbish attitudes, reluctance to help the customer and excessive repair bills. These high repair/maintenance costs make stupid owners take ridiculous short cuts which ends up ruining the car, the makers reputation and the experience for the next owner. Everything is so profit driven (pun not intended) it is sickening.

    Hi jeff ! Very useful information in there ! If I am not mistaken you do not discussed why you did not replace the PDK pan/filter. It's by far the most expensive bit so I am very much inerested in your comment about this choice. Thanks in advance !

    • @jeffrichardsoncardiy
      @jeffrichardsoncardiy Před 6 dny

      The filter is a very coarse fibrous type that is designed to last for the transmission lifetime and will only catch really large bits. It's the same filter type that is used on a standard auto. I used to change them regularly but when cutting them open they were always empty. The wear particles in the clutch section will be either ferrous and caught by the magnets in the pan, or they are from the friction disks. These will continue to circulate in the fluid and not be caught by the filter. I have recently revived an old E36 BMW with 360,000 km on the clock. I did a full transmission service including the filter. The oil was like grey soup with none of the material in this being caught by the filter, and the magnet in the pan was thick with ferrous sludge. I cut open the filter to see what was inside. I counted 6 tiny pieces of metal in the filter in total, so it was basically empty. Don't know if it was the original filter, but it had certainly been in there for a long time. For me changing the fluid regularly is really important for a whole raft of reasons, but the filter is in my opinion a waste of time.

    • @jeffrichardsoncardiy

      Unfortunately not. This definitely needs to go to the dealership and have all the keys and other control units like the DME, rear BCM coded so they talk to each other. The front BCM is the heart of the anti theft system so it's made to be very difficult to just copy and paste. I'm not even sure if an old control unit can be recoded by the dealership rather than a brand new one. I'd be very interested to know if it can be done.

      I'd be surprised if it's anything to do with the valve body if there are no codes. If the pressures aren't correct going to the clutches, be that a valve body or solenoid issue, then codes should appear. What exactly are the symptoms? Is it just happening when crawling at idle prior when the clutch is deliberately being slipped or at other times. How many km on the car, and where is it mainly driven? In town? Lots of starting going up hills? It sounds to me much more like a clutch beginning to wear out, but need some more detail.

      @@jeffrichardsoncardiy THANKS! Not sure how I missed that one. Mine has clearly never been off. It's crazy stiff, as is every other part. ☹️ Your videos are fantastic. Thanks again.

    Complicated.

    That simplicity is negated because we are going to take it to the dealership anyway. So it’s still going to cost big dollars.

    Are we able to use a CarDAQ-Plus-3 with this system? I got a 216 porsche

      No idea, but unless the CarDAQ sends the equivalent digital to your computer it won't work.

    Hi Jeff. Thanks for this, really helpful. Just a question, why do you use copper paste instead of ceramic paste between the hub and the disc, and the disc and wheel? Could you not use ceramic paste for the whole job? Thanks

    • @jeffrichardsoncardiy
      @jeffrichardsoncardiy Před 11 dny

      I can't see why you couldn't. In this instance I'm just ensuring the parts don't seize to each other with corrosion over time, and I've always found the copper anti seize works well for this. Maybe if tracking and these were getting super hot then the ceramic paste might be a better choice.

      @@jeffrichardsoncardiy Great thank you. I ended up using copper in the end as I also figured it was more for anti-seize than for lubrication. Thanks!

    hello jeff, thank you very much for the great video, which can also be used on the 982. Unfortunately I don't quite understand in the video whether the screws should be tightened with 15 or 50 NM

    So to get this straight! The Germans say: "Doppelkupplungsgetriebe", whilst the Anglosaxons say: "Doubleclutchtransmission. The Germans say: "Kammerstängelrepetierbüchse", whilst the British say: "Boltactionrifle". The Germans say: " Vorderschaftrepetierer", whilst the Yanks say: "Pumpaction". "Leveraction" is "Vorderschaftrepetierer". Is it possible, I'm asking, that the overengineering already starts with the language?
